@@muntaybun7690 that would be an okay idea, but the thing is you'd probably want to be quiet in that situation since if it WAS a shooter, asking them that would notify them that people were definitely inside.

@@inviisible This is also true. Mainly I wanted to give an alternative to the situation over just trusting someone saying it is the police and running out like they did. With them running out and taking the chance I am guessing they were there long enough to make the judgement call that it had a high probability of being the police and not the shooter. In reality a lot of the trainings for shooters for workers in my office was a matter of situation, gut feelings, and judgement calls at the time. Similar to how when a shooting happens you have to decide between running from the sounds of a possible shooter or hiding. Every shooter situation is different and has different calls that you have to make in the moment to ensure you make it to safety either with yourself, coworkers, or family/friends.

Every time I go to a public place, I’m on edge. I’m looking at exit signs and body language and the environment around me. I always remind myself “today it could be me”… I have nightmares about active shooters. I’m not safe in America. This real epidemic is gun violence. It’s currently the leading cause of death for children. If you live in the U.S. please vote for restricting gun laws. It’s worked in other countries like Australia and and Canada it can help make this country a safer place. Thank you for sharing your experience. Everyone thinks “it won’t happen to me”. But it can. I come from the UK, so I can't imagine how you guys in the US must feel with these events happening on a frequent basis. I'm so sorry for what you have went through with your family - and I'm especially sorry for Enzo. No child should have to go through that when they're so young and haven't even had the chance to enjoy their life; I'd thank whoever had let him live unharmed. But child or not, no one should experience this tragedy at all. Please, get some rest, take care of yourself, and make time for things that make you smile. Speaking about your trauma and feelings on a video can be quite therapeutic, so that's a good step forward. Again, please take care of yourself, hope you and your family feel better soon.

I'm so happy your family and community are safe. Wishing you all love and safety processing this traumatic event. After seeing your Ig stories, I quickly looked up the news on it and found little information. One article (wrongly) citied the shots as "accidental." We have what it takes to change this, if only the right people would listen.

They’re all swept under the rug unless the number is big enough or someone important enough was effected. Glad your'e safe, also glad that it sounds like nobody got hurt. A 19 year old should not have access to an AR-15. Civilians don't need weapons that can spray that many bullets in one go. Those things were designed as murder machines for active war zones. (Fuck Imperialism) I don't judge people if they feel the need to own a pistol, hunting rifle, or a revolver for personal self/home defense. But those are One Bullet At A Time, Use Sparingly type of weapons. Wholly incapable of the kind of maiming that an AR-15 could do. Went through something similar with my partner recently also at a US mall.. he's a Hottopic manager and I'm between jobs at the moment- and usually I would go with friends to the mall during his shifts so it would be easier to meetup afterwards. The one day I decided to stay home due to a particularly early shift maybe 2 weeks ago- he blew up my phone and the first thing I saw from him was "someone has a gun". He's at work. Apparently he was one of the employees having to escort people out the back, he even ran back into the mall to retrieve things and make sure everyone was out, had to redirect crying children and mothers who were separated during the rush and help people down the concrete stairs. Once it came out it was a false alarm (there were unpermitted and now banned confetti canons) he continued work as expected. Came home and broke down. Genuinely so traumatizing and not a single person deserves to go through that. my 20 year old partner didn't - but especially an 8-year old. I'm so sorry.

This happened on 4th of July this year for me. It was my first time ever going without a parental figure to watch the fireworks. It was all going well and me and my siblings were having fun. But some fight started (later discovered there was no guns) far away from us. And I turn my head and this lady screams something in Spanish and pushed her baby cart and grabs her children and suddenly her and everyone else is just RUNNING. We were in a city we didn't live in. My eldest brother stood stunned for a moment before telling us all to run. It was terrifying running through the streets dragging my sister and chasing my brother. It was my first ever experience with something like that. Families got separated, people were running through every street. I'd never seen anything like it before. My heart wouldn't stop beating. I experienced my first adrenaline rush. I was left shaking and my sister was left petrified and crying and coughing because she was forced to run way harder than she was used to. It was so terrifying that I left my grandmother's the next day with my sister and haven't been back since. Even thinking about it kind of makes me forget to breathe. I remember hearing someone frantically use their cell phone trying to contact their mother and cousins. I remember a man asking us why we were running and I just told him to "go home" and he turned right around and ran with us like he was used to it. I was terrified we were being followed everytime the people around us rushed ahead. It felt like there was some hidden bullet waiting to lodge itself into my back at any moment. I could hardly breathe waiting for that sharp pain. We went home, turned out all the lights. And closed all the windows. We HID the whole night just in case the shooter was prowling the nearby streets for stragglers. It's telling how quickly everyone assumed a gun was involved when a fight started. But I also heard people yell things like "fire" and "dead body" so that DID NOT help. It also didn't help that most of the runners were yelling in short sentences or in spanish.

I am so thankful everyone was safe physically. I also hope your family will be able to mentally recover from this as best as can be done. I'm seventeen and the gun culture in the United States disgusts me. My schools had active shooter drills monthly starting in kindergarten. In middle school, there was a power outage, and I realised that if someone had cut the power on purpose, there would be no way for the staff to warn each other. I have done active shooter training three times for minimum wage jobs. Luckily nothing ever happened while I was in my stores, but one day I did get a call not to come in because there was a situation similar to yours (shots fired, after the investigation it was found there were no injuries). I also wanted to mention that in active shooter training, we were absolutely permitted from opening the door unless the person knocking identified themselves as an officer and showed us their badge. If you remember the officers names that found your group, I'd suggest reporting them. These officers being unclear must've made things so much scarier, and could've had a worse ending. No one should have to deal with this bullshit. Let alone the mostly teenagers who work retail and get paid poverty wages. The politically powerful in our country need to make big changes.

im gonna admit, im 11 but i have a story about my school. so basically, it was a Wednesday morning at like 11am, and we were at recess (5th grade). We saw someone walking through the side door of the building. everyone thought it was fine, because you need a key to get in, and they had one. my friend Lia saw a red stain on the persons shirt, and were in white. so we kept playing on the swings until the 1st grade class whom was having lunch came outside and kind of burst into our recess. the teachers were holding up quiet coyotes, and while the door were open we heard: "BANG BANG.. BUAAAUAUAAUAUUAUAUAUUNG!" and everyone knew at that point. everyone started crying. my friends little sister said that a girl was in the bathroom. everyone was huddled together outside, and the radio finally made noise and i remember i heard a boy in my grades voice saying on a radio: "its a paintball gun" the cops came and gave him a 5,000$ dollar fine for pranking the school. unfortunately, 3 kids jumped out of the windows and ran away to their own houses (i would have to). but they came back, and nobody died. every day, i see kids double check their locker, and anxiously look at the windows and corners and doors of the room. now, people cant get inside of the school building in school hours, even students or staff. even prank or not, its still traumatizing. i wish nobody went through this. when i turn 18, im moving somewhere. i cant deal in a country who has a gun-violence-allowed law.

I’m so glad that this family was okay and safe, but the amount of families who are not after incidents like this needs to change. I am genuinely so disappointed in myself, last year a kid asked me when I was in school if a gun was visible from his backpack and I said no and immediately froze. I was genuinely so scared and planning to go into the restroom to call the cops but I didn’t. Luckily it was a water gun but if that hadn’t been the case, I wonder what could have happened. Please, if you see something say something. It doesn’t matter if it’s fake and then you’re called a snitch, you life matters so much! And if you know someone who has thought about doing that please call the cops, it is not a joke even if they meant it as one
