On my first year in U.S., doing my ESL(English as Second Language) assignment during regular classes, on break time I think, my American friends were all laughing because I was repeatedly writing the word “shirt” with an “r” missing. In a way, I did a good job.
It’s very interesting topic. Sometimes I felt odd when I watched American anime translated to Japanese dubbed. For example one of the characters of RWBY talks Ojosama Kotoba, high society manners, among other teenage team mates. The original English version, she is talking typical high school girl which makes the conversation more casual. However in Japanese version, the conversation became a little longer and lose vibe of teenager’s talking. I was enjoying that the girl from super rich and high class using pretty rough English and showing their bonds as a team. I don’t see it in Japanese dubs.
