Yeah, exactly. In the Summer of 2003, when the draft was, the Pistons did not yet have Rasheed Wallace. As you pointed out, they traded for him midway through the 2003-2004 season, so they definitely weren't thinking of his successor, considering he wasn't even on the team at that point

Okay, I agree that Darko was a mistake, but drafting him lead to the pistons winning the title. You actually made a mistake in your commentary. I am a longtime pistons fan and sheed was not on the team when he was drafted. Sheed came much later in that season during the February trade deadline. The reason for trading for Sheed is because the Pistons were struggling with the starting frontcourt of big ben and elden campbell. They needed the added scoring and traded for sheed which opened up the floor for everyone else. Darko was drafted in June of '03, Sheed was acquired in Feb of '04.

I see the Melo situation differently. Detroit was a veteran franchise that would have shaped Melo as a opposed to having him JUST get buckets. Melo had shown at Syracuse that he could be a willing passer, but I think playing with a championship ready team would have brought more of that team oriented play out of him. When he got to the Nuggets he did exactly what they needed him to do, which was score, and I think that's what put him in the head space of "score and score often" mindset.

I'd say those 3 played right in the midst of their prime. Even Dwade. His body was never going to last, but Bosh and Lebron were primed. That's still one of the most unfortunate things to happen to my basketball fandom. I hated seeing them join up like that. It ruined the entire East, there were no more classic duels between Wade and Bron(in their prime) and made Bosh's superstar potential vanish. He was the first AD! Then every other superstar followed suit and you have what you see today. Couldn't rock with either of em ever since. Had the Pistons taken Bosh, they would've won 3 straight.

I'm Serbian, and this clip is quite wrong about Darko, because I know his story. His biggest stunt was himself, he had limitless potential, he could have been great shot blocker, good passer, he could have been good shooter. The moment he came into the league, they immediately wanted him to change his game, just to play with his back to the basket, but just that wasn't his game. Then his playing time was too small. Even when they played him, there were no plays called for him. So he went partying, drinking, not trying at all to improve. He was just impatient

It’s easy criticize when you’ve never gotten close to playing in the NBA. NBA teams can be brutal to players. They should get more blame for ruining a lot players career

I don't know but I feel like the teams Darko played for weren't really believing in him, when they saw that he didn't develop rapidly they just gave up on him

@#LoSLakersFan 28 You are absolutely right. Here is a link to an SB Nation article with Darko explaining the difference between Euroleague and NBA player development. www.sbnation.com/nba/2016/3/24/11299762/darko-milicic-blames-youuth-cruel-nba-system-for-his-bad-career
