Yes so true. You have to let go of the fear of vulnerability. If you are strong and balanced in spirit you will have protection. But ppl are not taught psychology and biology chemistry from 6 years old. The school curriculum is indoctrination. Work ..pay taxes ...die.. Ñeeeexxxxxxtttttt. And repeat generation after generation. If it was clearly understood by everybody that it was neither a tax, nor mandatory, I'm sure a large number of people would cancel straight away. I'm with you ! I've cancelled my TV Licence a few days ago. I chose to do it the hard way through their website, as I saw it as a fun challenge being sent round in circles there😆. They even cancelled my direct debit themselves (I confirmed they did this through the bank). Now I've joined the official cancellation statistics, and am proud to be another number!

The BBC is a public holding company (i.e. we own it through the licence fee) yet we have no say in how it is run or how (if ever) it will be disposed of. If it is privatised will it be demutualised and every licence holder become a shareholder or more likely as a revenue collection system is in place the fee will be reduced with the money going to government. With the recent merger of BBC worldwide and BBC studios the BEEB already commands a healthy income and Freeview (also part owned by the BBC) is merely a platform which they can choose to use if they wish.

"Alternative funding" sounds like a compulsory broadcasting tax to me. Licence payers OWN the BBC infrastructure, buildings etc, so the new BBC would have to pay for them or are we expecting the BBC to be given billions of pounds worth of kit.

There is an interesting story in the Spectator (online) about the number of MPs who claim back their TV licence fee from expenses. "Which MPs are expensing their licence fee?" Among them is Labour MP Lucy Powell (Dorries' opposite number) who has been extolling how good value the licence fee is, and is worried about the "end of the BBC as we know it". Not only do we have to pay our own licence fee (if we want for example to watch live sport) but we have to pay for the MPs licence fees too. Snouts in troughs folks.

It shouldn't be a surprise, but I'm absolutely blown away by the sheer greed of the BBC for suggesting that the British public should be forced to pay for their content via taxation. Not only is this incredibly unethical, but it defeats the object of cancelling the fee in the first place. The big question is, why are the BBC allowed to make massive external profits from content that's funded by licence payers in the first place. Perhaps you could make this the topic of a future video John? It's baffling that the media never mention this.

There are OAPs in my area who can't afford heating because the BBC protection racket harassed them into parting with their only available cash - their Winter Heating Allowance. Add that to swingeing increases in power bills and the future isn't bright for many of our most vulnerable.

I'm like you, I'll believe it when I see it. My biggest problem with the TV licence, besides it existing, is that it's for the BBC, yet they think they can monopolize the other channels too, so you can't watch any live tv on any channel and then there's the wording on their letters. They shouldn't scare people into thinking they're breaking the law if they watch any other channel if it's 'live', even if that channel used ads. Stop the scare tactics.

When I was about 20, I was taken to court and fined 2000 pounds for not having a TV licence. It was years later before I learned that I did not need one, nobody ever asked if I used my TV to watch TV... It's a scam, always has been

Could you imagine having a mdeia tax or put on the council tax, that would be a nightmare, it would be evenly more unfair than the current model, if people do not have a tv but still have to pay via internet or council tax, even though food and energy bills are going through the roof, watch tv or have a full belly and be warm? just put adverts on all their channels and radio they would probably earn more anyway, I would imagine all their over paid staff would have to take a massive pay cut, they could invest in putting their rubbish tv channels behind a pay wall, they just want the gravy train to continue.

She said no bailiffs because when you get a fine and don't pay it, the courts usually get bailiffs for recovery of non payment of court fines. If that process fails, its back to court.

If the BBC want people to pay the license fee they should dress their goons up as Jimmy Saville. I would buy two licences just to be safe and I don’t even have a TV. I would even continue to buy a license even after it’s abolished just to protect me.

If i was the BBC i would be looking into subscription today not in 2027 as that will be too late. Knowing them though they will want to milk every penny up until then.

If the BBC have a say in negotiations I reckon they will go subscription + ads as that will make them the most money. If they accept state funding with no ads that will restrict them and they won't want that. So fingers crossed we don't end up with a tax!

I do think that letting them go subscription only is the wrong path, I think it's unfair to allow the BBC to become a solely commercial entity that would own by default all the publicly paid for catalogue of content, equipment and real estate of the BBC, probably worth a few billion. I believe they should still have to provide one or two public access channels that are funded by either advertising and/or a subscription arm that the bbc runs and makes money from (like they already do with britbox). New content going on the pay for service and a few months or a year down the line it ends up on the public access channel.

I haven't had a TV License for 6 years. I moved house 5 years ago, and they still send letters to 'The Occupier'. Never had anyone knock on the door.

I don't think a lot of people will forget the "U turn" on free licences for the over 75s. The present announcement is one thing, but I think there's plenty of scope for "wait and see what actually happens". The BeeB has been around for a considerable time, as long as the Royal Charter is in place, it ain't going anywhere, and whilst it's around, guess who the govt are going to try and make pay for it?
