I’m back again to say, you’re a genius! This recall game worked for a 4 months old puppy. She is smart as well to grab it so fast! ❤

I do the food throwing and recall everyday, it's really fun and great for recall.

I noticed the musical inflection in your voice as you called your dogs name, Apollo. I also so that with my dog Sailor as it helps with recall outside. I use a raised arm for recall while bringing it down rapidly so she can easily see the signal from far away. She has 100% recall outside and I hope it stays that way, as she is only 12 weeks old.

Yes!! The sooner you start, the better it will be! Just remember to stay consistent :)

I'll definitely try these games with my dogs! Their recall is pretty good but they get distracted easily. Thank you for the video!

I accidentally saw the video and couldn’t wait to practice. My dogs used to leave as soon as they finished their food. Dogs are very wary. When you call them back, they stand and watch from a distance.

A collar grab is great for this! You could also "Jackpot" every time they come back to you. Jackpotting is where you deliver multiple treats one at a time to make the reward experience even better for your dog. This would look like: Dog comes to you when called - grab their collar with one hand - give one treat 3 or 4 times - let go of their collar - repeat Let me know if this helps!!

We got a 6 months old goldie and we train her only outside. She, being a goldie and addicted to cheese, learned quite quickly that coming back when called earns tasty rewards. Those recall games are really good training for indoors though and I'll definitely try it, thanks!

why collar grab? Dont you wanna prevent the need for a collar grab if you're a good trainer?
@pawfectdogbehavior10 ай бұрын
A collar grab is a wonderful way to make sure your dog comes close enough to you to be touched. A lot of times dogs come just out of reach, preventing you from putting their leash back on or coming inside. The collar grab prevents this :)

I notice you saying Apollos name before you cue him to his climb, does this not create confusion because you're sending him away but also using his name that should be the recall?
@pawfectdogbehavior11 ай бұрын
That's a good question! By saying his name before giving the "climb" cue, I'm making sure I have his attention. So effectively, his name is his attention cue and his recall cue. When I recall him from his climb, I am using my hand as a physical cue to come towards me and his name is used as the attention getter. So when I recall, I'm saying "Apollo" and showing him my hand to nose touch or collar grab. The hand is the cue to come towards me, and his name is the "look at me" or "pay attention to me" cue.

All easy breeds to train there but i do like some of your ideas there.
@pawfectdogbehavior Жыл бұрын
Some would say Huskies are difficult to train, as well as cattle dogs. Cattle dogs can be considered “stubborn” breeds to train by some people. I have a wonderful relationship with my dogs and have made it so it’s easy to train them, but I have put in a lot of work to get there :)
@saramartin62311 ай бұрын
Where are you located? Do you offer training? I have 2 huskies they are very well behaved except my female husky has a hard time with recall when something provoked her (squirrel, another dog, etc) and also has a hard time with possessiveness whether it be people or food or toys. Practicing the collar grab has been great… when nothing distracting is around. I’ve taken her to the spectated fenced area of a dog park and that seems ok but if there’s no fence to keep her away from other dogs she wouldn’t listen to not bother them - and I can’t come closer to her she’ll be more aggressive in trying to protect me I’m guessing… do you have any advice?
@pawfectdogbehavior11 ай бұрын
I offer an online course that I think would help with this immensely!! Check out the course here: www.pawfectbehavior.com/courses/pawsitive-focus Before going to the park, I would practice the collar grab in different rooms of your house, your backyard, then in your front yard, then go to a dog park. By adding in distractions gradually, you’ll find more success!!

@@pawfectdogbehavior cattle dogs eg shepherds are one of the easiest breeds to train, highly intelligent. I have a Staffordshire bull terrier crossed with a husky, took a while but he's impeccable now, so obedient. Not easy breeds to train & most don't bother to train either breed due to the difficulty in training them. I've rescued so many seriously abused & neglected dogs with severe behavioural problems & trained them all as well as rehabilitated them. I'm in the UK & enjoy picking up different techniques as all dogs are different especially when they've been through hell!

how do you build this when other dogs are around. My dog listens so well but the second theres other dogs he goes crazy, its super frustrating
@pawfectdogbehavior Жыл бұрын
100% start with only one dog in the room. Once your dog is reliable alone, have another dog in a crate in the same room. Progressively make the "distraction" (the other dog) higher. Maybe have the other dog tethered on leash, or on a boundary. I really like practicing recalling my dog off a boundary while other dogs stay on their boundary. I'll try to make a short with me doing this! Let me know if you need any other help!!

I'm going to try these with my Girl. She's extremely suspicious about being offered treats and touching her collar. I suspect she had a negative experience in the past.

A lot of dogs don't like their collar being touched! Start with only the collar grabs, and gradually grow it into a recall :)

Dogs are visual not auditory learners? 1.Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. 2 Saying the dog's name. Then it turns to look. 3. Using the name and yes. Verbal cue with hand gesture. Clearly, all this is based on auditory learning. Try these games with a deaf dog.
@pawfectdogbehavior11 ай бұрын
There are definitely accommodations you can make for deaf dogs, or even different games entirely
