I'm back today with something a little bit different. I thought since it was the start of a new year, a few of you might be thinking about starting a new diary and it would be a good time to share with you my Bullet Journal (BUJO). I have adapted the basic Bujo principle to suit my sewing hobby and in this video I talk through my sewing planning pages as well as a small section on my core style and colour palette.
At the end of the video I also share my meal planning system. Its very simple but works really well for me.
A few links I mention:

I know this video was done years ago but I just came upon it and wanted to let you know I too have a love of notebooks and stationary and keeping notes, and to do lists.I have failed to have one journal for just sewing and its causing me to neglect some of my projects because of the excitement of a new project, lol. I love watching your videos. You are so organized, productive and your makes are beautiful. 🙂

I enjoyed how you took several ideas and combined them into your own method. That is what is so wonderful about bullet journals I think. (said by the girl who is not using a bullet journal girl) It is just so nice no matter what you use to have a place for your thoughts and plans. My meal planning is for the month and all 3 meals. I do mine outside my planner so that I can post it on the fridge so the family knows what we are having. If I am running behind they can begin preparing the meal. I have a list of family favorite meals that I use when filling out our meal plan. I also enjoy seeing how others make it work. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks so much for sharing how you meal plan - you sound very organised! I don't think I could meal plan much further ahead than a week but I can completely understand how that works for you and your family...I'm the only one that does any of the cooking in ours! lol.

I just wanted to say how much your video inspired me. I started a Bullet Journal in March this year after watching your video and your meal planning column with the sticky tabs helped me realise a goal I had for years but couldnt seem to be organised enough to stick with carrying it out and that is planning meals for the week that I could shop for but had flexibility based on what had happened on various days. Just having the sticky notes has helped remind me of meals i might want to make each week. I am more organised in every way with bill paying and places i need to be and important numbers etc all in one place. Thank you so much for the inspiration! Tash :)

I have just discovered your vlog (from Gingerella's vlog) as I was interested in the fact that you are a sewer and a Bujoer. I have been bullet journaling for the past year and I have never successfully integrated sewing into my journal yet. I think your way of doing it is the best I have seen yet and I may have a go myself, so thank you for the inspiration. I am also blown away by your meal planning system, something that I desperately need to get on board with. In summary, thank you very much for the inspiration for using my bullet journal for sewing and meal planning. I am going to get on board with both of these straight away (and then catch up with all of your previous vlogs). Thanks again, Tracy

That's very interesting, I have had a similar meal planning system for almost 40 years. I used to base each day starting with a starch: potatoes, rice, bread, pasta, then build with a protein, vegetables and fruits for dessert. A few years back I switched to starting with the protein, add vegetables, fruit for dessert with 2(occasionally 3) days having a starch. Like Friday night pizza is a bread meal, but toppings are heavy on protein and veggies. Usually 1 potato and 1 rice added to a meal per week. Pasta is served almost never because of health issues for a family member.

Hi I am trialing the bullet journey at the moment, I agree that drawing the layouts are very time consuming so that puts me off also I have to put it away somewhere safe due to 3 kids running around, so haven't been using it as much as I would like to. I really like the way your using it, I need mine for a sewing planner and meal planner so am going to try using it again. Thanks for sharing

I love your journal! I do keep my swatches in my planner and I use a stiff plastic page behind the page I'm working on for a flat solid surface, it works well! You have given so many ideas to be more interesting in my journal xo just love watching

I bought one of these journals a couple of months ago but have yet to start it. I've really enjoyed walking through your process with you! I too have a tendency to have SEVERAL books going at once and because that's been my system for so many years it's a difficult shift for me to make into one book but seeing how you've done it has given me some hope I'll actually be able to change :) I have Collettes Wardrobe book too and actually love it. I love it so much I think it's going to become a part of my regular sewing routine :)

Wow, you're so organized! I love your meal planning system a lot and need to give something like that a try. I don't have an organized system for tracking anything in life other than a calendar of appointments, but sometimes I think about incorporating one into my life.

lol, I think it just depends on the kind of personality you have - I have always been a list maker and a note taker...and as dorky as it sounds, I love filing and organising, so the bullet journal idea really appealed to me! But if your calendar works for you then I say just stick with it!

I caught the bullet journal bug and purchased a lovely note book from Paperchase. I sat down and started plotting it and then realised...I have a brand new diary - why am I making the diary part again? so in the end I found it great for sitting and reflecting my last year and thinking through my ambitions for home, work and creativity for 2017. It has really given me fresh focus for my work as I developed a clear strategy for overcoming issues experienced in 2016. That has already begun to pay off for me so yay! Also I am using it to reflect at the end of the week across all my categories what I achieved and produced and my plans for the next week. Apologies this is so long but basically...found it great as a tool for enabling time to think, plan and reflect rather than a diary. Loved a peep into your approach. 😉

I agree. I have always found putting pen to paper very cathartic. I have kept diaries and notebooks pretty much all of my life and I love looking back over them and seeing how I was feeling back then, and reading through goals and dreams. Its also such a great way to clear your mind. Thanks for your comment :)

Love how you have set out your planner, I would like one for sewing.I meal plan for the week but just on a planner sheet on the fridge but I have seen one similar to yours before only it was for a month. I quite fancy trying your method because each week I find it a pain to think I of something new/different to cook. I'm also on a healthy eating plan to lose weight so this would definitely help.
@Threadquarters

I used to use a planner sheet on the fridge, but I struggled each week trying to think of things to make so I thought if I kept all the sheets it would be good to look back on them. But then I ended up with loads of sheets....so, long story short, thats how I ended up just adding my meal plans to my diary, so that everything was in on place...and then I can look back on previous weeks for meal inspiration...as well as at the post it notes of meals at the back. I really do recommend it. And yes, I think it would work really well if you are on a healthy eating plan because it would be great to see all your meal options at a glance. Glad I was able to inspire!

Oh thanks! Yes, I don't plan my sewing like this anymore, even though I would love to. It is quite time consuming! I make a little pin board of my planned patterns and fabric swatches. There's a video about it on my channel. I really like the visual reminder up on my wall and its a fun way to plan 'capsules'.

Suzanna!! Your bullet journal is awesome! Thanks for sharing this, it's very inspiring. I mean, I've never been interested in having a bullet journal, until I watched this. Ha. (And I also adore stationery; when I was younger, I wanted to open a stationery shop!). The post it note style meal planning is great. And I really need to sort my life out with planning sewing, blogging and vlogging! I consider myself quite an organised person, and think others do too, and yet still feel quite disorganised sometimes, especially of late. I think maybe I'm using too many organisational tools/methods that I get jumbled. I'm off to look into bullet journaling! And your next vlog. Jen xx
