Exactly, it is so much better. I also really enjoy anticipating other traffic and seeing their mistakes from miles away and avoiding the accident for them. Best is when they realize they didn't notice, and then you just smile back at them.

I have been a regular London cyclist since 1978, and I can say without doubt that the situation is now hell on earth, cyclists are their own (and every one els's ) worst enemy. I now only cycle out of peak times, whereas back in the day, I rode to work and back every day.

I'm a cyclist and I get annoyed with dangerous cyclists. I studied the highway code before I started cycling on the road, i didn't cycle on the pavement, I used the cycle paths before. I do think that there should be a basic highway code book when you buy a bike

Back in the 1950 when I started at Secondary school I have to sit and pass a Cycling Proficiency Test before being allowed to cycle to school. The new termers had traffic light Zebra and road crossing tuition perform by the police using cars, motorcycle and pupils walking and on bikes. We were taught not to linger at Zebra Crossing if we were not crossing, to put one foot on the kerb at the crossing, before that people had to put a foot on the crossing for cars to stop. We were taught the Green Cross Code, look right then left and right again, if clear cross the road quickly and straight across now at angles. Traffic light sequence and when it was safe to cross, watching for cars turning from the green junction. A police man would stand behind a pupil reading a book and starting to cross the road, with a squad car coming, the pupil pulled back well in time and the car doing a dramatic skid. Seams the lessons have served me well as I've never been knocked down up to know and I'm 77. Now living in Vietnam where at each change of traffic hundreds of scooters set off in all directions and the Highway Code is totally ignored.

I was driving my van and about to turn left. Looked in my mirror and saw a cyclist right next to me. I indicate, and he still stays there. My passenger puts his arm out and yells to the cyclist "Oi mate! We're turning left, back off back off!" he ignores us. As I get to the turn off I slow down and come to a stop before the turn. The cyclist pulls up and starts yelling at us accusing us of being too close to him.

Aimee Frost Unless a pedestrian steps out blindly in front of a driver then that normally is a drivers fault. However, cyclists undertake in moving traffic coming up to junctions, which the highway code tells them not to, they run red lights and go though pedestrian crossings as the rules of the road clearly don't apply to them. They then blame the motorists if they get hit or the pedestrians for getting in their way when they're crossing the road at traffic lights or zebra crossings. Just like that cyclist who killed a women, crossing a zebra crossing and maintained she was at fault, thankfully he was given a jail sentence, but lots of cyclists think they are right! Those who drive and cycle seem to be the best as they know not to undertake, stop at light etc.

We were in the city a long time while back and an impatient courier decided he didn't want to wait for pedestrians on the green man. He shoved his way through the pedestrians shouting beep beep until he hit my sister in laws leg. He then spent the next 10 minutes laid on the floor begging us not to hurt him. Luckily we are quite reasonable peopl, that isn't always the case in London.

No wonder drivers and pedestrians dislike cyclists. I know, I'm a driver too as well as a cyclist at times. When I do ride a bike I ride it properly by stopping at the red light plus sticking to the hard left shoulder of the road. These idiots on their bikes don't obviously do that. They ride too fast where they think they are on Tour De France and they don't stick to the cycle lanes. It's hardly surprising that they end up in hospital or even get killed due to a nasty accident. It's their fault really for riding carelessly, they forgot the highway code. Cruising it with due care is what I call proper cycling.

I might add, the human eye can see a single candle flame 11 miles way in the dark, so who (car drivers included), needs any overbright headlights.

It's not about care, it's about funding. The Metro Police has less officers today than it had in 2004 - and that's before all the extra duties around terror prevention. (Also, police is encouraged to be lenient with cyclists by a lot of cities because they want to get more people out of their car and onto their bike, thinking that frequent fines would deter them from riding their bike. Not understanding, that a lot more people would use their bike if it was actually SAFE, which it would become if they enforced the law strictly on all road users, including cyclists. I know it sounds paradoxical at first, but imposing fines on cyclists for endangering road safety would make MORE cyclists, not less. But that's a whole lot of different political discussion...)

I am quite happy to live in Berlin. Usually, streets are wide enough so busses and cyclists can coexist. Actually, often bus and bike lanes are combined, and bus drivers are well trained and are cooperative. So I try to cooperate as well :-)

Believe me or not but i got angry talk from 60+ lady at the pool when i was sneezing clorinated water out of my nose since i was practicing underwater long distance swimming and there is just no way to breath out while umderwater on 50 meters long distance. I'm not a cyclist and I don't live in London but I'm used to driving in busy city traffic. What strikes me is that cycling there is so dangerous, especially with all the buses, even for the ones who don't take mad risk. And the majority of cyclists in this vid seems to be in such a rush to get where they're going. Probably why they cycle rather than drive.

I usually side with the cyclists because motorists hate cyclist for really stupid reasons., however these London cyclists are a special kind of crazy, but then that goes for the drivers too. Difference still is though, the cyclists are far more a hazard for themselves (and a major nuisance to others, note I said far more not only so don't start). The drivers are more a hazard to cyclists. When you wield a bigger danger you wield a bigger responsibility. Driving a personal car in London is pretty silly anyway.

Big Ring There are blind sides, so cyclists should also look out for themselves, as even with mirrors and looking around cyclists may not bee seen, which is why at junctions cyclists should pass on the right or stay behind the vehicle, only passing on the left in stand still traffic, either red lights or congestion, but seems only drivers who cycle follow those rules, where as others just don't know the rules, which are there to protect them as well.

I 100% agree with everything you said. Cycle lane or not, unless there's a barrier, undertaking the front vehicle at an intersection is particularly sketchy as even red lights turn green.

Boodieman72 I drive rode motorbikes before and I cycle too. I've pushed over 2 people so far while cycling myself. Last one was a guy who done a red light then said f off when I told him off. Next light when he was going past a gave a nice push. I went past him because I'm on a ebike and he was a slow cyclist

A friend of mine is disabled. He uses a walking stick. He tells me that a walking stick through the front wheel spokes of a cyclist who fails to yield at a pedestrian crossing is a perfect tool to bring them down to earth !

Seeing this and comparing our situation in Southern California, where a big push is being made to get people out of cars and onto alternate means of transportation, in London, it appears that the influx of bicycles hampers to a degree, the flow of vehicle traffic, with some friction and overall stress in the city being caused by negative interactions between cyclists and motorist, and between cyclists and cyclists. Even in the most congested parts of Los Angeles, in downtown (where I lived and cycled for 7 years), at least the layout of the vehicular and cycling lanes are in a grid. What I am seeing in London is not a grid, but a maze, with lanes meant only for vehicles meeting lanes that have been altered to accommodate cyclists. When these lanes converge, the cyclist can either stay in the vehicle lanes and wait their turn, or spill out onto areas and impede the flow of traffic. This disrupted flow brings opportunities for confrontations between cyclists and motorists, and other cyclists who are also jostling for position, resulting in friction, name calling, and a bad day for all involved. This is not a put down of London, nor do I have a solution. Just an observation and comparison to my cycling experience in the big city. Since this clip is a compilation and not all that can be seen in any given day, I do give credit to the motorists and cyclists in London, who just want to get from point A to point B without a blow up. At the same time seeing the things that boil to the surface, much is probably restrained and kept tucked away, giving a nod to the whole of London herself for her self-restriction.
