Viperconcept's Racing Games chart (Episode 8)

I want to make add something to the video: I noticed that some people shared my chart on other social media, like facebook, reddit and Twitter. Nothing wrong with it... I mean I like when more people can see my opinion about racing games. What I dislike is some people just simply "jump to the conclusions" laughing at the position of some games of my chart. Let's take for example DiRT Rally 2.0: it seems strange for some people I put it to an lower position in terms of physics compared to WRC... but I put it THERE because we are all aware of the awful physics on tarmac... not to mention the more precise FFB you have on WRC. Similiar story for the non-modded version of Richard Burns rally: as you saw in my video-review about it, the behavior of FWD cars is totally wrong. And I penalized it on the chart for this reason. Or let's take for example GTA IV: yeah it's more realistic than you think if we keep in mind the good damage model (both graphical and mechanic) and the very differen behavior of FWD-AWD and RWD cars. For those 2 reasons I decided to reward the game made by Rockstar Games Or... seems strange Project CARS 1 is almost at the same level of physics of GT Sport... but most of you forget you can't drift on Project CARS 1. If you try to drift on Project CARS 1, you simply spin. Is that realistic? I don't think so. Is that a big problem which penalizes the physics level on my chart? yes. I understand some of you won't agree with my chart - it's my chart, and my modest subjective opinion of course, afterall - but you can't imagine how many factors you have to keep in mind on both physics and graphics to make the most accurate chart. But at least, despite the fanboy behaviour of some people, I take the risk to make a chart like this one. Just name me one (not small) KZbinr who makes the same; I don't know if you'll find it, because in most of cases his job is just to have more subscribers. And how do you make subscribers? by avoiding risky videos which upsets fanboys. So, at least, I take that risk with this video, because for me, it's more important to express my opinion than having more subscribers, which allows me to have more genuine thoughts about games. I'm very sorry about this long final statement, thanks for your attention. :D

A friend of mine, while not knowledgeable or experienced in racing games or motorsports, wanted to try ACC, and to explain to him the differences between arcade->sim I sent him the video in which you placed ACC on the chart and a screenshot of the most complete version of it. Sharing it on social media would probably help you more, but he in particular just doesn't watch this kind of content.

I think the phisics in WRC10 is more realistic in all stage type when compared to dirt. The inertia of the car is more pronounced. On dirt you can literally put the car completely side ways at an insanely high speed, but 50% of the track and nothing happens. I mean it's way more enjoyable than WRC in a first look, but after looking more deeply I do thing is a better simulation, not only in tarmac, but for the other surfaces to.

I've just played like an hour of Horizon 5 and I'm in love with it. First of all like a mexican obviusly I was so into it when it was first announced, but then, playing with controller, I felt it so easy to adapt for my driving style, like really natural. I would kill for a Gran Turismo spin off like FH: *same physics as GT Sport (or GT7 that is coming soon) *no stupid plot, no narrator constantly stroking your ego, no dumb gimmicks and setups like racing against airplanes and skydivers *just a beautiful open world to drive in against other people online, like those Assetto Corsa highway mods in a gigantic scale

@@fatalmokrane I'm not a Forza hater, but that's not the type of stuff I enjoy and it's not exactly the style of GT either (even when talking about a speculative GT spin off series). Forza Horizon is a great series for what it is and we all stand to gain with competition and more variety of options in the market. What I wanted from an open world GT game was the more realistic physics (struggling to control the car is half the fun, FH is a bit too arcadish for me to the point where it feels like the car is driving itself) and the vibe of GT: japanese jazz fusion and the menus and whole presentation that treats cars and autosport like high art with a touch of eroticism (it's a weird description but I think people that enjoy GT knows what I mean here).

Ray Tracing will be anecdotal since we have hybrid 3D engines (rasterization+RT). See Metro Exodus RT edition, it's full RT and it's gorgeous.

When you return Viper, it needs an update. Like Le Mans Ultimate, Forza Motorsport 8, Gran Turismo 7, World Rally Championship '23, Initial D Arcade Stage, Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune. Where would games already on the chart go after they get a new updated? And as for Richard Burns Rally, apparently the physics are better than Dirt Rally 2. After RBR been heavily modified.

Viper, please check out Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2. It's a PS2 game with arguably the best physics on the platform. There's a big focus on drifting, which feels just as good as regular driving. The cars have weight, and you can almost "feel" that weight being thrown around corners, and "feel" when the tires lose grip and enter a drift. You have to try it.

