I just got one after waiting for a month plus and it’s definitely not a AAA flame top ! It’s between a quilt top and a mess . I’ve been very patient waiting for this thing but it came factory sealed so this is straight from Gibson . Disappointing to say the least . First one had been repackaged to appear to be factory sealed but it wasn’t , that came local in MD . They couldn’t wait to ship it . I said no to open box and it was here the next day ! I’ll try one more time because I got it on sale for $2299 down from $2999 but if this is it , I’m out . The open box one looked better but if I buy new I want a new one ! Period . I hope the next one is a keeper . I love the color and the controls offer so many options to play but it has to be as advertised or it’s bait and switch . My second new Gibson , not a great impression . First one was a ‘61 SG from Sweetwater so I got to choose the exact one I wanted and it is gorgeous and plays like a dream ! Sounds great too , now this ordeal . 3 tries to get it right , I hope . Come on Gibson , you should be doing much better at those prices . Take care everyone ! Play on !

I can attest to the fact that the Southfield MI Guitar Center is overrun with subpar employees. Guitar Center has poor quality control and customer service in general but this store is worse than average. I bought a Trad Pro V a few years back and it came with scratches and the wrong knobs. I’ve had other experiences in which I had to return a guitar three times before I got one that wasn’t damaged. The only way I will shop at Guitar Center again is if they have a guitar I want that’s on sale for an insane discount. Even then, I might not buy from them.

The meter uses DC to measure resistance. Capacitors block DC voltage. If the circuit has a capacitor in series with the pickup to tame the highs, then won't get a reading with the meter.
@paulketchupwitheverything767
@paulketchupwitheverything767 13 күн бұрын
So the capacitor that's usually in a guitar tone control allows a resistance to be measured (approximately) at the jack socket because it 'bleeds' to earth and is therefore not in series? The few times I've checked the resistance of pickups typically they've not been installed.

Best overall review and demonstration of the Traditional Pro V that I have seen. Glad you were able to get the problem resolved and get the full review completed. I picked up a used 2019 Faded Wine Red of this guitar at GC for a really good deal. Too bad they did not have the 24 month deal going for the higher priced gear. Oh well, I love the guitar and it will keep me happy for years to come.

I’ve got one of these in the blueberry burst. Breathtaking top and colors, but I had all sorts of issues with all that crazy control panel stuff, all sorts of squealing and feedback and buzzing. So I committed an ultimate sin and gutted it and put fishman moderns in it. Blacked out all the plastics, swapped the pick guard for an LP Custom one I had, and now it’s my absolute favorite guitar. The compound radius fretboard makes these things incredible for my style.

I usually brush off anything that is a Guitar Center exclusive, but I got to try one of these a couple years ago and was surprised how much I liked it. The Tradbuckers sounded better than my old LP Standard burstbuckers. The dip switches give you so many tonal options, depending what amp you use it with. Long story short, it was way better than I expected. I actually prefer it over my Standard now.

I bought a pair of satin wine red Trad Pro V Les Pauls from Guitar Center. They were jacked up, too. The “customer return” was in better condition than the “new” one! I figured out the “new” one was actually a floor demo. The edges were chewed up (including the headstock) and one knob was an old crappy one from a different guitar. The customer returned one also had chewed up edges. I liked the neck, how they played, and the slick satin finish but they were 11 pounds each and beat up… so back to GC they went! 😂

I think it's misleading to open the video talking about the Traditional when discussing the Trad Pro series. Yes both use "Trad" in the name, but the Trad Pro was never really anything to do with the Traditional in the old range. It was always just a traditional looking Les Paul with modern features, starting all the way back with the original Trad Pro, then it's been revised a few times, hence now Trad Pro V. I always fancied the 2012-14 Trad Pro II as it came in some fun colours and wasn't a dealer exclusive as it is these days.

