Propagating Monstera can be easy but many people struggle with variegated variety or are just afraid to propagate. In this video I will show you how I propagate a rare Mint Monstera deliciosa from a calloused cutting from the mail to a well rooted cutting looking very healhty!

That is such an important point.... to just leave the plant alone and don't freak out. Plus the pH is super important for the growth and nutrient uptake. Great video!

Yes. I have ruined props by moving them too much. Weird that the ones that I shove in the back and forget about always do fine.

I see people dip one side of node in wax to help prevent rot - do you suggest and if so which side stays out of water and which side goes in water ?

Yes but....it already had roots. That makes it much easier. How about starting with a fresh cutting. I enjoy your videos

Can you make a video about propagating a leafless variegated monstera node in water? Would it be better to add an air stone in the water?
@TechplantChannel

i gotta get some additional nodes!

Those brown roots were normal air roots. They harden off while growing and get naturally brown. Nothing of concern. They can be utilized to grow water roots, just like you did in your video. Brown *dead* roots on the other hand, will be mushy and breaking off easily

do you have any vids showing your grow light setup you use for this? or if they are on timers, how long they are on per day?

What ph should you be running if you are doing semi hydro for monstera albos

Mine is 8 but I've heard thats not ideal. However I will say in 4 years of a ph like that I've never had a plant rot in my water. And I've water propped many monstera species

Do you find any difference in success leaving the stem out and only having the roots in water?
@TechplantChannel

I have not done any meaningful experiments around that so I'm really not sure. I should test it out

Got a monstera albo and planning to do top cut propagation,now there’s two aerial roots about almost 2 feet long,would it be ok to trim a little off and root in water ?

omg i wish i came across this a week ago of getting my first albo cutting. i did exactly what u said ppl do freak out and change substrates bc i saw brown. i went from water to moss to fluval 🙈. hopefully it will do well! thank you for the info will definitely use it for future cuttings

Does it mean anything if there just isnt any new roots coming out after sitting in water for a month? The leaves are fine though, its not dying but it’s not growing anything new either! Can i conclude that this is a failed propagation? Everyone else seems to notice mew roots coming out around 14days!

Some can take a long time depending on their energy level, I'd hammer it with light. As long as it isn't rotting I'd just keep waiting eventually it will do something!

Great advice! Many people do not provide sufficient light. Another option is a blend of half fluval stratum, half perlite in a tall and narrow see-thru container. The roots grow downward, and any aerial roots also grow down and into the substrate.

Speaking of kimchi, will you grow your own cabbage in your backyard setup, as well as the other ingredients to go along with it. I've been trying to homestead lately, But with smaller things first to see if I am not distracted and busy. I don't want the plants to die that could be edible.

I'm going through the same thing this year for the first time. I think the most important thing is to have a sprinkler or area hose that you can just turn on instead of having to do the dreaded "watering" everyday.

I just propagated a 1 leaf Monstera Deliciosa Albo in water and it worked well. I got 2 new leaves so far, sadly they both almost completely white. There is some green in the steam but the leaves are 99% white. Is there a chance that I am gonna get a livable plant out of this?

@techplant how do your water-propagated monsteras do once you place them in soil? Don’t they then have to stress to grow “soil roots” and the water roots sort of become useless? Wouldn’t it be better to immediately put it in a soil of some sort, do get the soil roots growing? I get so much conflicting info about this.
@TechplantChannel

I have thoughts about water roots vs soil roots. I'd have to organize them but I think its.much easier to go from water to soil than soil to water. I usually don't have trouble going from water to soil