NFS Heat is 100% juice of arcade game. There is nothing SIM, unfortunately

Both games are very arcadish and honestly, Forza Horizon 5 is the best overall open world racing game right now. NFS:Heat and TC2 both have appealing features that Horizon 5 is lacking but the overall better experience is FH5.

I know what you mean about fh5, but it is a bit more realistic in physics than fh4 in my opinion and waaay more than other mainstream open world racers. It’s getting there slowly and steady :)

I think some games should just have a option on the settings menu where you could chose if you want to play the game with arcade/ sim-arcade physics or full realism for sim racers. That way they would attract evry type of people for the game.

Getting WRC10 on the same grafical level of dirt 2.0 is actually quite a complement. Just got WRC 10 for the PS5 and it looks worse than dirt on the PS4. Something about the textures... Even so the game is solid and more realistic than dirt 2.0 for sure.

Let's take an example: Harju, WRC game: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pordZ3V6htdon8k - Harju, real life, Ogier: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHSXp4qaZZ2hoLM Look at the first hairpin: how slow the braking is compared to the game; how he hits the apex of the corner with the car pretty much in reverse to create a force vector that's gonna pull him out of the corner past that apex, which is uneeded in the game; there's more deceleration happening as the car slides into that angle with no throttle input at all to allow the tyres grip, and that deceleration is also much slower than in the game. Look at how the real car's front end dives under braking before the second corner, how sophisticated the braking technique is, and how he wiggles the car (scandinavian flick) to make it enter on the corner with a good balance. In the game he enters at F1 speed and corners the same way; the lateral grip is just ridiculous, as if the tyres are massively gripy or the car is ultra lightweight. In real life, the corner is too slow, and you can look at the exit how the weight transfers and the active diffs make the car turn to the right, forcing the driver to countersteer to the left and modulate the throttle. In the game you can exit that stuff with the steering straight and full throttle. Thru the rest of the course you can see Ogier planting and setting the car with weight transfering techniques and dealing with oversteer/understeer produced by the ruts on the groundd or the different loads of weight each tyre has at different moments or whatever. Real life looks exciting, difficult, complex, heavy, like it demands plenty of weight transfering techniques and good understanding of the balance of the car, etc. The game looks soft, easy, simple, lightweight, ultra grippy, like it doesn't demands weight transfering techniques nor understanding of the balance of the car, etc.

I noticed two patterns here The more the developers are forced to push games by the publisher, the more repetitive and non innovative it gets so the game will get pretty stale pretty quickly And also this one is the most important the more they try to appear to a wider audience the worse more diluted the game gets, they need to get this. They cannot make everyone happy they need to focus on their already existing playerbase and improve on that

A rating of GRID Autosport would be nice. It is currently the only really usable game with simulation elements on Android. With a smartphone holder for the Xbox controller absolute fun for in between or when you are on the road and do not have to drive xD. Real Racing 3 is rather a fancy pay to win graphic demo with prefabricated vehicle animations to simulate physics. There is software in the PlayStore that has potential. But the development either takes forever, or at other points is failed. But it's nice to see that slowly usable and especially "paid" games are coming into the PlayStore again.

Shift 2 had big issues with the Gravity system: rebounds of the car After jumps and bumps felt too "violent" in my opinion.

I think the vertical axis of graphics on your chart needs to be labeled as realism of graphics, like you have done with physics on the horizonal axis. I think Outrun Coast 2 Coast looks better than a lot of games that are higher than it vertically because of the art style, but I think your placement is correct based on realism. There are other games that have "aged" really well due to artistic choices, such as Auto Modellista, Dirt 2 and Race Driver Grid.

Nice chart! I wonder why you rate AC still higher than rFactor 2 concerning graphics, when no mods like Sol are used in AC? Without mods like Sol, AC is really showing its age and rFactor 2 is better now (except maybe for some old ISI content), and also has rain and day/night transitions. Where does the original "Race Driver: Grid" from 2009 go on the chart? Unlike Grid 2, it doesn't have the "brake to drift" bullcrap, you actually have to take part in a drift event and set up your car properly to drift. The rest of the driving is proper grip driving. Also, where does Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition: Remix go? The graphics are extremely dated by now, but that game is my childhood.