@@Trog Not only that but you repeatedly keep missing the point of coil taps - they are NOT supposed to give you single-coil or P-90 sounds but rather just a lower output humbucker! Think of it like this: Take any Gibson pickup with a hotter wound version, and coil tap engaged pads the output down to it's regular version counterpart, or even lower in theory. Back to coil splits - the reason why many do not like their sound for not being true single coil tone, is because they need to be run through 250k capacitors before heading to the output, which is what PRS does on their guitars I believe. Running them only through hardware designed for humbuckers may make them too shrill and trebly! Also, single coils are wound to be only single coils, while each coil for humbuckers are designed for the overall sound in series, which will also affect their sound when split! Also, the Transient Suppression is meant for use with modern guitarist setups such as digital modelers and computer amp simulation plugins where the overly bright sound of traditional Gibson pickups may cause additional unwanted pick noise and note attack. A lot of players were switching over when this circuit was designed, and we now have an entire generation of younger players whose guitar heroes' tones were all digital! Hope this helps! \m/

This is the 2nd run of the GC trad pro v. The first batch sold quickly where you could only get open box and resale market. The first run had flamed tops in worn cherry, blueberry burst and transparent ebony burst. The satin tops were desert burst, wine red and iced tea. The flamed tops (AAA and up) were $3199 and the satin were $2399. During the guitar-a-thon sales the flamed tops were $2399 and the satin were $1699. The blueberry actually had burstbucker pups instead of the tradbuckers. I actually picked up one each of the dessert burst, blueberry and ebony. Ended up keeping the trans ebony. It looked and sounded the best. It did cone with hanger rash though .typical of GC.... smh

I’m trying to get one of these currently . The first one claimed to be a new unit but was an opened box deal . Since I specifically asked for a factory new/sealed unit , I sent it back . Then waited for about a month , got a new unit but the top was NOT a AAA flame top ! Very disappointing and will be going back too . I hope the third time is a charm as my patience is starting to run thin . I really like this model and I love the Dark Purple Burst but for 3K , I will insist on a new unit with actual AAA flame top ! Fortunately , the reps I deal with are great so they’re very accommodating and try to get me where I want to be . Fingers crossed on number 3 ! I do have other interests but really want to close this issue out before moving on , otherwise , I will have too many irons in the fire 🔥 , so to say . Take care everyone and keep on rockin’ out !

How do they get both tap and split at the same time? To my knowledge you'll need two wires coming out of the pickup for split, and additional 2 for tap, and also normal hot and cold- that's 6 wires in total not including additional ground, and the quick connect system has only 5.

Thanks for sharing. I like the look of the ring less tops. But it would either have to be uncovered pickups or black chrome with matching hardware and likely a special model with all that. I've only had a couple of issues with GC . One was that I bought a demo model on a clearance sale and someone sold it out from under me. It was taking to long to ship it so I called the representative I usually deal with. I had all the information on the sale and he was able to find my order by its number and verified someone canceled my order and sold that guitar the very same day. He found another one sitting in stock and was able to ship it in a weeks time. I already had the clearance sale price and after asking they gave me another 20 % off . The guitar is an Epiphone Trad Pro III and has the split coils.but no additional special special electronics or dip switches. But when I got it the guitar appeared to have been hanging . It syltill had the clear plastic on the burstbucker pickups and there was some dust and build up on the fret nuts. I cleaned it up and replaced the strings and was good to go. The other issue i had was id bought a Squire Strat with black hardware and trem system. They didn't put the trem bar in with the shipment. When I called the store it came from the guy that answered said they were wondering where the trem bar came from that was on the table where they pack shipping items. I got it in a couple days .

