Nice video but during the incredibly important part about attaching to fuses it moves far too fast and makes way too many assumptions that we know what you're talking about. I would not be able to self-install using this video, I feel like that part alone deserves a much more slow-moving and carefully explained video. AND the voiceover gets the colours of the wires wrong. Overall this video was more confusing than helpful when it comes to the technical wiring stuff, sadly.

Agreed. Also, talking about "making sure the fuse tap you are adding to the fuse tap you have chosen is less than or equal to" is wrong and makes no sense.
@PDQkevin7710 ай бұрын
Having just done this installation I think the fuse tap install instructions are adequate. It really is easy to do. Find the always on and ACC (only when the key is on) fuses, either 10 or 15 amp, and install the fuse taps. You need two fuse taps that fit your car and two additional fuses that are the same size as the fuses you are tapping in to. Also, the plastic panel removal tools are essential in running the wires. I have a crew cab pickup so I ran the rear camera cable under the door sill trim which easily popped off using the trim tool. I have like a $7 set of the tools I got from Crutchfield when I replaced the truck stereo.

@@blackboxmycar May want to consider adding some overlay text to clarify, it can be confusing... you also have a mistake on your website. In one place on the website it's written that the yellow wire is connected to the constant fuse, and then another page it is reversed, the red wire is referred to as constant. On the hardwire kit HK4 it is Yellow = ACC, Red = Battery. I assume by "Battery" this red cable would go into the constant fuse?

As long as you route the wires behind the airbags, then you shouldn't have a problem. Going low is also another way of doing it, but spacing can make it much harder for the installation down there.

@blackboxmycar Жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the review! This is a concern, though a relatively small one. It really depends on the 12V socket that you are connecting to, if this socket stays on once the car is off, then the camera can fully drain the car battery, as there's nothing to tell it to stop. The large majority of 12V sockets do turn on and off with the vehicle, in which case this is not a concern.

Is it ok to use 5A fuses and not the 10A you recommended? are there any risks when using 5A?
@blackboxmycar Жыл бұрын
Dash cams realistically draw a very low draw that is beneath 5A, so a 5A fuse is usually fine. Still, this does not account for the base power going through the fuse, which can vary, and given that the amperage is already so low, the extra charge is more likely to push it over the edge.. Due to this, we do recommend wiring to 10A fuses as a minimum to be safe.

@blackboxmycar4 ай бұрын
For installing the VIOFO A229 2K QHD Dash Cam in your 2025 Chevy Equinox LT, you'll need to select the appropriate fuse tap that matches your vehicle's fuse box. The common types of fuse taps include Low Profile, Mini, Micro 2, and ATO. If you're uncertain which type your vehicle uses, I recommend checking the vehicle's owner's manual or visually inspecting the fuse box to match the size and style. Alternatively, you might consider getting a "2 of Each" option, which includes a variety of fuse taps to ensure you have the correct type on hand. For more detailed guidance or if you have further questions, feel free to reach out to our support team at info@blackboxmycar.com or chat with us via Live Chat. We're here to help make your installation process as smooth as possible!

Installing on the defroster lines is generally fine if they are small, just be cautions when uninstalling, and ensure that said lines aren't blocking the camera's view. Using the static sticker that comes with VIOFO units for mounting can also help reduce risk for of damaging the defroster lines when uninstalling.

Hi there! VIOFO regularly releases firmware updates to address such issues and improve the performance of their dash cams. If you experience freezing, it's a good idea to check for any available firmware updates for your specific model. Additionally, ensuring that you are using a high-quality, compatible microSD card can help reduce the likelihood of glitches, as lower-quality cards may struggle to handle the data being recorded during high-impact events. 2024 Camry. I have 1 empty fuse box slot that has continuous 12v for the "BAT" wire when the car is off, and 1 empty fuse box slot that only has 12v for the "ACC" when the car is on (not running). My A229 hardwire kit "Micro 2" fuse connectors have 2 slots for 2 fuses. It already has a "5" fuse in the connector, and has a blue crimp connector on the other end. Do I need to put another fuse in the 2nd fuse slot next to the "5" fuse that came with the kit? Or not since Im using 2 empty fuse slots in my fuse box? If I dont have to have to add another fuse to each connector, how do I know if the "5" fuse is in the right slot on the connector?
@blackboxmycar8 ай бұрын
Yes, if you're using empty fuse slots in your 2024 Camry's fuse box, you don't need to add another fuse to the second slot in your hardwire kit connector. The "5" fuse already in the connector protects the dash cam circuit. Ensure the "5" fuse is in the slot closest to the wire on the fuse tap, furthest from the teeth of the fuse.

My older 2 channel just failed. I can never remember mini or micro USB power connecter, but the old one was a Rexing so I am pretty sure it is a mini-usb power connector. It did not last long, about two years and all four of my Viofo's in my other cars are still going after about 4 years. Anyway, I am looking to make this into a hardwire to the OBD-2 connector, as the fuse box does not have the room to use an add-on (I DID get it to work but had to cut down some plastic around it and use tape to hold the add-on in place. I want to get rid of that and go with the OBDII). I programmed a search for an HK4 OBDII connector with zero results returned. So... Is there help for me?
@blackboxmycar Жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that your old system failed on you. There is not currently an OBD cable for VIOFO cameras that we can recommend. It may be best to take the vehicle to a professional for some more professional and creative wiring solutions if wiring to the fusebox is truly out of the question.

@@blackboxmycar Thank you for the reply. I drive a Pajero and very few places will touch it. I got the fuse add-ons to work by unbolting the plastic panels around it and cutting some access. But the add-a-fuse was still in a bad place and I covered them with Gorilla tape to keep them in place. Going to the OBD connector would solve a miriad of problems but... OK, so I have to unbolt a few panels again. Argh.

Wait so which fuse are you actually plugging it into? You mentioned a fuse being constant or acc but didn’t specify which fuse to plug to. Can you just plug them into any acc and constant fuse you want? Or is there only one acc and one constant fuse on a car? Cause from video it looked like there where multiples of each.
@blackboxmycar2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, let us help explain further. With a hardwiring kit, there is 1 constant wire, 1 ACC wire and 1 ground wire. You need to connect them to 1 constant fuse slot, 1 ACC fuse slot and 1 ground bolt. You're using the circuit tester to identify which fuse is the constant and which fuse is the ACC (whether it lights up or not), corresponding with the vehicle user manual to ensure that the fuse isn't associated with anything critical, like your airbags. After you've identified which fuse slot to use, you're crimping 1 add-a-fuse to the 1 constant wire on your hardwiring kit, and 1 add-a-fuse to the 1 ACC wire (2 in total), and then take the fuse tap from the slot that you've chosen and inserting it into the add-a-fuses, along with the additional fuse taps from our BlackboxMyCar Essential Installation Kit. Hope that helps, but if you need more clarifications, please don't hesitate to contact us at info[at]blackboxmycar.com.

How do you ground your vehicle to the earth? @1.48 you mentioned using non-painted bolts for grounding which allows excess voltage to flow into the earth. You must know that electricity will not flow through the vehicle tires so the vehicle must be grounded to the earth for the excess voltage to pass from the car into the earth.
@blackboxmycar Жыл бұрын
Hi there. While grounding to the earth is a concept in electrical systems, grounding for vehicle accessories only involves connecting them to the vehicle's chassis. Grounding to the chassis is essential for proper operation and safety, and there's generally no need to create a direct connection to the earth ground when installing dash cams or similar devices in vehicles.
