Pastel Painting Tutorial ~ Here I share my technique with Water & reflections, one of the most wondering things to paint. I use an easy approach, keeping colours simple and easy to apply.

Here is a list of Caran d ache rich pastel pencils basic colours I use: numbers...
Primary colours...
Reds... 788-060, 080
Yellows... 788- 240, 530, 035
Blue... 788- 145
Orange 788-052
Purple 788-099
Green 788-719
Carbothello pencils are... Olive Green 1400/585, Burnt Umbre 635, Burnt Sienna 670 , lemon yellow 205, yellow ochre 685 and white 100. I don't use this brand's blues as the lightfastness is very poor. so I use Conti a Paris ones for them,... No10, No 06, No 22 and No46. Also the purple red for the deep shadows ... No19
If you can afford it I would recommend buying the sets as the extra colours would be very useful for clothes and backgrounds and can work out cheaper per pencil... affiliate links below.

I’m always blown away by your landscapes! The suggestion of detail is so subtle but amazing. Looking forward to more tips on “how to lose yourself” in your painting, quieting the mind can be a difficult task especially when it thinks it knows what to draw but it’s not what I see lol!

Another amazing painting David. I love to watch your videos. Listening to your voice always soothes me so much. I recently bought some Carbothello pastel pencils based on what I have seen in your videos. I have done one practice piece of a cat just using mostly the primary colours and it turned out Ok. Carbothello's are awesome pencils... just be aware that some blues, reds and purples are terrible lightfastness... that's why I buy those colours from Conti a Paris to replace them. You don't want you hard work fading . 🙏🙏

Thank you! 😊 I used to love working on Sennelier La Carte Pastel Card but if this board gets any moisture on it destroys and lifts off the surface, that is the only reason I stopped using it, it is professional quality so why they haven't sorted this issue out is beyond me. Any other sanded board is worth a go with. 🙏
