Converting hours into dollars is really clever. We have a lot easier time comprehending currency as value over time as value.

Useful video, but the real take away is just how much the health related problems cost. And those are only the treatable conditions. There is no pricetag on living past ~120yrs or regaining certain organs (brain tissue). One caveat - money is not the only currency and therefor expressing everything in it can also become a problem. Cleaning your house is actually very terapeutic and often allows for completely new way of reflecting on your belongings and memories. Since health expressed in money gives such high numbers one can lose out on things that could be called joie de vivre, but are hard to evaluate monetarily (how much would you pay to see a breathtaking sunrise/sunset?).
@YakubBlackmann2 ай бұрын
I would pay not to see sunrise. I would gladly sleep at this time of the day.

Assigning negative value to activities is an interesting idea. Will have to think about how to assign value for myself. I would think that activities that decrease future mood, motivation, ability to focus, or otherwise negatively impact health are more like $0 value plus a negative multiplier or drag on future hours. Definitely simpler to assign a negative figure though.

It took me WAY too long to figure out that McDonald's breakfasts were making me crash hard within 30 minutes. I never eat fast food, but just started school again and have been in a rush most days and got into the habit of getting the free or $1 breakfast sandwiches on my way to school. I stopped eating them for a couple weeks, then randomly got lunch there (of course their food is addictive because I hadn't "Craved" mcD's in ages) and once again, crashed within 30 minutes. As in, I couldn't keep my eyes open. I'm not the napping type (even as a child I would just lie awake on my mat and get in trouble for "playing" and "distracting" other kids who were trying to sleep lol) so the impact it had on me is pretty insane. It honestly knocks me out better than a Xanny, (which I only take when flying)...

I was about to watch this vid coming from the 'mindset shift to cure procrastination' video and I don't know if it's just because I watched it and it's fresh on the mind or because its what I needed to hear. I started watching this and a few seconds in got a sense of... apathy, clicked off and started browsing youtube. It was an automatic doing. I instantly realised and clicked back on this vid to continue, and that's when I really realised it wasn't out of the usual sense of existential dread that makes me try to stop wasting my time. That video effectively ingrained virtuous idealism in me today, specifically towards myself, and I in the future.

I don't know, assigning a money value to an activity is rather arbitrary, isn't it? I could value playing bejeweled at $5000 if I wanted to. I must have missed it, but I don't see how placing a price on an activity leads to you actually making money.

It’s just very hard to take your content seriously when you make such huge blunders in your area of expertise. It raises questions about how trustworthy and valuable your advice is.