Lucked out and got a nicer top on the second one. The lighter purple shows the figuring better. I used to get really annoyed at the very idea of a PCB in a guitar’s control cavity, but the versatility is admittedly pretty impressive, and those pickups seem to split and tap fairly well so the different tones are actually reasonably usable instead of just being options for options’ sake. I think I’m probably looking at Heritage instead of Gibson if I ever get another singlecut to keep my ‘07 Blonde Beauty Standard company, but I might have to think a little harder about that since there’s a used Trad Pro V with a nice top that I’ve seen floating around local Marketplace listings…

I got a purple burst LP direct from Gibson recently. That way you get 10% off and the guitar comes to you unplayed, in fact the case still stinks like paint it's so new. The guitar he first got was a return i'm sure. These days best to get it Direct which for me has been great for both fender and gibson. unplayed, perfect not a single mark. the electronics being modular is fine. i've got vintage guitars and the old fashioned solder thing is always a freaking problem, under heavy use it tends to fail over time, and it's so hard to fix correctly. As a regular player it's got to sound the same every time and so done with old crackly stuff, the odd grounding, etc. The complaint "modular means i can't change the pickups". Pro tip. Don't mess with the damn pickups. don't mess with the parts. Good guitars are fine, i play all sorts of tones with the burstbuckers they're Jim Dandy. As soon as you mess with that stuff you're down a rathole of endless repairs. one more thing, the great ones like American Made are built by hand. they are by definition not "perfect". They will have all sorts of "imperfections" if you look closely enough. This is a feature not a bug. An indonesian Jackson is perfect. They're made by machine. Get one of those if you like that vibe, not knocking it. But a great handmade american guitar is going to have imperfections to it. The first time i saw a real 59 LP i was like "damn". Not perfect to say the least.

Hey Trogly, for someone looking to get a first Gibson on a budget (looking at reverb), would you recommend Tribute over Modern or... none of them?

Get a 90s studio with ebony fretboard and call it a day - or a late 70s "The Paul"

That’s a beautiful guitar. I would have died for that guitar 20 years ago. I prefer more well ridden and broken in horses nowadays.

I would prefer to keep it in tap mode, but not because it sounds like a single coil. It just sounds like a better alternative than the split

That’s a good guitar. The electronic options are also really great. You don’t HAVE to use them. Out of phase particularly handy imo.

It should come with a blank truss rod cover. I'd definitely switch it to the blank one.

This is a really cool Les Paul. Surprised it's limited to a single retailer. Looks to kill and a nice mix of modern and traditional features.

I pick up a 2023 Trad Pro V in satin black from GC, at a great price $1250.00. Only thing is, I feel the pickups are a little Bright for a Gibson LP

My 2019 LP traditional in Tobacco burst is amazing. It's basically a Standard with a double A top instead of a triple A top. And it's heavy as F.

Maybe they can send the setting from a phone app then the change can be in real time and saved. 😮❤

I went to the guitar center in Toledo last week and was so unimpressed. Picked up no less than three 2k+ Les Paul's with mile high action and necks way out of adjustment. Didn't even bother plugging anything in. If no one there cares I won't either

Trog you need to do a program concerning modern electronics compared to original wireing, as today's new Gibson guitars R getting so far away from pot's cap's and good ol'e solder. I was shocked at the {module} inside a new Les Paul !
@ChrisEck13
@ChrisEck13 11 күн бұрын
They still use pots and caps, just not solder. But it's actually the opposite of what you're saying, they've went back to hand soldering on most guitars like the Standard. There's only a few that use a PCB, and this PCB actually uses 50s wiring.

@ChrisEck13 I think you missed the point here ! The modern circuit board style instrument's "R" let's say a module installed in the instrument with hard wired circuit boards, visibly they "R" quite different , I feel there is a difference in the output sound of these modern units ! as a busy repair guy I've stayed away from these guitars, just like a robot tuner, another fantastic Gibson save all invention ! NOT !!!
@ChrisEck13
@ChrisEck13 11 күн бұрын
@martinhiggs7027 as a "repair guy", you should know that a connection is a connection. Whether a pickup is connection to a pot with solder or a PCB makes no difference whatsoever in the output. As long as a connection is established there's no difference. The only arguable difference is reliability and ease of replacing a single component.
