What made you go from 3 to 2 strength sessions a week?

Lifting done right takes a lot out of you. I feel the fatigue from lifting in the pool when I'm doing 3x, and that's fine for short course, but dropping to 2x has made the extra work in the pool for long course doable. I'm plenty strong, maybe stronger than I need to be for long course, so all I need is maintenance and 2x is enough for that.

Hey fike, have you considered going bare foot for deadlift and squat?
@josephlane19498 ай бұрын
Also, what’s the sailboat drill for backstroke? Never heard of it!
@FikeSwim8 ай бұрын
My strength coach keeps mentioning it but doesn't push me to try it, so no. I hear it helps, and now that you mention it, I might have to try it.

@@josephlane1949 you freeze your arms with one reaching for the wall and the other 45 degrees above the water, then you switch after 10 kicks or a full 25. Really helps with catch, arm position, body position, kick, timing.

I know you're a breaststroker, but I have to ask - since you're someone that is clearly more on the sprinter side of things, have you ever thought about going for it in the 50free?
@FikeSwim8 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think every swimmer dreams of the 50 free, at least at some point, but it's a bit late in the game to switch over now. The churn and burn you need takes more time to develop than the four weeks of hard training I have left.
