What you are doing is a tremendous public service. Every public official in a 50 mile radius should see what you are doing. Millions of us pass by these waterways every day totally oblivious to it all. Officials should not simply say they are for the environment. You are giving them a long laundry list of goals to set and complete to leave this world better than they found it. Everybody, wherever you are: flood the mayors' offices with phone calls demanding them to watch all these videos and start projects to clean these places up and bring people to them to enjoy them.

Wow, just, WOW 🎯 I agree. It's a shame that we allow our waterways to be mistreated. Like you said, out of sight, out of mind. It's sad. I love and appreciate your comment. Thank you for watching.

OH my Goodness!!!!!! I can't believe you went under the Union Port Bridge. You are in my stomping grounds. They built a new draw bridge and overpass for the cars. The Amazon Building used to be the Whitestone drive in back in the 70's. The Shell gas station is closed. They just opened Dunkin Donuts next door to it. I graduated from that High School. Gross in that water😵‍💫🤮🤢. My kids and I used to walk our dog along where you had lunch. He loved going over those big rocks. Brings back memories and I have a picture there, my daughter and our long gone dog, Chewy. Thank you for this vlog and stay safe. Oh I hope you sprayed alcohol and used antibacterial soap.

Spent most of my life in that neighborhood. The 3 tall smoke stacks are a no longer in use NY Sanitation incinerator. , The construction is the Unionport drawbridge. It had become a major chokepoint in traffic and was being rebuilt ( while keeping it open ) . I left The BX in 2020 but I think it had been under construction since around 2016. At the end of the creek there was once 2 home heating oil companies who used to get deliveries via barges and small tankers. as a kid, I grew up watching airplanes and watching tugboats from my window. Schildwachter Oil used to receive oil from barges and small self propelled tankers on Westchester Creek. They were located at the head of the Creek. Hey Matt I thought of an idea if you would consider it.. you know how people have bike packing trips across the US or up and down the coast? Perhaps you can do a multi day kayak packing trip up or down the coast to whichever destination and vlog each day as a new episode? Can maybe also by up the Hudson and camping along the way or along the Connecticut coast or down the coast to the mid Atlantic or something. Definitely extreme and you'd need to plan, but maybe a small tent with a few small supplies in your kayak and time it right.. just thinking it would def be a journey we'd all follow along!

Omg the rat at the end 😂 typical NYer. I came across your videos a few weeks back when u kayaked the Bronx River. I’m a lifelong NYer born in Manhattan raised in the Bronx and I never got to appreciate the outdoors with the exception of hanging out in front of our building or the local park ( mainly in the 80s and 90s) and now with my young nature loving son we live in Westchester and I’ve discovered that I too love the outdoors. I try to make the most of nature on the weekends with our son and I’m not sure if I could kayak any time soon I hope to try it someday. Thanks for the new to me perspective on NYC’s nature.

Enjoying your videos!! We have been canoeing everything in Metro Detroit a few decades now, it is always amazing how once on the river you can feel nature and connection.. Those boat houses are great and similar to many I painted in a massive Detroit river mural i had made in the 00's.. One of the great aspects to them is you do not have to pay taxes.. Always wondered though how the bathroom plumbing worked.. I remember they were starting to spot beavers in the Brooklyn or Bronx waterways it was in the news a while back hopefully they are still going strong.. We have seen a few coming back in Metro Detroit..
