A long time ago I was playing under 14.5's rugby in chilly Christchurch. Our team were bottom of the ladder and were set to play against one of the best teams in the tournament. We had lost to these guys 60 - 5 earlier in the year, and we had arguably got worse since then. To our surprise we were actually winning 7-5 at half time. Our defense was holding up, the forwards were occasionally even winning rucks and at one point I had a full field try-of-your-dreams scrubbed just before half time because I was illegally pushed before I could regather the ball over the line. For the second half our coach rotated Ryan and Jake into the backline, two of the smallest and youngest players on the team. Not only was Ryan less than 5 foot tall but he couldn't run and he definitely couldn't tackle. I remember the opposition's 6ft tall outside backs running at him non-stop and simply running around him as he pretended like he was ever a chance of stopping them. Jake wasn't much better and if he even managed to get close to making a tackle he just melted right off them. So many leaks in the defense and the final score ended up being 65-10 to them. The point I'm making is that I think the Welsh forwards are actually pretty solid, but if your backs can't tackle you're going to get styled on...and the welsh backs can't tackle.

Always beware of a wounded animal. Recent form and results obviously favours the Springboks by a huge margin. But this Wales side is definitely better than what last week and their losing streak would suggest. By just having a few things fall into place, this Welsh side can be a lot better. Also, Gatland has always been able to pull up a strategy that would cause the most frustrations to the Boks. No matter how much better our team looked on paper, they've been able to hold the game close. There's that, and the fact that after their woeful performance last week, Wales will want to bring it with all their might in order to prove to their supporters that they won't quit. So while this could turn into a proper obliteration, I don't think it will. I think the Welsh boys will be brave and front up and still be in the game come halftime. Only after the bomb squad starts getting into their stride, do I see the Boks truly put this game away, by a margin of 15-20. ... Or, you know, this could get really ugly. Something like the rigby equivalent of the film _Hostel._ Let's rather be positive, shall we?
@clibo14 сағат бұрын
Agree with you, the Springboks don't typically win by huge margins. So if Wales just goes for it and plays with high energy, disruptive who knows. Maybe they can create panic and mistakes in the Boks.
@SherryTakhalo5054 сағат бұрын
To be fair, I just don’t see it. Yes the wounded animal analogy works for team that has it in their reserve, but I just don’t see it this time. I hope I’m wrong and wales do have the reserve to put up a fight though.

@@clibo1 If they go with England's type of tactic, they'll keep the game closer than most people would think. Eventually they'll tire and that is when the Boks will put a hurting on them. Or that's the way I see it

@@SherryTakhalo505 same here. I don't think anyone wants to see Wales go belly up after 20 minutes...but what we want to see and what reality decides to do might be two different things. I'll hope you're wrong as well, but I would also very open to an "I told you so" if you're right

Boks by more than 25, I reckon. I just cannot see the Welsh breaching their defence more than a couple of times, and that Bok bench is brutal. The last quarter could get nasty. I also think Adam Beard is a huge loss for Wales. He never has a bad game, and he does the kind of things that mess with the Boks' traditional gameplan (contesting lineouts, disrupting mauls, irritating the forwards). They're definitely going to miss him.

I see a lot of fellow Welsh fans defending Gatland and putting all of the blame on the WRU, and whilst a big portion of the blame goes to the WRU absolutely, no way is Gatland blameless. He's a 1 trick pony with old tactics and he's not getting the best out of this group of players. We look worse than we did in the 6 nations. I understand he did good things for us the first time around, but that's in the past. We need a younger and hungrier coaching staff, but who that consists of, I don't know. Sad times!
@TwoCentsRugby2 сағат бұрын
Yeah man it's definitely a mix aye. I don't buy the "just don't have the players" thing. Not saying Wales should be #1 in the world or anything, but yeah I think there's more in the squad than Gats is currently getting out of them

I do hope that the Boks can really stretch their legs in this one however. I agree with the general feel out there that the Boks have been cruising on this tour, not really hitting any high revs. It's actually cudos to the Scots and Brits for putting the pressure on and not allowing them to getting into their stride, to some extent, but I'm hoping to see the Boks be ruthless and wrathful this weekend. World Rugby haven't changed enough laws to nerf the Boks' game yet. 🦾 We need put some more fear in them before the year ends.
