Thank you, Tom... I do spend the whole morning on a weekend going through your serial video from tutorial 1 to 8, it`s really helpful for me right now, especially I am in the construction industry as well. Currently, handle a big complex building project. Your tips give more thoughts about MS Project than ever before even I do use MS for the previous project, but not so clear as you sharing here. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. All the best ... !!!!

Another good segment. I practice the same, but your video just re-emphasized the need to organize it (PMs "are" about organizing things in the otherwise chaotic cycle of things) :)

Thanks for these videos Tom, very helpful. I've watched all your project updating videos and have a question. I'm working through a monthly update, for example, and realize that I'd like to add some tasks just to better reflect what happened in the past month. They're not changes or delays, rather detail I didn't have in my original schedule. Or perhaps I had a task that was too broad and want to break it down into more granular detail. Is that appropriate to do in an UPDATE type file?
@TomStephensontraining
@TomStephensontraining 2 жыл бұрын
I would say if you are providing the update to the client to not add significant detail if it is not related to a change, delay or change in sequencing. The detail can be added into you lookahead schedules as you definitely want to clarify the work as you make it ready in the short term

Hello Tom, I cannot thank you enough for these insightful videos, more so because I just started using MS Project a few months ago. Please I have a question on schedule updates, I would like to be sure if my project master schedule and the first baseline that I have set, should be my reference point for all future status updates on my project? If not, I am wondering what would be my prompts to set more baselines.
@TomStephensontraining
@TomStephensontraining 2 жыл бұрын
I usually use the main baseline as the reference. I use file protocols as the as built schedule with the same baseline. If you check my ms project made easy playlist on my channel I also go through how to use multiple baselines but for me I prefer the file protocol process which works for long projects. You made need to rebaseline a schedule if there are large changes and either can work for that.

Hi Abhijit, Thanks for the kind words. You will find in my MS Project Made Easy play list the volume should be overall higher if this is too low for you. You've given me an idea though, I noticed that I have not updated this one so perhaps I will do an update with higher volume and a few other add ons this week (Thanks). I have been adding to the playlist with greater detail and focus starting from the beginning see the links and topics below: MS Project Made Easy • Tutorial 1 Introduction kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYrcXpx8r99ke9E • Tutorial 2 Calendars kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnmppmOci9iUrZo • Tutorial 3 5 things to improve kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp7Qg6Nvab-fmtE • Tutorial 4 Resources kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqG8aWSca8aAhcU • Tutorial 5 Filter kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXK6ppSNotibhrs • Tutorial 6 Updating kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5uYgqata8drbrc • Tutorial 7 Revisions kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHyxoYSGrM96q8k • Tutorial 8 Change Orders kzbin.info/www/bejne/gl6sc5mHgKuabLM • Tutorial 9 Timeline scale kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4fbXplmqtSgfJo • Tutorial 10 Work, Duration, Units, Effort Driven kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHykhKJ-ftylZ80 • Tutorial 11 Resource Leveling kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGe8hmZ5na-Frqs • Tutorial 13 Baselines kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4WviYaKrdKNqtk • Tutorial 14 Mult baselines and Changes kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIaVlnhsbKhpr9U • Tutorial 15 Master Project kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3eUkIungp59f6c • Tutorial 16 Resource Pool kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6Csg3qXbsaLpc0 • Tutorial 17 5 Project Hacks when reviewing kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZvOZaigeN-jjs0 • Tutorial 18 Hammock Activity kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3qTnJmCZs92htE • Tutorial 19 Resources by volume kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIDIq5xue7yHja8 • Tutorial 20 Buffers kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6PbiGVra7BompY • Tutorial 21 Cash Flow kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqnTXqdrq61qarc • Tutorial 23 Overallocation and leveling kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqHLonyYhragjsk • Tutorial 24 Templates kzbin.info/www/bejne/aovOeWaEg9-rbqc

Hello Tom, under the file saving protocol for narratives, where should these narratives be located, are they the same thing as the notes we make on tasks, for instance when we reschedule?
@TomStephensontraining
@TomStephensontraining 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ray, I think you are referring to a schedule narrative which is the written highlight or executive summary ofcwhat happened since the last update. You have given me an idea for a video. I will try to shoot that next week or the week after. Click notifications and watch for it. But yes definitely when you identify a delay I always put a note so I don’t forget later which can be a challenge.

Hi Tom, Thanks for those useful tutorials. I'm questioning the usefulness of having different Microsoft Project files for the same project. I went through the whole video and I still wondering if it wouldn't be better to keep everything in a single file. In Ms Project we can register as many baselines as we want. One for each step if you will. Why wouldn't be the solution you kept for your work. Did really Microsoft left that issue non addressed in Project ? What's your catch on that? Thanks Nessim
@TomStephensontraining
@TomStephensontraining 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nessim, check my msproject playlist I have a couple of examples videos on multiple baselines which can work on shorter projects but they are capped/limited so I find the file saving protocol works really well for contemporaneous/as built schedules.

I am a certified PMP PMI, and am watching the tutorials to earn PDU's. Video tutorials like these also need a naming convention and I cannot see this. I cannot find #12. Netflix has series and episodes. This gives it structure and you know how far you have progressed. Please edit the names to something like "MS Project Tutorial #01: "MS Project Made Easy: Project Manage any Project Using MS Project.Learn the Basics."
