Wow that place is amazing. I've never head of it either. That telescope in the farm house is very nice (the one in your room--no! :)) with a proper guide running that Meade in the farmhouse and it being a clear, moonless night you would be absolutely amazed at what you could see as long as the guide was finding the stuff and explaining what it all is. Book a return trip during a new moon and clear night--a must do sometime. That guy doesn't know what he is talking about when it comes to seals. No seals don't eat 50 mackerel a day. Only someone fibbing to turn public sentiment against seals would say something like that. There have been many studies about the diets of Harbour Seals including some in that area. They typically have the remains of more than 20 species in their stomachs when they are studied with most being species humans do not eat. The percentage of mackerel in their stomachs is miniscule. Another NS bucket list for you--get to Brier Island and hike the short, coastal hike starting at the Coast Guard station on the NE of the island. The seals laying on the rocks there are truly massive and amazing to see. They also have some the best whale watching in North America as well.
