I remember Sherwood saying in an interview after we lost 4-0 in the FA cup final to Arsenal that he wanted to bring in proven and experienced premier league players in the summer to ensure we weren’t involved in another relegation scrap so it was very strange when we signed all those Ligue 1 players. Sounds like the Villa board didn’t really give him much of a choice and almost told him which players to sign.

@sebblackmore36978 ай бұрын
Different game now. Look at the tackles Maradona took and the amount of them each game. Ronaldinho's window was short in terms of club form. At his best prior to age 28-29. Messi is the greatest and is almost impossible to compare with most other players other than maybe Cristiano. Grealish had a reputation way before he hit the tv screens. Think Sir Alex was attempting to tap him up at 14/15 y/o. Played in all major domestic cup finals while at Villa, when the team around him was pretty drab. City haven't failed to win the league since he signed. Might be four in a row this season(never been done?) And picked up their elusive CL trophy last year. When you understand the difference between him and others, you understand why City and Pep chose to pay £100m. Pep had Messi also. Would you question him? I agree JG is not on the levels of those you mentioned. But compared to other English players now, his football intelligence surpasses most around. And how many true genius's come out of these shores? Even when Southgate decided to play him, England reached a final for the first time since 66. Since his move to City, his workload game to game has reduced dramatically. Yet his weekly wage and sponsorship deals have continued to rise. Is the game about entertaining, winning or business? Business always gets done, whether winning or entertaining happens or not. Grealish is laughing either way, whatever happens. Look at Stuart Dallas recently. As players the certainty from the beginning is, the game has a definitive ending, at some point. And Dallas was one of the lucky ones, scoring two against City and winning the game for Leeds. Its all opinions after all between fans, managers, scouts, players etc. Stats count for alot more nowadays. And as Jon points out here when talking about Benteke, contracts can play a massive part in terms of these stats.

Disappointing comment from Browny in this, "Blackburn fans still think they are Champions now!!" 100% wrong, Blackburn fans (those of us who are old enough and have two brain cells to rub together) are just annoyed that Jack Walker's legacy has been completely trashed by Venkys. All we have now is an ageing training complex and an ageing stadium. I can't speak for others but yes, I still have high standards because I know how much work went into making us a Premier League club with Premier League infrastructure and just see that very little is being done by the suits at the club to try and rectify this and return us to the club we once were. Sherwood does come across brilliantly in this, a very knowledgeable individual, highlights the importance of youth development and a manager investing his time in that area of a football club. I'd have him back at Blackburn as Manager in a heartbeat, but I couldn't blame him for wanting to return to the club that it has now become working for those clueless clowns.
