I drank the fabled "3 quarts to one gallon of milk" off and on for many years. Yes, I gained weight...that was the positive. I also developed a sensitivity to milk, which caused excess mucous production and congested sinuses. No digestive issues, so I wasn't lactose intolerant...but the excessive consumption of milk clearly created a negative condition, which manifested in my thirties. I'm 68 now...and can occasionally indulge in milk, notably chocolate milk, which I take 1 pint as a post-workout pick me up. Any more than that and the congestion and phlegm reappears.

I've had skinny hardgainers ask me what they can do to gain weight. They say they have added mass gainer supplements, because they have a hard time eating enough, but still aren't adding weight. So I ask them what they eat, and they say "oh, yesterday I had chicken breast and broccoli and a little rice, but it's hard to eat enough". Well, gee, food for fat people in a caloric deficit is hard to eat enough of? Who woulda thunk it! So when I suggest they eat like a fat person instead and use breaded chicken thighs, protein shakes with whole milk or a splash of full fat cream, thick crust pizza, loads of full fat cheese, crisps with dips, potatoes fried in oil, babyback ribs with bbq sauce, salmon with full fat sour cream, a beer with every meal, and ice cream and cheesecake for dessert every day, they say "I hadn't thought about that." 🤔 Adding weight is damn easy.

Milk is the line. All those desserts, and definitely those beers, are just going to needlessly antagonize muscle growth. Who cares if you are putting on weight when half of it is on your belly?
@dradeel
@dradeel 4 жыл бұрын
@@matthewmchenry2889 How are those desserts gonna antagonize muscle growth? 🙄 Same dairy as milk, and plenty of calories for someone with a very poor appetite to fuel their weight gain. Strongmen use cheesecake and ice cream specifically for weight gain and maintenance, because they crave energy dense foods to fuel their massive bodies. And beer have carbs for energy. Some beer lovers drink beer specifically before training instead of sugary energy drinks, because that way they earn it. Nothing muscle antagonistic about any of it, if you actually train. If you're afraid of the "estrogenic" effects from beer, skip the hops or drink something else. It doesn't matter! Remember, no one is saying normal dudes should try to balloon up to 400 lbs and become sacks of lard. We're specifically talking skinny guys with almost no fat cells to trigger their stomach and brain for hunger, that subsequently have a very hard time shoveling their face with enough food to support any muscle gains, despite decent protein intake, and that typically also eat weight loss foods and wonder why it's so hard for them to eat enough. These people exist! The trick for these people isn't to eat more, but to cleverly switch out low energy dense foods with high energy dense foods, so that they don't have to force feed to get into a caloric surplus! They simply have to do the opposite of what fat people should do. Everything I listed are real and nutritious foods (maybe with the exception of crisps and dip, but it's probably the easiest way to add a fuckton of energy out of them all), and if you train hard and have enough proteins, these foods will aid in the goal of building muscle and maintaining an ever increasing caloric expenditure. This is essentially what you must do if you wanna gain weight the smart way. Did I say you have to eat everything all the time? Did I say you should try to gain fat? No! Don't be stupid. You switch out some low energy dense foods with equivalent high energy dense alternatives (while you don't skimp on proteins) until you can support weight gain and build muscle without ballooning. This is pretty easy.
