4:49 Tip for not hitting the sides back and forth. When getting in, try not to disturb the water too much, creating currents. Two, once you're lying down, hold both your arms to the side and touch the walls to center yourself to stop moving.

This sounds so relaxing and peaceful, but I think I would find it hard to stop thinking about things while I was in there too. I also have anxiety, so I might want to have it not be completely dark since I have an overactive brain sometimes and I may start to overthink things. But at the same time, being visually impaired sometimes it’s better to have the lights off. I definitely want to try it though, it sounds like a cool experience. 🌟☺️❇️❤️

I was just looking at you tube videos on this. My husband's aunt told me about this as we just moved to NC. This is going to be my first time doing this and have been a little nervous about doing this since I'm not a swimmer and always have had a fear of drowning. My birthday is tomorrow so this is a gift from my husband who says I work too hard and always put others first. Thank you for sharing your experience it has me so excited to go and I hope to enjoy this gift.

I’ve done this many times. Your first couple times are weird, but as you become comfortable you will be able to totally zen out and meditate. I often would fall asleep. I had these low tones playing as the sound and was able to meditate by focusing on the sounds.

Took my, then girlfriend, to float works about 15 years ago. I remember my brain going into total overdrive for the first 5 minutes, but then completely dropping out to nothing. It looked a whole lot different back then too.

There's one of these places just down the road from my house. I've always wanted to try it. You've given me the push. I imagine the salt density in the water is what helps you float and keep from sinking, just like in The Dead Sea or the Great Salt Lake. And I live just a few miles from the Great Salt Lake and have never tried that either

I would be like Edina on in the episode of Absolutely Fabulous when she had one of those installed in her bedroom bathroom. She was only in for about 5 minutes and thought it was like 2 hours. I really don't think I would like it unless I left the lid up. I tried using a tanning bed once and after a few minutes I had to get out, bit of claustrophobia thanks to a nun that was my first grade teacher, worried woman.

It would be cool if they had the galaxy of stars on the lid, like a planetarium. And also the option to hook up your phone to play your own music or podcast. For me, baths are not relaxing without external stimulation.

I have a friend that used to go to a floatation center over thirty years ago in SF. He absolutely loved it, but the sensory deprivation tank he described was metal and sounded narrower (more industrial or experimental) than those nice big, wide, white ones in London. They've come a long way! Yours look more user friendly, spa-like and inviting!

I remember my dad and brother doing one after a ski trip in Vail in like 1982. I'm claustrophobic and the description alone was enough to make me say NOPE! Even though these pods seemed worlds away from the ones they described, I still don't think i could be in the pod. Maybe with it open, though. I love sensory deprivation.

You don't need to turn your mind off, thoughts come and go until the inner chatter stops by itself. During a float session the part of your brain responsible for all that inner chatter quietens... Never try and force yourself to relax it doesn't work.

Have they always called it, "Floatation Therapy" in the UK? I like that more than the US term, which is just "Sensory Deprivation". This kind of thing s good for people who meditate and have been doing so for a while, I think. Once you can completely still your mind, it's a whole other experience.

Even if you don't relax your mind you are giving it a chance to process thoughts that your mind wants to process, think of it as a mental clear out.

Good grief...Lia darling..you just completely missed the whole point and missed out on the experience by talking, filming, turning the light on and off, sitting up etc. That's too bad really. I don't mean to be unkind at all because I adore you but geez...that was a total waste of money on Joel's part.

You were not in a sensory deprivation tank. There is no light, sound etc. and the salt content is so high that you cannot feel the water around you. If your mind is not in the proper frame of mind, you could suffer a catastrophic outcome that can wreak havoc on your mental well-being for the rest of your life. If you want to see what real sensory deprivation is like, watch the 1980 R-rated movie "Altered States" directed by Ken Russell and written by Paddy Chayefsky.
