Lyrics:
Tonight we ride, right or wrong
Tonight we sail, on a radio song
Rescue me, should I go down
If I stay too long in trouble town
Oh, yeah, you wreck me, baby
Yeah, you break me in two
But you move me, honey
Yes, you do
Now and again, I get the feeling
Well, if I don't win, I'm a-gonna break even
Rescue me, should I go wrong
If I dig too deep, if I stay too long
Oh, yeah, you wreck me, baby
Yeah, you break me in two
But you move me, honey
Yes, you do
I'll be the boy in the corduroy pants
You'll be the girl at the high school dance
Run with me, wherever I go
And just play dumb, whatever you know
Oh, yeah, you wreck me, baby
Yeah, you break me in two
But you move me, honey
Yes, you do
You wreck me, baby
Yeah, you break me in two
Oh, but you move me, honey
Ah, yes, you do

The last time I listened to Petty was 2007. You were 22, and I was 29. So, 17 years later....It took for me to comment to You, that THEY NEVER LEFT. Tom Petty's Music is Here. Like Ozzy. My Heroes of Rock because they Understand just How easy it is to Lose it ALL. I hope you have a good life, perhaps a great life. Either way, I hope you know that I'm out there in the same world in Different Realms, but truly it all Blends and Meshes together...**I noticed the RC car. Those are Great! Take Care, *Much Love (rock and roll love of course).

**Bit of a long post, but I don't care.* My Dad passed on in 2007 when I was 29. It took until April 8th, 2024 to listen again. BURST of EMOTIONs as Clarity. The song was "Saving Grace" which was the last song we listened to Together in 2007. Now I'm jammin' *soberly*. 46 years of Age? Aside from a daily painful back, but I earned Every Scar. Petty, Ozzy, Alice In Chains...I'd say are my 3 biggest Rock Influences. All By 46!!! **I almost died many times, but each time it showed me How to Accept the Ways I Think.

I'd followed him since I was 16 (1977) and when he died, it astounded me that it was 40 years later. He was just "always there", churning out one good album after another. I really can't remember a time in my life that I didn't have one of his songs running through my head. In a world full of dullards it's hard to lose a true original.

Free Fallin started as a joke, he was trying to annoy his producer who was asking for a hit and then they both realized it was actually a good song, so they added a capo and made history. Petty couldn't write a bad song even when he tried to

I take exception with the Man upstairs on this one. We needed Tom Petty more than he did. If I was ever down, all I had to do was listen to Tom's songs, this one in particular, and I was lifted up, my soul was soothed. I love all genres of music but only Tom's music made me feel that way. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Mr Petty for the outstanding music, rest in peace talented, beautiful soul that you are.

Just browsing through comments, saw yours, Edie, if you see this, I agree that Tom knew how to write simple but dynamic, moving, songs. As far as the Man upstairs is concerned, well, just maybe, now 3 of the Travellin' Wilburys are back together.

Every once in awhile on this earth we find souls that are truly "human". They instinctlvely know what others need and find a way to provide. And are so very good at their chosen 'niche' in life. Tom for sure was one of those people. He surrounded himself with others of the same attitude. As awful as we feel for having lost Tom...I am sadder to think of the rest of the Heartbreakers for their loss, and the Petty family as well.

So thankful I got to see him at least once. 20 years ago in Duluth MN. Staples Singers opened. I came back to Miami in 1976 from college and I grew up close to 441 with the waves crashing on the beach. Been playing his music for the last 40 years and performing it for the last 20. A poet who could capture the experiences that make us most human and, of course, the voice of the Baby Boomer generation. Like everyone, miss him so much. Huge Mike Campbell fan, perhaps the hookiest guitarist of his generation. Petty comes out on stage to start the show in Duluth, they played the first song everyone is on their feet and applauding, but the applause doesn't really stop, maybe a minute in, they start the next song - the audience stops applauding. This happens two more times 🙂. After the third song (they've been looking at each other on stage kind of like, what's going on). Petty comes to the mic and says "guess we should have come here a long time ago." Of course, the audience exploded in laughter and more applause. Wonder if any of the other members of the band would remember that.

Cindy Roll Me too, Cindy. THANK GOD for Tom Petty! I live in New Zealand and when I was younger, Bob Dylan toured here and Tom Petty was the support act. I love Dylan, but he was so wasted that he couldn’t play very well, and unfortunately he got booed off stage! Well, Petty came out and saved the night! Little story that I’ll tell my grandkids!

When Tom Petty could not finish this song, after 2 years into the making of the album "Wildflowers" in one night he changed just one word which in turn changed the entire song. Instead of the Title of the song being. "You Rock Me Baby" he changed the Title to, "You ROCK Me Baby." That is what a Great Artist does. They hang on to their best work such long periods of time, until they find the perfection that they need to make the song as they feel it should be, not only for themselves or for their Fabs, but for both to enjoy. 🎶💜🎶

"I'll be the boy in the corduroy pants, you'll be the girl, at the high school dance. Run with me, wherever I go, and just play dumb, whatever you know. You really wreck me honey, yeah you break me in two, but you move me honey, yes you do.: I love, love, love those lyrics. Miss the hell out of you, Tom. To the friend and college roommate who shared her copy of Full Moon Fever with me in 1992, you have my eternal gratitude. She introduced me to Tom and AC/DC. I introduced her to The Police and Sam Adams lager.

It honestly mind blowing how TP had success in the 90s in an era where nirvana grunge r&b and hip hop was huge without having to copy any trends just goes too show how Tom Petty was just able to connect to different generations Mary Jane's Last Dance, You Wreck Me, Into the Great Wide Open, and Learning to Fly are as classic as American Girl Breakdown and The Waiting I imagine a dad who grew up in the 70s seeing his kid in the 90s seeing his cd collection among his nirvana Metallica Ice Cube collection he sees Tom Petty's Greatest Hits TP was just an artist to still be good in the 70s 80s and 90s I still hate myself for not seeing him live to this day RIP
