​@@technosins7123 So it depends. Explainers exist that just have a watch in-frame on the wooden desk, no hand, as part of the thumbnail. But likewise, podcasts exist with the same thumbnail. One of the ideas I pitched to WF was just having a radio mic with a white outline in a consistent location in frame in the thumbnail to distinguish the two. Hoping they take it.

5172G is beautiful. The $72K retail price is a bit steep though. Should a Calatrava really be $30k or closer to $20-$25k for what you get? Breguet anyone? Then again I think all watch prices have gone crazy so who knows. This is my favorite format.

Watch prices dont make sense anymore. 5 years ago if you said that this is a 30k watch, that wouldn't have been a controversial statement. Theyre being used as investment tools more than watches now

When i first saw the watch i didnt find it ugly in anyway but nor did i find it the best looking, until i saw those lugs. I dont know why but those art deco like lugs are just the biggest cherry on the cake i've seen in a long time.

I could not agree any more, the 5172G is truly special, worth every penny & then some. Although under the radar but something people may kick themselve's down the road for overlooking is the 5235G regulator.

It’s a different animal really. And they’re not direct competitors. If you’re in the market for a Patek then that’s your style, same with Lange, they’re just very different sorts of watches. I prefer Patek because they make watches which are more my style, I prefer the more delicate and elegant watches over the more German mechanical stylings of Lange. I feel like too many people try and go how much better Lange is and forget that for some people they’re too big and clunky.

I only compared them as both being luxury, precious metal, two subdial (offset below centre) chronographs with arabic numerals that I probably will never be able to get but you’re right that there are big style differences between them.

@@92Chembo well I think in principle that Lange are a competitor, but their watches are so different in style that it’s hard to imagine someone picking between them, more I’d find someone picking between AP and Patek, or Vacheron Constantin, or Breguet. Watch makes that use more traditional designs, more in line with the early 20th century rather than the more steampunk look of Lange. I’d also recommend looking at H moser and Cie.

They’re both great watches. The Patek is more style with a very good movement. The Lange is more substance with a next level movement which is unmatched.

I'd be interested to know what time only Patek Philippe watch is the most beautiful ever made. You say a Calatrava? O.K. then, which one? For me, the most beautiful Patek Philippe ever made would be the 1941 Reference No. 1503, Movement No. 921.550 in stainless steel, black lacquered dial, and Breguet numerals. It's also the inspiration for the breathtaking Kikuchi Nakagawa Murakumo watch.

First thing to consider in a watch: movement. Second thing, dial. The third thing, lugs. The last and least necessary, the strap.

@@sushimshah2896 Yeah those are interchangeable sometimes. The movement dictates what the watch does however, and also its accuracy. The Zenith and FC flexible mechanism watches for instance have very interesting dials, but poor accuracy due to the movement. (In FC's case, up to 7s per day).

As an owner of 5172G-001 I am very reluctant to recommend the salmon dial to be honest. In my opinion, 5172 is a perfect blend of vintage and sporty vibes that speaks to people at younger age, the salmon dial is stunningly beautiful, but at the same time, I feel like it is way too classy that upset the balance. I would say the 5170 is a much better alternative for a classic PP chronograph. Just my two cents.
