We're Taking The GMC Syclone on Hot Rod Power Tour 2024!

I've been bouncing back and forth on what to take on the 2024 Hot Rod Power Tour this year, do I take the 1979 AMC Spirit AMX again? It's already done 3 Long Haul Power Tours in a row, does it have anything left to prove? Well what about the 1970 Pontiac LeMans? It's already got that big bad Pontiac 455 under the beautiful patina hood. But, it's also already been on a Pour Tour Long Haul already. It's also gotten slightly notorious for killing fuel pumps. It's also not quite so great on fuel, getting about 14mpg.
Well the answer is, neither of those. Both the old school hot rods are staying home, and I'm going to take my daddy's little black truck. This year, with everything going on, we're going to take the 1991 GMC Syclone for the Long Haul. This is an all original low mileage truck we have owned since it was brand new, and it's time to let it get some wind in it's hair. While it IS all stock and original it does need some love and attention. So let's get to work to get this ready for the road!

Perfect choice, I've always loved those lil trucks. You're dad will be proud. My son bought 4 tires that exact size less than a year ago for his foxbody Mustang. Discount tire got them in less than a week. Cool seeing Bill and Vicki's Elcamino in the background lol.

That's actually NOT their El Co though it certainly looks it! Not many people are doing high performance 16 inch tires these days so finding a set has become harder and harder. I'm definitely excited to get this little thing out on the highways and byways to give it some adventures, even if my Dad can't be riding along beside me.

Please change those tires. If you take a chance with the ones that are on it you could mess up the truck. I had one that shredded and blew apart. Also took half of the fender with it too. Nice of a vehicle to take the chance

A little off topic here. In several of yours and Rich's videos there is an old Chevy van in the background. In this video I noticed it has the old teardrop windows. Is there a story behind it or does it belong to a customer?

Happy birthday! In 2017 my family took our cars, or dad's cars because my sisters don't have their own, and we did Tour Nebraska, a 600 mile drive with 400 old cars around Nebraska. Dad passed in 2020, and 17 was the last time we were all able to be together. Enjoy the time you get with your dad. I might do HRPT next year, or sometime when I get something with AC running.
