Thank you so much for this video ! It was a life saver for me. Followed it exactly and I repaired my Tiger 800 yesterday with a Rick starter motor successfully after push starting my bike for months ! Took me about 5 hours as a novice. I had the exact problem discussed everywhere with first hot start issues (draining huge amounts of power when hot) and then finally original starter motor failing completely.

How do you push start your tiger? I've been trying it on 2nd gear and no go :/

I have a Ricks stator and it's starting to fail just like the stock one did. I had 8k miles on the stock one and was left stranded once because I stall and it wouldn't crank over with a hot engine. When I first put the Ricks starter on it worked great and fixed all my problems. The whole job took about 4-5 hours. I have put about 4k miles on the Rick's starter now and it does not crank the bike when it is hot, just like the factory starter. I called Rick's customer service and they won't warranty it because I ordered it 2 years ago. What a headache!

I've gone through 2 OEM starter motors already and am now installing Rick's. If Rick's exhibits the same hot start issues down the line, I'm going to sell the bike and go get a 1200GS

@@xbonezds Somebody in a Facebook group claimed that I needed to tighten the negative battery bolt down. I took a torque wrench and 100 in/lb’s later it fires up beautifully again. I thought the bolt would snap.

I love my Triumph Tiger 800 2011, I bought mine second hand with only 10k kilometers on it 5 years ago, but since then I had to replace the stepper motor and now the starter is failing when it gets hot. I thought it was a bad battery at the beginning but then I started investigating and fining a lot of people complaining about this. Is there any other problematic parts on these motorcycles that I need to worry about in the future?

you dont need to disasambe the whole engine to do this if you have good hands and the right tools

How long did the job actually take in real time? I'm trying to figure out how much a shop would charge to do it.

Took me about 2.5 hours. I bet a shop would charge you 3 hrs labor.

That is a hell of a lot of work just to change the starter. I have an early Tiger and starter is a piece of piss to change. Dont like the new 800 it that is what it takes to change it. My Tiger has never let me down at 44k miles and 19 years old.

Hi. I have the same motorcycle model. Maybe you can help me out. I’ve been experiencing some issues with the engine start up. When I turn on the motorcycle in the morning it works just fine. But sometimes when I ride for 15 minutes or less and turn off the motorcycle. It just won’t start again. After several even the screen resets. The weird thing is that if I do a long stop and turn off the motorcycle for have an hour or more. The motorcycle turns on pretty easily. I’ve already check the battery and I know the battery is just fine. Could it be that the engine starter is damaged???

its definitely not your battery. I have the exact same issue and I hope I can resolve it with a new starter.

I would guess this may be your regulator rectifier. If it's on way out then it will not work / start when hot but once it cools down it will work ok. It's not an expensive thing to replace .

This is emerging as a common issue on the Tigers. I have 2016 Triumph Tiger XR 800 babied whole life. This happens all the time, it has stranded me in the woods in dangerous areas with no cell coverage. This is a piece of crap adventure bike that is unreliable and Triumph denies it. I read reviews before I bought, and they were good. Then it started happening and I dug deeper. RUN AWAY FROM TIGERS! NEVER BUY TRIUMPH TRASH - RUN AWAY TO AVOID BEING STRANDED MULTIPLE TIMES AND GET STUCK WITH $2000 REPAIR BILL THAT MAY NOT EVEN WORK - IMMOBILIZERS DONT WORK IN SUN, OR SENSORS GO OUT - HUGE REPAIR BILLS - THEY WILL GET SUED OVER THIS FOR SURE

I have the same problem with a 2013 Street Triple with 46k kms. I changed the regulator/rectifier. This did not solve the problem. Next, I'm going to remove the starter and have it rebuilt; see if that solves the problem.

Ciao Antonio, grazie al tuo video sto cercando di sostituire il motorino sulla mia Tiger800 abs del 2013. L’unica cosa che mi lascia perplesso è la compatibilità del Ricks 61-704 che dice: Compatibile con il motore cod. 612713 e successivi. Il mio è B55… ecc. cosa mi consigli di fare? Lo compro ugualmente?

@@stefanosolari5595 si ho risolto con quel modello di motorino. Va che è uno spettacolo. Il mio amico meccanico è riuscito a sostituirlo senza smontare il serbatoio. Poco più di mezz’ora di lavoro.. Ciao ciao

Speriamo di risolvere definitivamente 😁 P.S. dacci il numero del tuo meccanico...qua per smontare lo starter ti sventrano mezza moto 😆

Hey dude nice vid I wish I was as experienced as you 🙂anyways long story short I got a tiger 800 2011 model and it starts fine and then after a ride when it’s hot it won’t start at all I been riding around like this since the bike shop charged me 2100 au$ and I am so upset they won’t help me told me buy a start or motor now I can’t keep spending this much i am not very wealthy anyways hope someone can help it now won’t start at all please Help ?

Search "tiger heat soak" they are using poorly designed denso starters that have an issue with melting insulation

@@juanestebanbarquerochanto953 Nice tip. I actually did a rebuild of my starting motor and it cost pennies. but it took 6 hours. Not a pro. That tank removal was the worst part (as well as getting the starting motor out).
