If you are starting out with the Turkish Get UP, begin doing the reps from the top down. Then reset to the top of the motion again. I guess you could call them "negatives," but doing the downward motion is easier at first and you get the mechanics grooved.

When I started, I would freeze the KB at the top of my snatch with the KB handle down. I called that one the "Statue of Liberty" snatch. You have to apply a well-timed crush grip to get it to stop perfectly upside down and I don't think it would work if the KB was heavier. Thanks for the videos.

GREAT great stuff. Lot of wear and tear on my body now over the years. Free weights were good but now in my early 60s the mechanics are getting more difficult, dropping weight to make sure I can control the equipment. Some exercises I don't do anymore because of the slow change in mobility. Focus has switched so much now to form to avoid injury that it's almost all I think about and I don't like it and even then I am still getting more tweaks and longer and longer recovery times. I know I'm old but come on. I like the kettlebell because now it's more systemic than isolated and different muscles learn to work better w/ each other so the movements are a lot smoother and they flow. It's a different kind of hard and I can focus on effort more and not as much as I had to before on form to prevent injury as kettlebells seem more forgiving in a way. Your "right way/wrong way" examples and the reasoning behind it are outstanding. It's one thing to know how to do something the right way, but it's equally important to know why to do it that way. You are much appreciated.

Hello!!! I am interested in getting started with kettle bells. I have an injury at my right ankle and massive lack of mobility. It looks like kettle bell swings keep your ankles in the neutral position which is what I need. Is this true?
@martinsdaugins2116 Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for detailed tutorial. I have question, can i do that hook position with any kettlebell or need specialised one? I have vinyl/cement one with wider and fatter handle. Got it, cos it felt right in hand, but trying to do that resting on arm move, but i ed up every time short....its hand part not locking in to corner or arm part. So was wondering if i need thinner and right form kettlebell to perform right, or just practice. Weight part is bigger too...if i compare soviet 32kg barbell with vinyl 16kg, vinyl one is larger. Thank you.

We advise our male clients to start with 12 kg. At 10:30, I was referring to a so called "Tripod" stance of the foot. - Gregory
@matriaxpunk3 жыл бұрын
Just a question regarding the strict press: shouldn't we press the kettlebell in a 45 degree angle instead of straight through the midline? You talk about the midline as being the natural position of the shoulder to move freely, but I've always heard that the shoulder should move following the scapular plain wich, again, is pretty much in a 45 degree angle in relation to the body. If I try to push the bell straight up, my shoulder feels kind of impinged at the top of the movement. By the way, I'm not talking about pressing the beel fully separating the arm from the body in a 90 degree angle like some people do. Thank you in advance. Keep it up.
@lebe-stark3 жыл бұрын
In pressing, we follow the concept of kettlebell sport where the idea is to find the shortest distance between point A (rack position) and point B (overhead/ top fixation). That's why we press through a medial line like you mentioned. Great observation! - Gregory

I do have a question though. If I see the general kettlebell exercises, I don't see much rotation focused exercises. It might be injury prone I guess. I've always had the idea, for a good balanced functional workout, you need to workout on all planes of motion. However do you think "kettlebell exercises only" are giving a good balance in all planes of motion of the human body? Or do you need extra exercises for that? Ps. I do understand, even though you are not directly targeting it, you're still using the muscles indirectly.
@lebe-stark3 жыл бұрын
I'd argue that a proper snatch or clean (with one kettlebell) works all planes of motion to a certain degree. I'm answering your question in more detail in our recent podcast: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5aydZ-igrZ_otE - Gregory
