Waow, that part where he talks about taking up surfing at the age of 58 really hit me. Such a simple thing really, and one that really makes sense, but something that I`ve never looked at in that way. In no way is life "over" at 58, nor is it over at 48 or 38. At those ages you still have decades to dream, achieve, grow, learn and experience. At 38, and if you live to be 98, you have 60 (!!!) more years to really explore yourself and the world. And the flip side of that mindset is that all those new experiences, with all the fun and wisdom that comes along with it, probably will make your mind and body healthier, which in turn will make you live even longer! Already a Chip-fan! Love this one, Tom!

Thank you Tom and Chip!! As a 61 year old, self-employed woman, who is still working her way toward her goals and dreams, I have been really struggling lately with the sense of being outdated, and without enough time left on the planet to achieve what I want to... to such a degree that I even 'attracted' an argument with a 'man in a van', this week, who sneered, "What's up love? Going through the menopause?", whilst his friend sniggered. The insult didn't bother me, but it did lead me to examine what was going on inside my own head. Anyway, this video was the first thing that came up on KZbin, early this morning, whilst I was having a cup of tea in bed... perfect timing! I am going to re-listen, carefully, and check out Chip's books. The Creative Force Of Life is always listening, and always responding, if we could only recognise that.

As usual, this is so perfectly timed for me to see. I just turned 48. Started snowboarding at 39, looking forward to learning and doing so much more in the next 40 years. I LOVE the idea of asking good questions and attaching my sense of success to learning more than winning. I am a singer-songwriter and author and artist, and most of what I create is not enjoyed or appreciated by anyone else. Sometimes I get discouraged and want to quit. I feel strongly that it is important to be willing to innovate, try new things, and be willing to be messy or fail in order to realize new ideas. Being present and letting go of attachments and expectations is big on my mind these days. I used to go to Rainbow Gatherings for years. I love that you are thinking of going to Burning Man, though I think it has changed as everything does. I also see that rituals are important and needed more than ever in our society. Maybe we will do our first Burning Man at the same time! :) Much love to everyone listening to this.

Such an awesome guy!!! And he has that sage like calmness about him. Everything is cyclic in this world. People in western countries are going back towards what is revered forever in ancient/eastern cultures. Sadly the eastern cultures are going the opposite way and think mocking and trashing “elder-hood” makes them look cool and current. Even the festivals/rituals of ancient cultures were subtly mocked because many people in the west think there should only be a few festivals that align with theirs (Christmas, Thanksgiving etc).

Yes, of course. First time, I was a child and had fever so my mum gave me a medicine/pill to lower my temperature. My immune system reacted with the rejection of my own ("poisoned") blood. Drug allergy -I react on some types of pharmaceutic products with an anaphylactic shock. Second time I had an pulmonary infarction because I couldn't handle a lung infection on my own. This was in 2015 and I remember clearly how it felt to smother and then leave the body, the fear and the pain. Sometimes I think this doctor saved my life with his words ... somehow like "I don't want back in this broken physis again, but this guy is right, I'm too young to die - I have to fight" .

I'll be 27 next month. Glad I figured out the meaning of life. (for me) Just live, help others, enjoy the moment, don't worry, know that time in infinite and life is a repetition, and live your life to the fullest without any regrets. BTW I suffered from depression, anxiety, stress, social anxiety, severe acne, loneliness, feeling of lost, not finding my purpose, and procrastinated for 7- 13 years. (some of these took 7 years to overcome while the others took up to 13 years). Middle and HS was the worst time of my life. At 25.5 years old, i went to beast mode and change my life. Feel free to reply and I'll comment on anything you need. Happy Living!

But the feeling of being "stupid" compared to these co-founders is crazy. It's as if they know what I know at a level WAYYYYYY deeper. Added to that, they can go beyond that. Tom - every time you do an interview, I think this is the best one yet but this one really hit home and most likely because I am 46 and in the process of reinventing myself and switching from an employee to become an entrepreneur. So much wisdom , so many good quotes - I just listened for the second time to take more notes. For me the best quotes are :”First half of life is all about being interesting and the second half is all about being interested “ and “ a fixed mindset is all about winning and trying to prove yourself whilst a growth mindset is all about learning and improving yourself 🧠🕺”. I will definitely buy his book and would be keen to his “elder academy “. Thank you for the continuous high quality content. Warmest regards from London.

Burning Man is amazing! I've participated twice and hope to again this year. Gifting fresh baked bread from my bread van.

Tom at 15:26 "..I fall into the death denier camp. I am actively pursuing living forever." Priceless, lol. The deadpanned delivery. All.of it.

Same here. I think the message conveyed to today's youth is that the 20s are your best time, and if you don't get it right or attain what you want by 30, it can feel pretty bleak for those who believe that.

Hi Tom--based on your obsession with staying "mortal" forever and with some of your guests who discuss suicide and near death experiences, I thought you might be interested in inviting Sam Parnia as a guest on you show. He wrote a book entitled "Erasing Death" and talks about the very experience that Chip Conley experienced himself.

You invited Entrepreneur, Enthusiast, Motivator, and short time experience as monk-like Jay Ghanashyam Shetty, but pieces from puzzle are still missing, means to interview the monk who spends decades as monks. Finally, I would like to say, please interview Dandapani who lives as Monk for a decade. He always focuses to talk about "how to focus and live a happy life". I don't have to mention to check the detail because you always do and always make a fantastic intro.
