I would add a fourth characteristic: mindset...i don’t think Lasha’s consistency on the platform in terms of number of lifts made to attempted can be overlooked. I think this is as much a product of his mental focus (and likely coaching) as anything else.

To put it in fewer words: flexibility and speed determines many times how much an athlete can lift in proportion to his bodyweight by utilizing his strength more efficiently.

I think among super heavyweights Lasha outperforms them in almost every field. It's rather difficult to gauge his real strength since he only posts snippets of his training but the only guy who squatted far above anything we've seen Lasha do is Mart Seim. His pulls and muscle snatched seem quite a bit 'weaker' however. Compared to Gors heaviest squats on video, Lasha seems to move similar or the same weights more effortless and I'm certain no one comes even close in pulling strength. And regarding speed, explosive power and athleticism it's no contest.

I made the same remark longtime ago and some people did not understood what i meant. Having an ok technique to make the lift is enough. It is not a ballet where you get extra points for perfect form. At the highest level, strength is the deciding factor. Not technique.

Lasha is certainly a very impressive lifter. But whilst talking about his Athleticism, it also has to be acknowledged he is carrying a very unimpressive belly around with him too. Back in the 70s the strongest lifter was Vasily Alexeyev, who created a great stir through the weights he could C & J, and also his vast belly. He made very impressive numbers, but didn’t do the image of the sport any favours with such a large waistline, which was presumably a result of the force-feeding required for him to be able to lift so much? I suppose the same applies to Lasha?
@kaliningradtoczechrepublic8162

why do you care so much about the aesthetics of a weightlifter? Only the numbers matter… this is no beauty contest
@VincentComet-l8e
@VincentComet-l8e 2 жыл бұрын
@@kaliningradtoczechrepublic8162 In this case it is certainly no beauty contest, but aesthetics are basic to just about every human being. Not many would want to distort themselves out of shape so badly that onlookers stare in disbelief. That’s just obvious, and hardly needs mentioning. More fundamental is WHY some champion lifters need to go to such extremes - is it not possible to build muscle without such undesirable results? And it hardly needs mentioning that carrying so much excess - especially round the waist - is going to be extremely unhealthy, and unsustainable.

@@VincentComet-l8e I get what you're saying but I don't think this applies to SHW at all man. If you want to be aesthetic, if you care about aesthetics, get behind another weight division instead. You answered that question yourself- no, it isn't really possible to build so much muscle without being in a massive caloric surplus. What's that squat dude- Ray Johnson? Holds the ATWR with it raw. He's also another massive unit. If you want to be the strongest human ever you will not look or be particularly healthy. That's just it, that's how it is.

Alexev 1976 oly. C&J 260kg that's not 40 kg more. Its not a pissing contest, I Truely believe he can do 600# before he retires if his back hold up. That's what's important. Alexev was a different era, his county/USSR was stupid forgiving him bonuses when he would break a record. That's why he would only break his record by .5 kg at a time. So we really will never know his true ability at his peak potential. I just don't want Lasha to have similar situation take away from his potential. I want to see 600 # an he's the worlds best bet for this generation
