Yay 😀 a new video! What a great way to start a Monday morning when you need to go to work at your office day job to pay your bills and to buy more art supplies 😂❤❤❤❤ my summer actually has been creative to my amazement, I am learning to let go of perfectionism and rigidity in my art and started painting with more looser strokes and trusting in the creative process. I am really liking what I am discovering 😊

Oh I love that! Couldn't have put it better myself, the releasing perfectionism and rigidity and leaning into trust. Exactly what I am craving

Lovely, you always inspire me to tidy my studio up 😂. We had a fabulous time in Arizona, saw so much changing landscape it was a real treat and I’ve taken so many photographs I don’t know where to start! I was given loads of old slate roof tiles last year, so I’m going to be recreating some of those landscapes onto the slate. Unfortunately I only have one week left before it’s back to school, 😢 but I know I’ll be in the studio in the evenings so that’s ok. The allotment is going well, getting back on top of the weeds after being away 😂 but we are there tomorrow morning to continue, got rained off the last few days, and my mum was looking after the greenhouse veggies for us, so they are happy. One thing I did do, was paint two Koi and have printed them off as small prints, and into frames, to take to the next farmers market and craft fair in the next village next month, will see how they go…looking forward to the next video! ❤

Welcome back from the desert! Gosh, time flies by so fast. That is a fabulous idea about painting landscapes on slate tiles, I've been painting on some wood and liking the change of surface a lot. Am about to clean up my dead summer beds and think about Fall... greens, at least I'll do some greens. And do you live in a village? (The one next to the craft fair village.) That is another escapist dream of mine, village life. Good luck with back to school madness! xj

@@studioxjess yes, we live in a village, on the outskirts of our (tiny) city! It has its perks and downsides like everywhere I guess. I’m trying not to think about Monday…😭😂 I painted small wood slices last year as Christmas tree decorations, that are always fun. 😁❤️

Happy you are making videos again. I love the florals that you have been making! I usually make pebble art but have put that on pause a bit and have been having lots of fun working with black ink in abstract paintings. Allowing myself to have total freedom.

I was thinking of you the other day as I attended a meditation group in Switzerland where I currently am on holiday. I, too, am in a kind of fallow field mood. Resting. Noticing. Listening. Knitting. And while I know change is on the horizon, for now, I am trying g to just relax into each moment knowing that everything I absorb during my holidays will eventually coalesce into ideas, paths, new opportunities. Love your gift of sharing your journey to the world. To me. Thank you.

I just came back from a two week Trip that I made to Croatia with my family. ❤ so wonderful! It was just a very small town, but there was some art to watch and a lot of Inspiration to soak in😊 In August I tey to calm down a bit, as the last months habe been very busy, but I am doing a lot of brainstorming these days, writing a lot of notes. Congrats on your wonderful piece of art which you had/have in the galery. And I can totally relate to the wish of living in the midst of Mother natures playgroung❤or shall we call it her Studio 🥰

I enjoyed seeing your fine abstract work. We have had a similar path in art. I was a commercial artist, illustrator/ designer for a major corporation for many years that had hundreds of clients, and I freelanced as well. I wrote and illustrated some children's books too. I saw that you did that type of thing as well. I always try to defy labels and even the word artist throughs me off because I just seem like a builder or something. I simply make things that are artful. The background of forty plus years in design helps me as a painter of modernist abstract work which is relatively new for me and I'm loving it. Do you feel that your background is the foundation of your modernist work? There's a lot of design to it. I was primarily in my fine art work a contemporary realist painter that switched over to abstract and still trying to figure out if it's a season that will change. Abstract work fascinates me in decision making of when to stop and not overwork things. In realist work everything is planned out and generally I know pretty much what the finish will look like, and abstract is the opposite of that which I find joy in.

Yes! I can relate to all of that, I have done so many different things and my path is constantly evolving, so the labeling thing has always been a challenge. They all just seem a bit too tight. I do think my background feeds into my design-esque abstracts... I am actually craving a bit of a break from the more modernist stuff at the moment and moving into a more painterly way... we shall see what happens :D Thanks for saying hello!
