Yes, we have wireless internet. No, you do not need your US passport to come here. No, we don't all know how to surf and do hula. Oh, no you’re right...yes, in fact we do communicate via coconut, how did you know!? And ok since you insist that you know better than me, a local, then I guess we do live in grass shacks. Sure. Krystal B what factors? How is this up for debate? It’s on state maps, but hey have stars on the flag, they get to vote. It’s not something you can agree or disagree with. They are part of the US. That’s just a fact.
@krystalb6614 жыл бұрын
Tori Miguel they accept that it’s a state but don’t believe it should be. It’s not like they don’t know that it isn’t, it’s just that they don’t believe it should be. Firstly, Hawaii was its own independent nation and many argue that because of military occupations it still should be. And secondly, many people disagree with the actions that led Hawaii to be annexed by the US. John Green is actually one of the people who deny the legality of Hawaii being a state. As for Alaska, this tends to be more of forgetfulness because Alaska is so separated and US culture/society doesn’t affect them as heavily. This is why you’ll see people say “Hawaiians and Alaskans” rather than American sometimes.

It's one of the few fields where it's so blatant and shrugged off too. I guess because people have that stereotypical tech support image so ingrained into their mind (even some people within the field have that view too, though I don't know how common that is). While it only happened to me maybe once or twice (I worked in a company where everybody knew who I was and was lovely, it was usually visitors or outside callers who would be like this), I have stories like this from my buddies and the few times it did happen to me were almost cartoonish (such as when somebody asked me when tech support was coming...when I'd announced that I was there and was half-way through repairing the computer; that was a good one).

I answer and the man asks for “the guitar guy”. I told him we don’t have anyone in specifically for guitars and said something along the lines of “but I could be your guitar guy, how can I help you?” For some reason that set him on a weird transphobic/sexist rant saying I couldn’t be a guitar guy and I sound like a woman and how he is tired of women wanting to be men and vice versa. I put him on hold and called my boss over because he was closest to me and said “some douche on line 1 for you” and walked away. All that for the word “guy”

This guy calls and I pick up the phone (and I honestly can't remember what he was asking for) but I knew I couldn't answer his question so I told him to wait on hold while I got my supervisor (a fellow woman) and he refused to speak to her... just straight up told her that he was done talking to women and wanted to speak to a man. So we proceeded to get the only man at the front office to take this call and give the guy the EXACT same answer my supervisor already gave. So...it's possible Fun side note: guy would have been out of luck if he had called a week earlier, the guy he spoke with was our new boss in training and had just started....our old boss was female

I've had a lot of weird/bad customers in my life, mostly in small towns, but there's one story that stands out. I was working at Walmart putting out picks when this thin older white lady with glasses came up to me. She wanted to know where the plain Ruffle chips were, so I took her to the place where all of the Pepsico-owned chips sat. She stated that she needed 1 normal sized bag of plain Ruffles. We had regular sized bags of the bacon & ranch flavour, a dill pickle one, and buffalo wings, but no plain Ruffles. Always trying to turn no's into maybes, I pointed out the 6 pack of snack-sized bags of regular Ruffles, she was not having it. That's when out of the corner of my eyes I spotted a party size bag; That was a bag that was 1.5x the size of a normal bag. I picked it up and said, "Here's something!" I thought I'd found the perfect substitution, I was getting ready to pat myself on the back then, the woman clutched her purse in a sort of self-hug, she angrily exhaled and squeaked "I'M NOT ALLOWED TO BUY THAT! I'm not having a party!" I calmly said "No, no, it's not exclusively for parties, it's just 1.5 times the size of a normal bag...." and she stormed off, assuring me that my manager will hear about this. What did this woman think would happen? Are the secret police gonna knock down her door and demand proof that she's having a party?

As someone from New Mexico, the Hawaii one is totally plausible. I've been told that I speak English really well for a Mexican, asked if I had a green card, and had internet orders cancelled because "we don't ship internationally." And this is a pretty common experience. New Mexico magazine has a regular feature called "One of our 50 is Missing" about this. Some Americans really don't know that much about their country.

