You can also add ginger,bell pepper and lemongrass. I’ve stayed away from boiling and started steaming them instead, but first massaging the greens with EVOO… they come out very tender

I suggest washing greens in a big tub with plenty of water, or just a few leaves at a time in a sink full of water. By having a large volume of water, the dirt and girt will settle to the bottom. Sometimes just scrubbing and rinsing can miss dirt and sand in the crevices. Deep large volume of water is key.

Camirra, i’m ole now and have said idk how to cook collards. No wonder ppl kept looking at me like I was crazy! My mom just said “you just cook ‘em”. I never saw her from the beginning so I avoided cooking them. You made it so simple that I can do this too! And Amazon has a dish soap that is plant based with a plant base fragrance that would be great to those hesitant to use other soaps. It comes in a gallon container. Thanx again.

Hey Camirra 🤗 Those greens can be filthy coming from the store too! Actually they’re worse. I take a veggie brush to mine. Cooking greens is a process for me. I use my crockpot for smoked turkey to create a tasty pot liquor for the greens. Gotta have about 2 baseball size onions…one cooks with the smoked turkey. The other goes in when the greens go in the next day.

Just because the salt is dissolved doesn't mean it's not present & because it's not felt on human skin doesn't mean it's not abrasive. The point of salt is two fold. It causes any insects to "drown" because excess water is forced into the body, they & loosen their grip off of the leaves. The salt also forces any impurities out of the leaves. SOAP I'M NOT EATING. But to each her own.
@CamirrasKitchenАй бұрын
you dont eat the soap. it honestly no differnt as how ppl can use a veggies wash to clean apples or fruit. but everyone can clean their veggies the way they want. at the end of the say it going to get clean

Hey cousin! Those look good. I just rip my greens up rather than cut. That’s just the country way I was taught but it also helps tenderize the greens bruising them a little bit, especially when you’re making a thanksgiving sized pot. Any tips for keeping pests away from and eating your greens?
