I think you forgot the Vuelta where he literally dropped world class riders (including Roglic) in the rain. During this Giro were he smoked everyone during the first time trial. Classica San Sebastian where he dropped Yates who won all his prior races. Liege Bastogne Liege last year AND this year. Honestly there's no better rider than him. @@LoranMaes Putting only 40 seconds into Tao Geoghegan Hart, not exactly a renowned TTer is not exactly blowing everyone out of water. Thomas committed a pacing error and was also evidently out of form at the beginning of the Giro. While something obviously happened to Roglic’s TT this year (his shoulder surgery). He put sometime into a Roglic that is out of form follow his TDF injury last Vuelta. Good for him. By the time Roglic crashed out, he was already fading against Roglic. Remco is a massive one day talent for sure. But he is more WVA than Pog. His GT credentials are unproven as of now. I suspect he may have a recovery issue. I don’t know how he would perform in a late GT ITT. Overhyping him would not do him any good.
@MDP1702
@MDP1702 Жыл бұрын
@@suisinghoraceho2403 Tao's ITT's this Giro have been outstanding, definitely improved on this. Like he is riding the same level as Küng and Thomas, both good TT riders. Remco also put 15" into Ganna on 17km flat in that first ITT, that is not a little bit. His speed also was really high, thus it wasn't just others underprerforming. I created a small excell sheet to compare ITT performances and based on that this first Giro ITT was Remco's 2nd best ITT performance, only slightly behind the 2021 giro opening ITT, though considering this is a best performance for several other riders, that one had likely a lot better conditions. Ganna according to this comparison did his 4th best ITT in this 2023 first giro ITT. Ganna went faster than Remco's first ITT only 5 times in his career, all significantly easier stages (shorter + less vertical meters). *By the time Roglic crashed out, he was already fading against Roglic.* Roglic pushed better numbers last vuelta only once: 2 days after Remco crashed and could push on the pedals. Roglic didn't push significantly better that day, Remco just pushed quite some lower numbers compared to rest of that vuelta. *I suspect he may have a recovery issue. I don’t know how he would perform in a late GT ITT.* You say about the person who finished 3rd and 1st in WC the other side of the world 1 and 2 weeks after finishing and winning his first real GT. Ofcourse maybe there is a recovery problem, but so far nothing has proven that this would be the case.

@@MDP1702 Remco obviously was impressive last year in Spain. But c'mon I just want to see that show of force against the other BIG rivals over 3 weeks. My whole thing was about Grand tours. Phenomenal 1 day racer. His power seems unmatched. But then again like this year he wins Liege and Pog crash happens early. I don't wanna sound like a hater I'm just not ready to crown him best in the world tour like a lot of people seem to be doing. And also his TT is just insane. When was the last GC contender this strong at that? I can't think of anybody as of late than is head shoulders better than pretty much everybody? Armstrong in his era? I can't remember what he was compared to the specialist of that time.

One of the reasons cycle racing is so interesting to follow is that no one is dominant. On any day, any top-tier rider can beat another. Weather, course layout, team tactics etc. all play a role. If one rider were truly dominating all others, in all circumstances, it wouldn't be worth watching.
@TrueSportsLore
@TrueSportsLore Жыл бұрын
While that's true. We've seen in recent times how it's often between one or two riders at the top. Contador vs Froome. MvDP vs WvA. Roglic vs Pogacar. It feels like whenever Remco enters a race he doesn't have an equal (partially due to the fact he never races against Pogacar)
@rulifaller8474

@@TrueSportsLore He never races against any other of the top riders. No Pog, no Vingegard, no WVA, no MVDP, only sometimes Roglic, though unfortunately COVID prevented the first test against a really fit Roglic. You can also see WVA dominate everyone else very regularly, just like Remco does, but when he comes up against MVDP and Pog he all of a sudden looks very beatable. I am not saying Remco cannot beat these guys, but if he would race against them all the time he would not look dominant. But through some of his choices and a lot of coincidences he has actually never raced any of them at their bes, all of his very impressive wins have come against opposition that they other guys at their best beat comfortably as well.

He has done so a few times: Pogacar at WC, San Sebastian twice.Overall if you count GC races (ie. TA '22 here) as one race, Pogacar finished ahead of Remco 6/15 times (2 of which was Remco as domestique for someone else), though obviously also some bad circumstance for Pogacar when Remco finished in front of him (LBL wrist, last CSS after hard tour, ...). Against VdP Remco finished before him 3 times out of 6, both having 2 DNF's in those 6 races (VDP last WC and Nokere koerse, Remco WC '19 as domestique and Lombardia '20 with his crash). VA has generally been better than him in their clashes, only 2 of 9 times did Remco finish in front of him (twice Remco won that race). Though it has to be said that the majority of these races were also in VA's favour (kind of races + Remco's first year and his '20 post crash return and 1 time as VA's domestique). The 2 clashes (and wins) were in the last +- year (LBL and WC as teammate).

@@TrueSportsLore he has barely won major world tour stage races, all the races you mention in which he did win he did so against a weak field, when he does win a major stage races he never has any dominant stage wins, just barely edging out oponents or even not winning a single stage (UAE Tour this year). He has potential but right now his palmares are insignificant compared to Pogacar's. Remco never dropped a top tier rider ever. He never dropped a vingegaard, a pogacar, a VDP, a Van Aert off his wheel. Left giro without symptoms, doesn't want to compete in TdF or Vuelta, does Swiss tour instead of dauphiné, I think this guy is just so scared of losing against proper riders. thats really a bad excuse, he is already recovered from his Covid a few days ago so there is time enough to do another altitude training camp, on top of that he prepared for the Giro, which he only ride for 7 days, so that preparation can carry over to the tour as well. Pogacar is the one who has less time to prepare with his injuries. I really think its a sign of weakness he doesnt ride the tour. That would make this year a really bad year, only riding like 10-15 days. If he doesnt becoem world champion its a failed season for sure, specially when ppl apparently call him the rider who dominates cycling.

@@peterderidder9922 i didnt mean you made a bad excuse but i think he did (tho i think it mainly was Lefevre who decided this). I know he won all his youth races, sometimes even minutes ahead of 2nd place. I just think he (again i mean Lefevre) are to careful with him, eventho he is very young. What i mean with tht is you never know what will happen in the future, it could be this year will be Pogacar weakest year in the Tour de France (cuz of his injury) for years to come, or maybe Vingegaard will improve lots more. Even a new cycling talent can rise the next years who is again a level above the rest. So you never know, maybe looking back in like 10 years he will conclude this year would have been his best year to win the Tour. Ofcourse it could also be Evenepoel grows more then his competitors and he will be winning many Tour de Frances with ease, but you cant know what happens in the future. It could also be he will be like Damiano Cunego, who was great in Grand Tours early on but after a few years he never could repeat that again. Tho i dont expect this with Evenepoel.

for me you have to make distinction between one day racing and grand tour racing. in grand tour racing for me Remco is tied for 3rd place with Roglic, but below Vingegaard and Pogacar (the tour is so much bigger and harder then the other 2 grand tours and its not for nothing Remco doesnt ride the tour, its because he thinks he cant compete with those 2). In one day racing i would say Remco is 3-5th in the world, for sure behind Pogacar and Van der Poel and maybe even behind van Aert. But if you combine the 2 disciplines then Remco probably would be number 2 behind Pogacar, but its hard to compare.