As a Hamilton fan it annoys me when people act as if it’s historically accurate. It is to some extent but it isn’t supposed to be perfect.
@chada48064 жыл бұрын
Okay sooooooo.... (warning i drag on) After watching Lin Manuel Miranda's interview with the collegeboard (for APUSH review) I was genuinely surprised to see how much effort he put into preserving the historical accuracy, while also being forced to summarize 40 years of history in around 2 hours. Pretty much, Lin admitte that he took a few of creative/dramatic liberties but many of them seem to be an interpenetration of real events that have either no or no unbiased source. Also (iirc) historical fiction is when you have a fictionalized story take place in a non-fiction setting. For example, All Quiet on the Western Front is historical fiction (even though many parts of the book are based on Remarque's experiences) because the characters didn't exist. However, Hamilton can't really be considered a historical fiction because the characters in Hamilton, DID exist. Personally, I think of it as a more biographical piece of entertainment. Yes, dramatic liberties are taken but no, it isn't ENTIRELY inaccurate and can be an actual good place to develop an interest in history. ps. I'm not in APUSH yet, (I'm in AP euro) but I watched the interview because I am genuinely interested in theater and US history (why I'm taking APUSH next year) Sorry for the long-winded comment lmao. :p

Also kids would definitely be curious about tattoos if they dont know anyone with tattoos. The editing staff also often mess with the original submitter’s wording for some reason. (Sometimes the person who submitted the story will pop into the comments and say what was changed)
@InuKun20084 жыл бұрын
Jarvis, that last one is somewhat believable, given how when I worked at a Blockbuster Video back in 1999-2000, we would frequently get people returning the VHS and DVD cases of things like Disney titles, but with a porn video inside. So we would wait until just before closing and swap out the Blockbuster promo video (Basically a every other month release VHS tape with music videos and clips from upcoming films) with the porn tape, allowing anyone in the store to suddenly hear women moaning over the ceiling embedded speakers (which gave plenty of male customers at around midnight a case of mild whiplash as they suddenly jerked their heads towards one of the multiple TVs throughout the store). We would then wait until the next day to call said customer and leave a message on their answering machine to let them know that they had returned the wrong video and that it would not be checked in until they returned the correct tape to us (meaning late fees in many cases).
@Spamhard4 жыл бұрын
But it was a DVD not a tape. DVDs very rarely start in the middle (unless it's a specific sort of dvd player that's got some sort of memory feature and can remember where it last left off, at which point it's the PLAYER not the dvd thats got that memory), that's sort of the point of DVDs; you don't rewind them after every watch, they always start at the start and had menus and chapter selects. So yeah, the story is still unbelievable. Even if the guy in the story DID have a dvd player that could playback from the last scene, he said he couldn't get it to work so hadn't watched a dvd on it for it to remember where he got to on the dvd.

I'm from Alaska, and I worked as the manager of a tourist shop for like 5 seasons, and I literally cannot even count all the people who asked if we accept American money. So many people literally thought Alaska was part of Canada Lots of those same people would also chase bear cubs trying to get photos

does anybody else hate the facial expressions in these comics, specifcally how the lips are drawn? update: i scrolled thru the page myself and found a genuinely horrible comic that i'm surprised wasn't in the video. basically a customer asks for a non-fat shake, calls the barista fat, so the barista adds tons of extra stuff to the shale to make it >4,000 calories. it's almost certainly fake, sure, but tampering with an order is still an appalling thing to endorse.

I follow the original notalwaysright page, and it's believable, stuff that would happen in retail for sure. The comic page and the new... Uh... Text chats that you see in Hooked app or whatever... Those are awful. Hate em

It’s weird. Like... the art is objectively better than what I could do. Way better. The character designs and backgrounds are pretty well done. Colors are good. But then, the angles are sometimes kind of off, and it makes me uncomfortable? And the expressions, even of the “good” character are uncanny and irritating?

It's like the (hopefully fake) story I saw about someone putting cow milk into a vegetarian milk shake because consumer was an asshole. Who cares about lactose intolerance? People always choose vege drinks because they're vegetarians. No other reasons needed

>Comic: "I'd like to purchase these items, please." >Jarvis: "No one has ever said that!" I actually used to work at my college's campus store, and there was one guy that came in to buy something snacky for breakfast almost every day, and he legit said _exactly_ that to me every single time I rang him up. It actually made me a bit uneasy; I'd thought he was joking around at first but it just kept happening. It wasn't a language divide as far as I could tell, either. He looked like a completely normal Caucasian dude with a Midwest American accent. One coworker and I privately joked about him being a robot in disguise, and that he wasn't quite sure how human syntax works.
