Heartily agree about the bushing stiffness on new boards. They’re putting around 100 durometer bushings on most boards out of the box to keep hot heads from killing themselves when they try to hit the +/-30mph industry standard top speed 🙄 Yup, street boards really don’t need to be that fast, esp with inexperienced riders buying them. I use soft bushings on most of my boards for the love of the carve (buy a scooter if you’re just going to go in a straight line, right?) & I use the soft bushings to set my top speed- I simply can’t go too fast without wobbling- which is fine, esp on a board with 90mm (standard) wheels & on short boards. SO MUCH FUN is had between 10-20mph once one really falls in love with the play between wheel grip & gravity I’m actively working to help riders in my city enjoy the surf 🏄🏻 over the scream 🏎️💨

I agree. I understand some people want to keep up with cars. However, stiff board increases difficulty in maneuvering in a city. Drivers are already bad at paying attention to loud motorcyclist. It's important to use speed as only as short burst in a maneuver to get out the way, when braking isn't appropriate. The power of fast boards is great for cities with hills. Also the range is good, if a rider stays away from the top speed and stays in the 10-20mph, you suggested. Scooters are better for range and straight riding, but they aren't the best for storing (weight and size). You can fit a board in some gym lockers and under an office desk.

I’m wanting my boards to go at least 38 Miles per hour! Stability is no problem, even on a shorter wheelbase deck, because I use a combination of Waterborne surf adapters to get maximum maneuverability with reversed(flipped around) rear trucks to add HUGE stability. This combo is the best of both worlds, having nimble carving while NEVER CREATING SPEED WOBBLES. Regular truck set-up is designed like a monster truck, great for low speed turning but super unstable at speed. No big deal when riding slow speeds at a park when you need a symmetrical board to ride any direction, but silly for an electric board. The front and rear should be specialized if the board is always meant to go in one direction and especially for higher speeds. Normally we just stiffen up bushings and sacrifice turning, but that’s not necessary; Just like a sports’ car can do slaloms and u-turns but still be stable at 200mph. By mimicking a AWS sports car’s design with rear wheels that turn with the front at high speeds, we get huge stability both straight line and through corners. I’ve been testing this for over six years and it’s proven that it will auto correct when disrupted rather than wobble many, many times. My set-up: Waterborne adapters front and rear (the rear assembly is critical to get full use of the front while maintaining grip in back, otherwise the outer wheel will lift, lose grip and slide) Waterborne carbon extension plates f&r, Major Arc truck in front, any truck in back with stiffer bushings(we only want a bit of rear turning). The Major Arc truck isn’t necessary to get the effect but it adds a lot of front end turning while being very low profile; neither is the carbon plates but they add comfort and traction to the road as a bit of suspension should so I usually include them.

Daniel you're such a great voice in the community! It's so important to have a big e-boards KZbinr who advocates for shorter, lighter boards. It's becoming more and more difficult to find good, innovative light boards which in my opinion are the reason to get an e-board over other vehicle types in the first place

Daniel is pretty much the only voice on KZbin I listen to anymore. Most reviewers aren’t reliable and basically just read the spec sheet and say the board is fun. Like thanks. Daniel goes into way more detail about his feelings and I love it.

Great review Daniel. I actually got into Electric skateboards because of your videos. I taught a class on Boosted boards, as an alternative to commuting. Their marketing strategy was exceptional and their fit and finish was above average, (from what I've read), but their prices were not at all competitive. I enjoy your reviews and video series. On a note, most likely Forbes does not ask an experienced rider to create articles, but "a person" to simply collect data and formulate an opinion regarding said products. I'm glad you weighed in on the issues, hopefully someone will be more informed regarding their next/future purchase of an Electric skateboard.

I miss Boosted so much :(. Even their ESCs were better than anything else I've tried. My Exway's battery drains no matter what. It's always flat after winter. My Boosted's battery still loses absolutely no charge while sitting still over winter, even today.

I was one of the earliest buyers of the Evolve GTR when they had the older version of the remote, electric skateboarding was the biggest passion I’ve ever found, but I was one of the unlucky people who had the break bug that would throw you off immediately, I ended up being scared of riding it due to this and it eventually stopped working, currently planning on buying another board at the end of the year, so keen to get back ESkating, never felt so free

*Boosted really did make eboardin more popular,* before that the controls were a little janky and never really took off. RIP Boosted. 🤙🏽⚡️⚡️🤙🏽 A lotta times these articles seem to be ill thought out, they do only basic searches it seems before they post an article lol. Very much agree about makin boards more manouvarable and encouragin riders to ride slower, have more fun carvin then slowly build up to more speed if they want. If it barely turns its just less fun. The belt drive M1 version of that Ownboard Mini is quite nice for those that want a simple mini, very easy and cheap to mod. You should do more of these commentary style videos in between your regular ones 🤙🏽

Daniel, you are so right! never ridden over 55km/h and no desire to ever try it. once you crash over 30km/h you know how bad it can get. also portability is the biggest issue… I prefer my kaboo mantis king gt always over the ownboard zeus pro since i can lock it anywhere i want.

