Hello from Canada, yes import is complex here but societies, local orchid companies organize international orders regularly. Also when we can travel to the US we can carry over 50 hybrid orchids under a houseplant exception but this is not commonly used. Great videos and acquisition!
@TheOrchidRoom4 жыл бұрын
That's good! Unfortunately a different story with the UK, sounds like your import laws may be a little more flexible than ours even. From next year all EU orders will require phytosanitary and import permit registration. I can only speak to what the regulations are here, other countries all have different laws so hopefully this encourages everyone to look up their countries regulations before importing.

Hi Loretta! I was pretty excited and nervous for these ones, so happy they arrived OK, I have heard very mixed things about plants condition upon arrival from this seller! Thanks for watching along with the unboxing! It's very exciting getting a new species. What sort of orchids do you like to grow? There isn't too much to know about me, I'm quite boring. But to sum it up- Hi, my name is Annabel, and I am an Orchaholic XD It started when I started my PhD, and I can't stop, they now have their own room of the house- my boyfriend tolerates them. I also like cats, birds, nature, aggressively devouring books, and computer games :-) I am in the final year of my PhD, just got a slight research extension due to lab shutdowns. As to how I learned about orchids, pretty much spending all my spare time researching them, and testing out new things to try and learn their optimal conditions and preferences for my climate XD Also a significant addiction to online orchid shopping... Thanks for commenting Loretta, and thanks for stopping by :-)

genus Thelymitra are the bluest orchids (crinita probably the bluest of them but they're all pretty blue) Yes, I've had bad experiences with Ecuagenera. Two orders had missing plants and trying to get them was a hassle. The one plant that came in dead they immediately credited. I mean, it isn't all bad. I received a couple of nice Phrags, an enormous Zygo and the Pescatoria wallisii (one of the missing plants) is looking fantastic and I'm happy with it despite the headache of actually getting it to me. And, the entire reason I ordered from them, Neomoorea wallisii is doing well. I'd definitely recommend them for Phrags, they seem to do those really well and the size plants you get for the price is excellent. Good to see you got two nice plants.I think the business model they've had to adopt due to COVID makes them more accessible to more people. I'd love to try the Cleisocentron but I don't think I could keep them cool enough.
@TheOrchidRoom4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael! 💙 Seems very hit or miss, I wonder if it's bracty orchids that end up rotting? I wanted one of their miltoniopsis species, but decided against it, thinking that would probably be a very dead plant upon arrival! I think the new business model makes them way more accessible and I hope they continue it after Covid! By then though we will have left the EU trade agreement, and that will be a whole other nightmare with Phyto and import permits 😿
@michaelmccarthy40774 жыл бұрын
@@TheOrchidRoom Hard to say, Paula bought some Miltoniopsis from them and they were in good shape. The Odm nobile I bought is so so, but that's on me for buying a cool grower in July. I guess you better order now while you can!

It's tough to know then- just luck I suppose!? A few have commented here that their plants are rotted from the same set of exports. Based on this order I would order again for sure, but there is always the risk that you'll be the one with the dead plants on arrival with these guys I guess.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with importing your plants! It's the same thing with my country :/ though I won't be ordering overseas anytime soon, I made a bit of research on how to import plants to my country. The sites were also not as straight forward and they mostly imply that the said requirements should only be done if the ordered plants are for business purposes.
@TheOrchidRoom4 жыл бұрын
Hi Angela! They don't make it easy do they... I do understand why, but at the same time, surely the CITES and Phyto are the most necessary things... You would think maybe they would try and make it a bit easier for individuals to order plants from different regions. But there are probably a whole list of things I don't understand about that system, that I'm sure there are good reasons for. I have recently registered with the DEFRA imports system as a business, as when the UK's exit from the EU and trade agreement is finalised, we will have to start 'Importing' from EU nurseries, with all the extra documentation, and some extra costs. They seem to be trying to make the system easier at least, in preparation. I'm trying to get my head around it now, and maybe get some flasks in.

