In another vehicle I had a tablet setup similar to yours. I have a 2014 C7 corvette, thinking about a similar setup, however, it seems like having a tablet mounted there 1) might overheat if left in the car 2) would/could interfere with airflow with the vent that's behind it. Perhaps the 8" is no problem. I'm thinking about adding a 12" one there. Thanks for you advice and input.

Todd, try this, though I'm not an expert: 1. Remove the SIM card. 2. Activate "hotspot" (some call it tethering) on your phone(almost all Androids have it). 3. Open wi-fi on the tablet and connect to the phone (probably only a one time ever operation; I'm not positive). Now, if my theory is correct, the tablet now has Internet, which it draws from the phone, which uses the phone's own SIM card. You would need your phone with you (though you possibly always carry it); you would need to have hotspot turned on; but you'd save the ~$15 every month if I'm correct. You might try this experiment. If you get that far and it works, run the free app "speedtest" both with this setup and the original setup to confirm if there's any performance decline.

On the other hand, with the extra SIM card, you have really two phones which may come in handy in some circumstances. In particular, paying for another SIM means your tablet can serve as a live (activated, ready to use) emergency backup phone, if the hand phone is lost, unavailable, or fully fails itself.

Hi Bill, Yes, Hotspot would work. I use it sometimes with my phone while RVing. It's just kind of cumbersome because you always have to go into your phone settings to turn it on. It would definitely save $15 a month. -Todd
