Dune, among other sci-fi works, has indeed been cited as an inspiration for Star Wars. Fun Fact: Composer Hans Zimmer is a big fan of the novel Dune and turned down working with frequent collaborator Christopher Nolan to score this film.

…And, seeing as how 20,000 + years have passed, Zimmer decided every instrument in his soundtrack would be unknown to us, so he INVENTED them ALL and taught his orchestra to play them. The only exception being the bagpipes, which were in the script so he was stuck with them.

Artistic influences flow in both directions. Just as Star Wars was influenced by Dune the book, for Dune Part I the movie, Villeneuve acknowledges his own cinematic indebtedness to past masters (including David Lean's "Lawrence of Arabia", David Lynch's 1984 "Dune" and Coppola's "Apocalypse Now"). But it's clear that the scene here in "Part I" in which the "vision of Jamis" talks Paul into "going with the flow" (which is NOT in Dune the book) is also a direct quote from the scene in the first Star Wars movie itself (when the disembodied voice of Obiwan tells Luke to use the force to guide him to his target...)

In my country, Dune is about 620 pages long. What we see in the film is approximately 400 pages of the first volume. The video was fun, although you can see that some elements have been simplified and shortened. Many of the heroes' thoughts were not included in the film adaptation. I am curious to see how Paul becomes Muad'Dib.

I grew up with the 1984-Film and have a deep apprechiation for it, even now. For all its flaws, it has a lot going for it and it was, at the very least, a noble and ambitious attempt. That being said, what Denis Villeneuve achieved with his version is better in nearly all aspects.

You can’t draw conclusions by just watching the first movie. Wait until you have seen it all before you condemn it. The book is far too much to squeeze into a single movie. That was the problem with the movie they made in the 80’s.

Everyone's performance was brilliant, beautiful cinematography and outstanding set designs.