A possible solution to the beginners on fast board is limiting the top speed until they have 25 miles of riding. For more experience riders that's not difficult , but they could provide warning and a code (button sequence) for the remote. This similar to performance cars that don't let engine reach certain rpm until it's reached a certain amount miles (break in)

I work on a military base and got stopped one by military police for skating against the flow of (nonexistent) traffic at MAYBE 15 mph. Cop was... okay I guess... and pretty interested about my board (it was an Ownboard bamboo gt I on pnumies) I told him I prefer to see if a car is about to hit me so I can avoid... dying... if possible so I skate into (nonexistent) traffic. He said something like "the speed limit is 25mph so you're fine to ride with the flow of (nonexistent) traffic." I said something like "sir... I said it CAN go 25mph+ but that doesn't mean I'm comfortable going 25 on these shitty roads standing on a skateboard. Have you ever stood on a piece of wood with wheels and gone 25? It's A LOT faster than you think." He was pretty chill and told me to "be aware" and let me go on without much more of a hassle.

My Hadean (Evolve) after a year with it. I was not able to turn it back on. Kept flickering and never fully fuction…. Luckily I had (extend) and took almost two months till they gave my money back. So now I’m really thinking which one I should get. I live in the City but also love the All terrain as the city streets are bad. What would you recommend?

Honestly the boards are getting heavier and heavier. I like the weight of the 2 in 1 carbon fiber boards like the Ownboard Zeus. I can pick up easily and they are still very nimble. I disagree with the comment about lights on the backfire and now showing up on other boards. They work well and look super cool at nighttime.

Still talking about boosted in 2024 is like STILL talking about Vine in 2024. Boosted barely measured up to the comp when they were new, 10 yrs later a 7 mile board can be bought at walmart. Most mid-boards today are 300 to 500wh and have mid level cust serv on a historiclly diy product, let it go.

@@diangelojackson976 ok, understood. However over 2500 miles, ran over by 3 cars, 6 days on ONE charge, 30mile range, 40mph for $900 for my current board. In practical performance the boosted CANNOT measure up, a romantic cult following does not compensate for 7 mile range. A nice collectors item of Niestat memorabilia, but does it really measure up to any current stats and standards?

Speed is relative. Sure you can go faster on say an e-bike but you can go even faster on an combustion engine motorcycle. It is the type of vehicle you like to go fast on is where you get your thrills, so as a skateboarder it is thrilling to do 35mph plus on a e board even if there are faster vehicles. Sort of like why do 100mph on a speedboat instead of 200 in a car if you love speed? Is it dangerous for a beginner to do 30mph on an electric board? Sure. But so it is for a beginner bombing a hill at 40mph on his first longboard trying to imitate say Josh Neumann (RIP) doing 70mph+. If people get scared away from boards after their first real fall then maybe they should try an e-scooter.😊 Skateboards were always for the daring on some level so it isn't for all commuters, which is why e scooters have exploded of all types and capabilities for all ages. On the other end e-unicycles are even more for the thrill seeker than e-boards really and some of the production ones can do 70mph or even faster. Not me. I would never go that fast on it, but that's my choice. I will get my thrills doing 40mph+ on my Meepo Voyager.😅

Boosted was too cocky and expensive I own a meepo v2 and v3 and they both are faster and go farther than boosted boards they both go 30-31 mph and I mainly buses them to commute bro work and both still are only a small fraction of the boosted 😮 boosted killed themselves

Hey Daniel I just want to share my appreciation for the editing, production quality and just an amazing video! I was waiting for a new vid from you for a while and it makes me wonder: Do you necessarily have to make such long videos? I would much appreciate if there would be shorter videos with more condensed info. I understand that we all have jobs and little free time. To review all the boards in the world also costs a ton, so that's that. But maybe with more collaboration within the Esk8 world we can have a more coherent atmosphere? How about making a collab with Fabian and his Onsra boards? I know you have covered them, yet more publicity will only benefit us all! Also Skott Davies and Average Eskate Reviews are nice reviewers. Completely disagree about the top speed. Where I live, and in most of America, there are no sidewalks and you will get run over from behind unless you’re doing at least 30 mph

In my opinion this industry is going to the wrong direction. Getting more speed and range to beat other boards on specs, which sadly seems to be the only reason brand new buyers will pay attention to when making buying decisions. But more range means more weight and less maneuverability, and more speed means stiffer steering at lower speed to protect the new users from killing themselves and bigger wheels to make it more stable, which makes the board even less maneuverable and finally less fun to ride. Nowadays eboards are more like electric bikes or electric cars and less like a longboard. If I want extremely high range and speed so much why don’t I go for a ebike or a car, which by the way is so much safer than riding an eboard lol. I now felt really lucky that I got to know eboards 5 years ago, when they were still at least trying to make the eboards ride like normal boards with normal weight (exway x1, backfire g2 weighs about 6.3kg) and they responded so well because of the relatively light weight and small wheels. Back then the boards couldn’t go very far but it was enough to have fun with it for half a day. Nowadays the boards are getting range that is 2 or 3 times longer than before but the ride is so not enjoyable that I don’t want to ride it long enough to make the range worth. And, the lights. Backfire and Exway OMG WTF are they thinking.
