Rivian Adventure Networks can output 300 kW max over 3 chargers. So you were only getting 100kW because 3 Rivians were plugged in. When that one left, it went up to roughly 150 because it's 300 kW divided by 2 vehicles. Battery temps definitely can reduce charge input, but you were limited by 300 kW over 3 units

Yup, although I've only been able to charge at 220kW max in my gen 1 even when I'm by myself.

look into installing some 'chase lights'. essentially they are rear facing lights that cut through the dust, so you dont rear end the vehicle in front. typically yellow or amber in color.

Oh thank you for that. I didn't know about them.

Make sure you guys air down for sand, or you will get stuck. Air down and don't get stuck. They called it Badwater, because back in the day when prospectors were looking for gold they would bring their horses/donkeys to water and they wouldn't drink the water there because of the salt content, so they called it bad water.

Wooo hoo! I’ve seen some nice setup for camping with the R1S. You can fit so much stuff with the 2nd and 3rd down. So much more utility than the Model X. More room too. Congrats! Can’t wait to hear more about it. R2 is gonna be awesome. Hoping we hear more about it in the next few months.

recently did a day trip to Death Valley. That park is so big, it's the biggest in the lower 48. A day trip requires a lot of planning because of the lack to DC fast charging in the park. They need one in Furnace Creek visitor center badly. I also drove to Beatty NV to charge and then drive back into the park to see more sites. I did it in my Model Y. It's a pain driving 40-60 miles out of the park to charge then driving back in the park to hit more sites. I probably would have been better off staying at the camp site and level 2 charging at Furnace Creek Camp site, even though their NEMA 14-50 plugs say not to charge an EV there, but I think it would have still been okay. I have a short video of my trip on my youtube.

We had reserved 9 spots at the RV park and informed them that we will be charging EVs. I didn't know some places will not let you charge EV. Maybe it's load? They just opened a RAN in Shoshone, CA x.com/Rivian/status/1866274313239675071 But I'm not sure if it's open to all EVs. Sooner or later they will have one but yes, it's a huge inconvenience having to drive an extra 40-60 miles. It almost happened on our Grand Canyon trip. We stayed at Williams, AZ. Closest Tesla supercharger is Flagstaff at 30 miles away. Luckily I brought my CCS adapter. But at least they had chargers near the hotel while in Death Valley there are none.

I wonder if there was any large pack? And how did they do ? Not sure how many mailes it was but just curious. Specially since there seems to be a couple with like BF KOs tires or similar. Thanks for the video. I have an R1S and have done a few off road trips already. Looking forward to the mid west area. Like you were

I have a large pack dual motor performance. When leaving the RV park close to 100%, it says I have 350 miles range. I have 21" road tires. It's my first road trip of this kind and love it.
@carlossilviotube26 күн бұрын
@sherwinm do you think having a large pack 20 inch all terrain with aprox 270 miles of range you could of done that trip? I ask if someone else had ot because I notice you had way more range than mine
@sherwinm26 күн бұрын
@@carlossilviotube The route that was shared to us says it's 155 miles from Baker chargers to Beatty. With elevation from -267 ft to 4,282 ft. You generally want to subtract about 10% off your range as a buffer. If you were to do the same route, you should be able to do it but you will need to find a charger at your destination... otherwise, it's a one way trip. Gene, with the blue R1T with all the extraction tools I think has large pack with 20" AT. He was in single digits % when we arrived at the RV Park. I think he was 9%. I don't know how high he charged at Baker EA. The weather wasn't too cold either. I'd say during the day it was around 50-60F. There is a brand new RAN at Shoshone x.com/Rivian/status/1866274313239675071

We just came back from death valley, I used the new Shoshone RAN station. When was this video filmed? Much better with that new station, it also has 3 pull through stations
@sherwinm29 күн бұрын
We went weekend of November 16. That station wasn’t open yet. Not sure if it would be on the itinerary. We did mostly fire road routes. Only on the way back we drove on the highway. So much fun. I think Joshua Tree is next for SGVRC in February.

Yes is way too expensive EA. At .38 cents os already comparable to gas. So anything above that its more expensive. Hey question. How many miles was the trip? I have no finish the video. Apologies if you mention in a bit
@sherwinm26 күн бұрын
I usually share my trip data at the end when I do road trip videos. In this video it's at 57:38. But it was 582 miles. 38 cents is a bit low in California. The gas here floats between $4-5 per gallon.

Looks like y'all had lots of fun. Did the guy leaking coolant need to get towed?
@sherwinm29 күн бұрын
He called and was quoted $1000 and 48 hours before a tow arrives if he stayed in the remote area. He was able to drive to the next stop, the sand dunes where I flew my drone but noticed the temps were getting too high and getting notifications of low coolant. Him and his bro with R1S tried to drive to Vegas Rivian. He was able to make it to the highway and was able to get towed to Vegas Rivian. I don’t have an update. Waiting for him to update us in a private group chat. I don’t wanna ask. He felt really bad. Last message I saw he would get his truck back in a couple of days but he would have to drive back to Vegas to get it. No one was hurt so that’s a good thing. We were just having too much fun. But always good to travel in groups ☺️

Electrify America is making it difficult for other to buy ev’s because their electric charging is charging more than gas at $0.60/kW. I will never charge with them.
@sherwinm26 күн бұрын
They want you to pay for subscription to bring down to cost to what others have it as. I think it's $7 monthly. To be fair, Tesla is also charging a $13 monthly subscription for non-Tesla to get the same rates as Tesla owners get but at least at Tesla, the chargers are plenty and they are not broken.
