Marine combat vet here Sir! You have a new follower in me and truth be told, i myself got outta shape a little here and when i seen your video, i got down and did what you were doing Sir! Felt great! Im 50 now but still strong as an ox all i need is some good cardio that has nothing to do with my legs and ill be great! Any ideas??? I have a torn meniscus and no MCL, as i tore it in 2004 while overseas and it cant be repaired. They wanna do surgery but everytime i ask what it consists of they keep saying complete knee replacement and i dont need that at all, as ive been walking since 04 with pain mind you but cannabis helps, as i dont wanna do opiates or nerve pain killers. Both very addictive and damaging to the body! Any ideas i will take as golden nuggets Sir! I started on the mountain climbers and i got 100 of them! Not on one set but 4 sets of 25 each!

These are all very good exercises and great explanations on them. However, my input is that there's no need for the beginner, intermediate and advanced progression. This approach is very old-school and really does not serve any purpose aside from delaying progress. If you can do the intermediate and advanced variations with perfect form and can hold them for 5 seconds, you should add them to the routine. Instead of doing the beginner variation for 60 seconds, just do 10 seconds advanced, 20 seconds intermediate and 30 seconds beginner. This way, you're hitting all the different muscles, improve on the intermediate and advanced variations while at the same time still maintaining good form.

First two exercise I would not advise unless you wish to have a lower bad back as they are putting to much pressure on the lower spine even for someone advanced, You would be better advised to lower one leg at a time he also does not mention engaging your core with your lower abdominal muscles .

It goes to 116 with just 20 squats. I can't figure out what would be a reasonable and non-lethal heart rate to aim for. Any ideas? or research I could read?

I am 68 and I totally understand. I sat around during the Covid lockdown and now I am trying to recover my strength and cardio endurance. I was getting completely winded just climbing my basement steps after putting some laundry in the washer or just taking a walk down the street. I have gradually improved - just have patience with yourself. Just keep doing some cardio type exercise. I learned that if you are breathing too hard /huffing and puffing to be able to talk smoothly, that is too much. Or if you feel like your heart is beating too hard in your chest then that is too much. If you can talk while you are moving or squatting even though you are breathing faster then you are probably in a decent zone. You have to listen to your body. Good Luck! We can do this! No one is ever too old to improve (unless we are sick or dying)

Walking. If you can, start by walking in a swimming pool (25 yards at a time). Move for 1 minute, rest 1 minute. Then 2 minutes on, 2 minutes off…..and so on until you can do 4 minutes on/off. The world’s most fit athletes….Olympic champion Nordic skiers and Tour de France winners, do this exact regimen. It’s called the Nordic 4 x 4. You can work up to greater levels by slowly adding time (1 minute on/off) and intensity….heart rate. Read and or watch videos from Peter Attia. Good luck!
