By the way, CCIP stands for Continuously Computed Impact Point, rather than Computer Controlled Impact Point. But that’s just a small nitpick, thank you for creating helpful and concise tutorial videos about the more advanced systems in VTOL VR. Great video!
@TheFerretsWheels2 жыл бұрын
You can see a point in the video where I pause a little thinking “I’m sure ‘continuous’ is in there somewhere” but still decided on computer controlled haha. Thank you for the clarification bud 👍
@arguy3297 Жыл бұрын
It's continously calculated impact point. You also don't have to hold the trigger until you see the release cursor at the top of the bomb fall line
@homestyle200025 күн бұрын
note that when using mad dog mode with AIM-120, although your own plane radar will be off, the missile does have its own radar that will still trigger the enemy airplane's RWR for inbound missile. this is a function best used with the F45 which can provide weapon guidance without a high frequency sweep scan that alerts the enemy plane of an incoming lock. it can also be useful for off-bore/high aspect activities. both of which are better done by IR guided missiles like AIRS-T or Aim9X. neither of these give an RWR warning and are quite a bit more maneuverable than AIM-120. mad dog mode is basically in case or emergencies or for trolling purposes.

@TheFerretsWheels Жыл бұрын
Other than an additional button press there is a chance of shooting a missile so far off boresight that it cannot manoeuvre onto target, have to be pretty close for that to happen though
@howdeedoo2 жыл бұрын
quick note: do not try to dive bomb moving targets with dumb bombs in TGT mode. The dotted line indicator will move as you dive closer to the target. This makes lining up your shot much harder. Instead, you should stick to PIP mode or the HUD CCIP and lead the impact point. This is most helpful on moving naval ships.

I’ve recently picked up this game and you have been MONUMENTALLY helpful for me. I‘ve watched this one twice and have two questions: 1. Is there any advantage to using “auto” instead of “manual” for uncaged mode? 2. Does MADDOG only work in CQB? Basically within “pit bull” range, where the missile uses its own guidance instead of the planes radar? I wasn’t totally clear on this part. Thanks again!
@TheFerretsWheels2 жыл бұрын
Auto uncaged means you have to point the aircraft at the target. Manual uncaged you need to hold the trigger to lock “off boresight” and press weapon select to fire. A missile can be fired maddog off the rails and it will fly until it acquires a target or find out of energy
@nickyramone22 жыл бұрын
@@TheFerretsWheels but is there ever any advantage to using auto? It seems like manual would always be the better option so you don’t have to worry about swinging the nose around

@@nickyramone2 energy retention on the missile! Any missile you fire has X potential energy and Y kinetic energy that is either being converted between types, or bleed off due to the various forces acting on the missile. That being said, firing a missile forward, not requiring a major turn, saves a lot of energy, allowing for longer ranges, and better end flight accuracy. So manual, allowing you to fire at targets far to your side, loses a lot of energy at the start of the flight, meaning lower velocities, and a end in the missiles burn sooner then expected. That being said, at closer ranges it’s very effective, but if you’re trying to run a sead mission or the likes, it’s best to retain as much energy as possible to allow for further engagements to keep yourself protected. Lotta ways to increase the energy of a missile when it’s fired given most fire on a ballistic trajectory at first before they start maneuvering! (I know I’m 3 weeks late but I hope it helps)
