Shoutout to Baberuthless! » What are your favourite box art covers from a fighting game?

Darkstalkers on PSP yo i forgot how hard that went! Baberuthless just has this uncanny ability to recover lost memories for me. Also Tekken 4 Pal cover ive never even seen! I wish the US version had that one

Interesting, yeah I think the same too. The Japanese cover for Tekken 4 is alike to the PAL cover but I’m not a fan of the compositions of the 3D renders there. The PAL cover should’ve been for all regions, really. I was intrigued about Baberuthless’ picks; they were interesting because some games she mentioned were quite obscure to me. But in doing my research, and looking at her picks-I like them; they’re very stylish! I learned a lot 😅

I really like the street fighter 2 one. I love how on the nose the image is to the name and it makes me feel like there's a world beyond just the 1v1 gameplay that's in the game. I think I also love how chun Li is the one to be fighting and not downed or in need of saving. Feels refreshing to me.

I agree. It’s also cool because not only does it nod to the title but it’s nice to see a different take on the SF characters. Poor Ryu, hehe!🤭

Real Bout Fatal Fury and Marvel Vs. Capcom 1 (Shoutouts to the Japanese version having less of the art obscured by the logo) are my personal favorites, but I have a distinct mid 2000s memory of seeing an ad for Darkstalkers Chaos Tower using the art in Tips & Tricks magazine and thinking it was one of the coolest pieces I've ever seen. Might actually still have that magazine somewhere now that I think about it... Great video as always!

Thanks! That’s interesting, I’m always curious about video game magazines since I kind of remember that’s how you’d unlock cheats and things like that.

loooool! 😂 That’d be a cool compilation as well 😆

LOL Real Bout is actually the most fire image. I would've choosen soul calibur 2 jinstead of 3 only because it switches based on the console version, which reminds you of why you appreciate the console you own. and Marvel 1 on dreamcast I think has the box art everyone likes as well, unless im wrong >_>

The SC2 ones are really cool also! I played SC3 quite often, so that game sticks with me more. However, Europe didn’t get the NA cover… which I think should’ve been the box art for all regions, really. Interesting-I’ve never seen that Marvel Vs Capcom box art before since I didn’t grow up with those games, but it’s neat!

My Favorite Fighting game cover arts are: • Mortal Kombat (2011) - Scorpion and Sub Zero in that one cover art is Badass. • Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate - Between Scorpion are Mileena, Rain, and Rambo. • Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) - Fire God Liu Kang being the massive appeal/poster boy. • Soul Calibur 4’s cover art(s) - Star Wars characters (Darth Vader and Yoda) being among the SC characters.

Nice! I like Those MK covers, especially when it comes to how they arrange the characters on those covers. The SC4 covers are nice but Darth Vader and Yoda were such random guest characters… 😆
@BlazerK19147 ай бұрын
@@fragmentedpixels Yeah, quite true about Darth Vader and Yoda, but I enjoyed their inclusions. Fighting games are at times weird.

This video just reminded me how sad it is that we don't really get to have box art for a lot of games now. It's really nice having that physical object, it feels like a single thing that holds all the fun and memories from playing the game.

Yeah, you had to really sell a game back then. That and I think some of that lack of emphasis on box art has to do with the market push for all-digital games. Similar to what’s going on with music and album/single covers.

Tekken Tag and KoF 95 are great picks. They may be simple in design, but the focus on the characters' eyes cant help but grab your attention. Baberuthless' Real Bout pick at the end is also a favorite cover of mine. Nice composition with that art, portraying Geese's status in South Town.

just now I’ve noticed my picks focus on the eyes… 🤔 I agree. To me it’s all about composition when it comes to box art.

Kinu Nishimura is really an FGC art goat. Her work on third strike is really awesome aswell
