Not a popular opinion in Van Halen circles, but Ed did "show" or heavily influenced the hair metal guitarists of the 80's ( minus guys like Randy and a few others, who had their own style to begin with) but some guitarists like Joe, Vai and a few others took what Ed did and went further - no shame in it.

Van Halen was the last of the rock guitar icons. As for Satriani, "Satch Boogie" was a shameless rip-off of Billy Gibbons and Van Halen. He didn't do squat in Deep Purple and played with Mick Jagger on a completely forgettable record. I'd rather listen to Rick Derringer or Tommy Bolin any day over Satch or Vai.

If Satch is more versatile than Edward was, it is in part because Satch spent most of his career in other people's bands. He had to learn their music. Edward was the primary songwriter in Van Halen; he developed his own style.

I became a Van Halen fan as a young teenager during the Roth era, their sound and style with the original line up was just so different and awesome. After Dave left, Michael and Sammy became hired guns and the band did an admiral job but the sound and attitude was not the same anymore. It's been forty years, just let it go people.

The sooner Satch breaks away from Sammy Belchodo the better off things will be. He surrounds himself with talent, leaches off it,then runs his mouth while we all just shake our heads. I'm gonna leave it with one final line that Edward told Wolfie years back when he found out he was making his own record and wanted him to do his own thing. Hagar would be wise to learn from this. "Play your own shit! Not mine, play your own!"

Satch is the amongst the first generation of rock guitarists that took a bunch of other guitarist's styles and mish-moshed them together into a bland, safe style without adding anything original. Now they all do it. Same thing happens in every musical genre. Jazz is the same, guitarists have been creatively dead for a while.

And for all the Hagar followers who praise his vocals, this is a good time to remind everyone how average he really is in comparison to Ian Gillan of Deep Purple, Ronnie James DIO, Dave Meniketti of Y & T, Rob Halford of Judas Priest, David Coverdale, Eric Adams of MANOWAR, Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden, the late GREAT Bon Scott and let’s also include Brian Johnson, Robert Plant, Ronnie Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Brad Delp of Boston, Steve Perry of Journey, Paul Rogers of Bad Company, Joe Lynn Turner, Lou Gramm of Foreigner, Billy Squier, all the vocalists in Kansas, YES, Billy Idol, OZZY Osbourne,Pat Benatar, Ann Wilson of Heart, Benjamin Orr of the Cars, so many other talented musicians and especially, in his prime , the greatest frontman of Van Halen and the 1980s, the inimitable - DAVID LEE ROTH ! Just a little more insight, detailing the mediocrity of Ham Hagar. 😂 Another great upload Ralph - thank you again for exposing this narcissistic liar . Oh and Sammy Hagar sucks. Have a great day and listen to classic rock artists that matter.

Sammy was not a good fit for Van Halen in the first place. A lot of the Satriani’s and Vai’s of the world aren’t songwriters and lack personality. Eddie was in a band and was creative. Sammy is talking out of his ass. They should have broke up after Roth left with 1984.

It's going on nearly 40 years of consistent cringe spewing from the mere presence of Sammy Hagar for me. My stomach dropped when I heard he joined Van Halen back in 1985, and my worst fears were realized when I started to hear the songs from the 5150 album on the radio. It was a heartbreak for me because I was too young to see them play live when Dave was in the band, and THIS abomination calling itself Van Halen was what I had to witness! NO THANKS! I walked away in disgust at that point and have never looked back since. The same way I did with Def Leppard and Kiss all around the same time. I still play and enjoy the early albums of course, but Sammy's petty insults on top of the injury he's already caused to the legacy of Van Halen is totally disgusting! I think Mike, Joe and co should walk away from this now with the last shred of dignity they have left, and try to forget they were ever on team BELCHER!

I’m still waiting to see a video of MeanStreet after calling out Joe to play a song they weren’t gonna play……what a tool. Satch can play…and I’m glad he didn’t try to be EVH, as he couldn’t. But….Vic was playing Summer Nights without a Trans Trem on tour with Sam, which is another reason he got Satch allegedly. He’s just a joke. Dave’s out there living his life, and not trying to make a buck off his old band. Sam just won’t shut his mudder-fawwwking mouth! Which is making me truly dislike the man. Ok here's the deal. Joe Satriani is a great guitarist. I'm sure he was great in 1977 but when the Van Halen debut album came out it's obvious that Satch became (like Many players) a post Van Halen guitarist. There are hundreds of great rock guitar players but four basic categories Pre Jimi, Post Jimi, Pre Edward and Post Edward. I love Van Gina, I'll admit but I would kill Sam in guitar onstage

True, most players did, a few exceptions like Randy, but most of what the 80's hair metal was based of Ed's playing of the first album. But with that said, there are some like Joe and Steve Vai that took it further than Ed - not a popular opinion but a truthful one.