Congrats on your cleisocentron! Looks like they both take after the gokusingii with semi-terete leaves and spacing. Flower spikes tend to come between the leaf joints(where the leaf meets the stem) if that helps determine if they are roots vs spikes. I’m still pretty new to them too. As for Ecuagenera, I got my first order recently and it was perfect...but we were having a heat wave so the acclimation process was rougher than usual and had a few dried leaves 😄

Thanks! I love them! They definitely aren't roots, they could be keikis but I suspect spikes 🙂 I hope they adapt OK, it would be lovely if they kept the spikes, if that's what they are, but if not then hopefully they get new roots down without issue! I hope yours adapts OK!

It's definitely worth investigating- if you can get it right then it will open up alot of options for you! It is complicated, but I'm sure once you've done it a few times it maybe seems easier. @TheOrchidRoom4 жыл бұрын
Hope they do OK for you!🙂 Most did very well, the gongoras basically died still in the flask though, and the laelia/ sophronitis hybrids are near dead now.... they just hated me. Too small to begin with, and then the moss and rot. Some of the smaller catts struggled a bit with the move. Mainly the smaller seedlings struggled the most. Honestly, I am saving an update for a long compilation video to try to make their journey easier to follow. I get alot of comments from people coming in mid way through the seedling stuff, really confused and asking for updates, which I've actually already done and linked in the description when they comment, but they don't see that. So as you've probably noticed, I've been holding off. I kinda wanted everything to be in one place, to minimise the number of people who aren't able to track the updates easily... because the updates are the most important thing! it means my phone storage space is full though of random filmed footage that's going to be a nightmare to put together 😅 It's tough to coordinate, I try to put things in playlists and link, but not many see them. For example! My most viewed video is me putting my vandas in semi-hydro. Specifically, the glass vases! Those are the Vandas that did the worst! Which didn't work well, and I've mentioned in a few videos recently that they need more aeration and are now in pots with ventilation and are finally doing well. But I need to make a big proper, all in one place update for that and paste it all over that glass vase video! I wish KZbin had a more easy navigation option to direct people to the updates. It makes it tough to know how best to do it all! 🙂

What's your environment like? For any rootless orchid, place in a medium light setup with no direct sun, keep temps intermediate (18-25C), extremes will stress them as will bright sunlight, and try and keep relative humidity around them high. You can do this by using humidity trays, or potting them lower in the pot, just sitting them on top of the bark. You can try foliar feeding, first thing in the morning ideally so they can dry before night, Cleisocentron will have stomata open at night only probably, since they're adapted to save water, so foliar feeding during the day would be ineffective anyway. If it has any roots, add seaweed into its nutrient water. If it doesn't, add seaweed into a foliar feed. Seaweed contains plant growth hormones that can stimulate new root production. Good luck!

Looks like it mainly took after the Cleisocentron but with purple, neo-esque flowers. I think they must have used a purple flowered neo- would be tough to get the blue to carry through. I think a different parent may be needed to keep the blue colouration... either a white (but maybe that would wash out) or an already near- blue... Rhynchostylis coelestis?
@jdp89694 жыл бұрын
The Orchid Room The Orchid Room Ah yes, It does look predominantly purple. Agree, a white one would probably produce a blue gray flower. 😁. Yes, I think a Rhynchostylis coelestis would do. Or a coerulea x coerulescens hybrid parent would bring out the best blue. Hmm maybe you can take on the challenge of making one 😇😇😇

Yes, very 😢 The box of Vandas would have been cheap, if I had got them... but for a learning experience, it was an expensive one! They also will not give any flexibility or accept appeals. You make the mistake, tough, those are the rules... Which I do understand. I now have it in writing from them in very clear terms 😅 So hopefully at least sharing it may help keep someone else from making that mistake! Unfortunately I may need to get my head around some parts of it following the UK leaving the EU, there is a new system they are putting in place to register to notify them of any incoming plant imports, which hopefully will be clearer...
