It's worth mentioning too, that since Shein is based in China, these scorpions and worms are all invasive species. If enough get out, they could have drastic consequences on the local ecosystem. I'm in the southern US, and we have many invasive insects and spiders from Asia that have been a massive nuisance over the past few years. They hide in packages coming in from overseas.

You’re right about the problems invasive species pose and that this does happen all the time with native insects but with this particular situation it’s obvious these insects aren’t wild and are from the pet trade. Those worms are super worms which people feed to animals like for example scorpions. I guarantee the same warehouse shien is using is also packaging invertebrates for pets and that’s how they’re getting into the packages. Some are escaping and finding their way into other boxes and workers are closing them up not realizing. I knew the second I saw that the worms were super worms that’s what was happening

Not that many invasive species causing an issue or concern at present as you described. Those usually come with container ships hosting thousands of containers making it possible that whole nests are brought in! The stings are usually harmless; however, fatal cardiovascular sequelae ensues following severe envenomation. Fun fact: I work for a retail company and we do not claim responsibility for bugs in packages. There’s no way to prove that they came from a warehouse even if it’s inside the package. Therefore, we always tell customers they have to dispute with the shipping carrier, not the manufacturer or retailer. I bet most retailers follow the same policy. I’ve had calls with people telling me they found bullets, rats, mealworms, and so many crazy things in their packages. Please know the company I work for does go and look in containers whenever there is a complaint just to make sure there’s nothing there but I’ve worked there for almost 20 years and never once have I ever got a report back saying it came from in our warehouse. But SHEIN/Temu are trash, that is for sure.

I used to work for FedEx as a package handler in one of their warehouse. We sorted packages to be put on the trucks that would deliver to homes and businesses. We don't open packages and they're usually pretty well taped closed. If they open we send them to a quality control person who's whole job is repackaging the item. If there are things in those packages that shouldn't be, we would have no idea unless the box split open. We've had a couple of shein packages that were those white plastic bag looking ones. If their something in them, it's from whoever sent the packages, not our warehouse or trucks. We only get the occasional spider that decided to squeeze itself into a package or crawl from outside.

Worst part is I've almost eaten a scorpion in my salsa once, so I got flashbacks thinking about it with this news. I had Herndez mild salsa with my mom and we bought a standard bottle but then she basically screamed for me to go to her room and asked me to give her my bowl. Turns out she ASSEMBLED THE THING FULLY WITH ONE MISSING CAUSE I ALMOST ATE A LEG. SHE ALMOST ATE THE VENOM SAC, THAT WAS HER NEXT BITE IF SHE DIDN'T BITE INTO A FRIED LEG FIRST AND FOUND OUT. Like I said, I really wasn't aware of any of Shein's issues. I've only ever heard of the people around me's good experiences with the app so I thought it'd be fine. Shein's a new thing to me.
