Years ago a Gurkha engineer squadron visited my base, an army training base in Canada. They did a number of projects and at one point were upgrading the camp water system. The found a swallow's nest in the remnants of little shed they had to clear away. The nest had eggs in it. So the entire troop packed up and went to work on another section of the base, returning to the water project only after the nest was no longer in use.

Anti Antifa Nepal has got its own military. Over 100,000 personals. That's 2/3 of what UK has. Plus 40,000 in Indian army. As Nepal isn't involved in any wars, Nepal Army mainly works closely with the UN around the world for peace and stability.

I was Serving in the Royal Navy in 1995 and was posted to NP2010 in the Falklands , (Naval Engineering Falklands Islands or NEFI )as it later became.The Gurkhas were the Ric in the Falklands at the time (Resident Infantry Company). We used the Gurkha Dining Hall at Mare Harbour every day and were also Affiliated to the Gurkhas Bar which we drank at in the evenings at Mount pleasant. These are the most Friendly Guys you will ever meet and would give their lives for the Uk in a Heart Beat .I have so much respect for these Guys and Proud to have Served alongside them.

I have nothing but love and respect for the Gurkhas, coming into a country where they’ve never been before, leaving everything behind, not knowing what to expect and how to speak the language properly. Gorkha is one district(Area) of Nepal where gorkha king was borned before him Nepal did not exist . He defeated many kingdoms and Named his Kingdom called Nepal. 2)Nowadays We are Nepali but concept of Gurkha has changed.Nowadays,e one who has selected in Gurkha Regiment in Nepal is Gurkha. 3)People of Nepal follows Hinduism the most(81%).Because Lord Buddha was born in Nepal buddhism is in practice too(14%).

Homesickness is hard for the first few weeks of training. Then they get into the routine of it. I have 31 years in Canadian Military. My oldest son just finished Basic Training a month ago. He would call every night. The first few weeks were very hard on him and me, his Mom. Great jobs on these boys. My son was so proud when he got thru his boot camp and is now working with the Canadian Navy. It is so nice to see these boys making their way in the world.

if they are aware you are gurkhas i think 90% of the british people would be more than happy to help you out at any chance they get so i hope they dont hesitate to ask for a hand if theyr confused about how to order / self service checkout or whatever else. my grandfather was raf and also spoke highly of gurkhas he had met, and i know hed be just as happy to help out.

That McDonald's is on Northgate in Darlington and was the only McDonald's in the town centre. It was always rammed but for some reason it closed down permanently in 2018. They were one of its last customers!

People don't appreciate that these young men have come such a long way, leaving their loved ones and having to adjust to changes in language, food, money also having to learn all things military. Such a contrast to one documentary I watched where some UK pupils went to school in India and did not conduct themselves so well.

I am Indian, a Punjabi and a Sikh. My great grandfathers brother fought for the British in Gallipoli during World War 1. Both my grandfather fought for them during World War 2. Both officers and one even being held as a POW for 3 years by the Japanese Batu Lintang camp at Kuching (Borneo). And 2 of my uncles have been part of the Gurkha regiment (India). I have had first hand knowledge of the sheer gut and determination that these men posses. Besides being warriors par excellence, they have the kindest demeanor. To see them today in this video reminds me of how my fore fathers would have been treated by their colonial masters. It saddens me when these great and proud people are made to feel like lottery winners. To fight for a foreign land and people who would not stop to think about them if they weren't cannon fodder. Us Sikhs were used in almost the same way. Help the white man subjugate ourselves. We got out of it. I pray, that so do the Gurkhas. JAI MAHAKALI !!!!!

iqsekhon It may have once been that the Gurkhas were treated without value. But that has passed. The British Army gives residency to Gurkha veterans and supports those who wish to return to Nepal. I can promise you that we in Britain only have the highest respect for them. We are not subjugating anyone.

I'm from Manchester U.K, I'm not sure the Americans really know that much about the Gurkhas or have that much fear or respect for them, but let me tell you, they are the most feared warriors on this planet, in certain situations, soldiers have fought with US troops or UK troops, but when they heard the Brits were sending in the Gurkhas they all surrender immediately, they have big curved blades and will mutilate you, they are really savage fighters, they are truly feared by all, they used to cut their enemies penis off and put them on a necklace so later they could prove how many kills they got, that's not allowed anymore. They are fanatical to join up, it's a tradition for them to try to become a Gurkha, and their families best wish for their sons are that they are chosen by to fight in the British Gurkha Regiment, it brings great honor on the family, and the boy is propelled from a poor farming village to be a highly skilled warrior on a good wage, lifetime pension and full UK citizenship for life. They are so proud to be part of us and we are so proud of them and their courage, bravery, and loyalty to our Country and Queen. We are incredibly privileged to have this relationship with Nepal and its people. Some of the stories of their achievements need to be researched to be believed, there are many books written on them, read about them, they are incredible and amazing.

Beef is not eaten by mostly Khas people from Nepal that are bahaun and chettri's. If you ask Rai-Limbus-Gurung's they have probably eaten beef in India or in Nepal from beef imported. In fact any meat is tasty to them (ask the wild boars from the jungle). Just to let you know that it's illegal to kill a cow in Nepal but eating beef is legal. You can import if you want to and is easily available in surrounding indian district like Darjeeling where beef is easily available.

nameless977 It is not only the Brits that call Gurkhas the bravest,all over the world gurkhas are renowned in the Millitary Circle for their dedication, training and discipline. Also you can't find any Sikhs or Pathans in British army now, why is that. Why do you think this our, relationship lasted. Indians don't like gurkhas in British because Gurkhas had a crucial role in stopping the sipoy mutiny. That is why they shell out terms like "Using people, Mercenaries" etc. Also being in the British army back then Strengthen Nepals Identity and Independence and Separates Nepal from India. About ploughing other's field, I don't think the whole of nepal ploughs others field in Qatar USA UK because few join the Gurkhas. Your forefather probably provided a comfortable life to his sons and grandsons from the riches back home. I have never heard bad things about the Gurkhas except from some Indians and our own people.

nameless977 I don't think it weakens socio-economic standard of the involved personnels. Neither the recruitment is forced, most youths join by their own determination. If it was so damnin then why would they join in, why would it be a matter of pride to the families tradition to be a Gorkha. By your logic joining Nepal army is also slave soldiers of Nepal government and why would Indians or Japanese describe Nepali army as brave. Pride belongs in the belief that what you are doing is right, unquestioned. These accounts of what you are reading are old, Modern day Gurkhas are well educated compared to the education back in the days. As the level of education grows the youths joining the Gurkhas will be more selective of their future so This is an opportunity nonetheless. Nepalese people contribute for worldwide peace keeping in UN, Private Security and general security for a hallmark character of being loyal and honest.

Help ever Hurt never yes, that was so funny 🤣 The every day uniform and boots is what they would wear for climbing Mount Everest 😅 I lived in Nepal and once I witnessed one of these pre-selection courses. Most of them ran the 5 km in sandals on mountain terrain. I was very impressed how they could run like that without losing their shoes 😂

Being Sikh heritage , like Gurkha's we served the British Army with many honours and VC's. Both have a proud military history and bravery.
