I was wondering about this. I remember in elementary art class we would draw with crayon and then wash with watercolor. I was thinking about applying wax or vaseline to a watercolor's image and then doing a wash for background effect. I appreciate your examples. They save me my own trial and failures.

Hi Kathy, Blick's carries wax resist crayons (that you can sharpen) by Susan Scheewe Wax Resist Sticks, under $5.00 US dollars for 4 . Always on backorder tho. I was wondering if Prisma colored pencil blender would work, all the blender is to my knowledge is a colorless pencil and those pencils are sooo waxy, I might give 'em a try. I love learning new things :-) Peace.

Yet another superb training video that shows so well your 20 years experience, which I have close to as well. If I had my way, having taken up WC , Oils (3 years a go) and now Mixed Media and the 'head shaking' disbelief of how bad so many wannabe Art tutors on here are, they would have to watch YOUR KZbins before going live to the public and have someone as good as you, to approve them before doing so. Recently due to finding I seem to have a talent for semi abstract landscape painting purchased a very good Mixed Media artist tutorial video whose style I really like and believe I may do well in. He uses a fair bit of WC and Oil Pastel that really gives some fantastic surfaces but unlike you, rushes the application of how to do so. So thank Michelle, so much for this video plus you reminded me of candle technique as well.
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber 2 жыл бұрын
Ah, thank you! I have no idea what other teachers are doing on KZbin, I rarely watch their videos, I kind of don't want to be influenced by anyone else, or worried I am doing youtube the wrong way, so I just do my thing and put it out there!

@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber I certainly see the wisdom in your thinking. I also have greatly benefited in you doing so as today making use of some of my Paul Rubens Oils Pastels and WC Yellow Ochre & Quin Gold paints for the resist technique, created a really impressive professional looking beach which unlike me, I was well chuffed with.

Favorite tip: regular colored pencils. This one was new to me and sounds very appealing. I also appreciated the reminder that wax resists can be used over dry color. Thanks for posting another great tutorial. 💙🌵

Hello, Michelle - another delightful video. I'm letting you know, "Yes, please" to Dorland's Wax video tutorial. I'd like to see it used in other projects. Would this wax work on a mostly smooth surface? For example, I have various small gemstones in interesting, rounded shapes. I think this wax resist technique, combined with various gemstone shapes could be interesting. I'm just not sure if the wax would work well on a surface much smoother than the leaves you demonstrated. Also, would you apply more wax to get a stronger relief image? Thanks for all you do to help me improve my art. 😁

I can't see why it wouldn't work with gemstones. Give it a try :-) No to the second bit, you want to look at my video on masking fluid printing. It's linked at the end of the Wax Resist video and on the pinned comment. You're very welcome! :-)

Have used Dorland’s Wax as a top coat watercolor preservative but not like your demo. Will give it & the wax candle technique a try sometime. Loved your intro about shoes 👠 vs sandals 🩴 … 😁😁😁

Very clever! Maybe I don't even need to buy masking fluid! I am anxious to try all of these. I want to try a white Crayola as well. I was working on a painting of a Calla lily. The leaves are huge with white dots. I made marks with a white Craypa, and voila, just the look I wanted. Well, I could use a bit more practice in making the dots a bit smaller next time. I love the very practical advice you give. I might figure these things out on my own, but why not take advantage of your many years of experience, and detailed explanation of how to do it.

@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber I did a test with both a white crayola and a piece of candle. The crayola really only good for thin strokes. I had a piece of candle that had been melted, so got some wider strokes. I have learned so much from your tutorials.

I really enjoyed these techniques, they are easy to use for me and basically I cant spill anything.. I think I like the doland wax the best I watched a few ink monoprinting videos as i saw your India ink painting I had a 🌟 thought could I do a watercolor monoprinting back ground to do a layer watercolor technique 🤔 although I really enjoy watching artist do monoprinting with arcylics/ inks and it seemed a messy but beautiful median but I prefer the doland wax a bit better less messy median for me that is going on my xmas wishlist I think if I could find a very small container of the item......👩‍🎨🎨mikelle my mom
