Well people did listen. His band, his wife and others very close to him tried to help him but it just wasn't enough. His fans also knew but there's not a lot they could do for him. I remember hearing his wife say they helped him through some dark periods including previous suicide attempts and they believed he was in the clear and in a good place, or at least a better place, but that's when he hung himself. I think his good friend Chris Cornell's suicide was just pushed him over the edge, Cornell also hanged himself 5 months prior.

Two other songs from them that really show the cry for help are Leave Out All The Rest, and Given Up. When Mike (the rapper) heard Chester sing Given Up, he stayed with Chester for a few days to make sure he wasn't going to do something bad, because he could hear the pain in his voice. Both very powerful songs. As someone who deals with severe anxiety and depression, I feel the lyrics of so many of their songs. And even though a lot of them are written by Mike, Chester does a perfect job of conveying the feeling. I connect with him so much. R.I.P. Chester

This song, as well as many other of his songs, were not about isolation in fame or general depression. Chester had serious knowledge of child sex trafficking and such. Things like MK Ultra, and other abusive scenarios. He knew people, names, locations and $$$. But fear of death, at the hands of others, like some of his friends died was a bigger evil than he was willing to risk, so he told stories with his music... that rabbit hole goes deep!

Not to take away from the feelings...but Chester almost never wrote any of these lyrics. They were almost always written by Mike (the rapper), who was often indeed writing based off of what he thought Chester might feel like...but they weren't exactly coming from Chester. That being said, I'm sure Chester still felt the lyrics very deeply, and they probably could have come from him.

@Danii Holt You're the one who sounds like you doesnt know shit. Mainly ideas came from Mike (not only lyrics but music too, with Brad). Chester had issues from Day One when Hybrid Theory came out at least. But we all took it tongue in cheek bc "it's just lyrics in a song", but it was real, mental health should not be messed with when someone is sending out real messages.
@frizzlethecat20843 жыл бұрын
Really? Did you? I never did - but then, I watched a lot of interviews on MTV (back in the days) and it was quite openly said that he'd got a lot of skeletons in his closet and dealt with addiction, abuse and depression. So for me, it never was "just lyrics". Guess people without MTV just weren't able to find out without actively looking for it.
@CaliDBan3 жыл бұрын
@@frizzlethecat2084 Maybe 'we all' wasn't the best way to say it. There were so many bands writing lyrics like that. So it was just.....sing along and not really think on that level about it. I was an angsty high schooler, and every band had lyrics that were like that, you just didn't know if it was storytelling or real.
@frizzlethecat20843 жыл бұрын
@@CaliDBan I didn't want to be rude, sorry if I was. As shocked as I was about Chester's death (I thought he had gotten a grip on his issues - poor guy) I wasn't really surprised, since, as I said, it was on MTV nearly every week when I was younger. But you're right, there was quite the 'hype' about such angsty lyrics. I just get a little ticked off - and that has nothing to do with you personally, please don't take it that way, just an explanation - when there's comments about how "his lyrics were a cry for help, and nobody listened". He had support! He had a family, a good wife, friends who were there for him. He was in therapy (on and off) but sometimes it just isn't enough, or bad circumstances lead to one thing and another. Someone once told me a story about a kid they knew. He had depression and was in therapy, and he was doing well. His family was about to go on a trip with him and they were happy and laughing, and that kid just went inside to get something. When he didn't return, they checked. He'd hung himself with a string from his door-handle. 🙁 Just a spur-of-the-moment thought, when he'd been perfectly happy just minutes ago. It's terrible for everyone and it hurts so bad for the remaining friends and family, but that's sadly how it goes sometimes. Something snaps and if there's an opportunity...
@CaliDBan3 жыл бұрын
@@frizzlethecat2084 Oh I didn't take it as rude. And I feel you, me and my friends had the same thing happen as your friend. On a doorknob at someone's apt over a girl. All the love, we just never forget this stuff for the rest of our lives. All the respect, I hope you are doing alright with it.

Being honest here.. You have to be careful with Linkin Park. If you suffer with any kind of depression.. You have to watch your moods when you listen to them.
