mr. scott, I just wanted to thank you for providing this fantastic content for free.

Thank you for the kind remarks. I appreciate them. We will launch a web site in the future that will basically be a library of training and technique videos but will definitely continue to do this KZbin channel with the same content we now have (and hopefully improve on what we are doing). I really enjoy doing this and am pleased that you find value in it. It's funny how this channel was started. About 5 or 6 years ago, Mike Pennington, one of our black belts (who appears in our videos often) gave me a small Bloggie video camera and told me that he thought I should video what we do in our workouts and use them as a teaching tool for KZbin. It really hadn't occurred to me to do that but Mike had a great idea-and that is how this whole thing got started. Mike was right. This channel has proven to be a good teaching tool and has become popular with a broad audience. We really do try to provide fundamentally sound and technically innovative skills and information on our channel and value everyone who watches it. Please tell others about us and thanks again for watching.

Your videos are awesome as always. You explain the techniques well and have variations to them. Some times some videos have one variation and people think that is the only way to apply them. This is why I subscribed to your channel. Thanks again for the great material.

Thank you Anthony! I agree with your statement that some people think there is only one way to apply a technique. As my coach Maurice Allan told me many years ago: "Make the technique work for you."

Great video!Great explanations and great variations!I just went crazy with the side angle/cross body Uchi-Mata.Actually it's the "leg style" uchi-mata variation of Kosei Inoue.The timing is the same,the stepping is the same.

Thank you for your comments Dimitris. Having that Uchi Mata compared to a guy like Inoue is a real compliment! Thanks for watching our channel and please tell others about us.
@diang19847 жыл бұрын
welcomematstevescott well the timing and the stepping is the same.Placement in Inoue Uchi Mata is different because it was mostly based on hip .This is pure "leg style" Uchi Mata

I scored ippon with uchimata in a competition at the weekend. I was really pleased to land it, I've been working on building the technique for a while.

Fantastic! Nothing like planting a guy for an Ippon. Congratulations to you for your good result, but just as important, for all the hard work you put into making it happen.

I think between drilling it at the club and watching a heap of videos by great judoka on uchimata and ways to set it up, something must have stuck. It felt good whilst I was doing it, but the video was somewhat more spectacular than I initially realised. I have a copy of it if you'd like to see it. I'd appreciate a critique from a well practised judoka like yourself as well!

I looked at this several times. Excellent Uchi Mata by the way. You moved your opponent backward (for him) and as you did, you led with your right foot and leg which you planted on the mat to serve as your pivot foot. Good use of body movement in a straight line on your part (this is a classic example of Shintai.) That right foot of yours then served as the pivot point and you spun your left leg back deeply behind and outside of your opponent's body. This set up an effective leg style Uchi Mata. Your right leg was driven up so deeply that it initially appears that you might have used more hip action but upon examination, it was your right leg that did the work as the axis of the throw. It appears from the video that the axis point on your leg was somewhere close to your right thigh-which is quite high up the leg for a leg style Uchi Mata. This is why your opponent appears to have been thrown mostly over your hip. Excellent use of the leg style Uchi Mata. By the way, your initial set up with your hands and arms was quite good. When doing the leg style Uchi Mata, the Tsurikomi (Lift-Pull) action of your hands is not quite as important as when you use your hip as the pivot point or axis of the throw. Good skill in the throw. This is why Judo is so much fun.

Thanks for your comment. Glad you like the Uchi Mata video! We have a Tai Otoshi video scheduled for viewing on Dec. 3. It is an analysis of the use of the feet and legs as well as the use of the hands and arms and will show several different Tai Otoshi variations.

I have 2 question: if uchimata can be effective against a taller opponent ... and if the UNDERHOOK uchimata can work in this way ... Thanks
@welcomematstevescott7 жыл бұрын
Most definitely yes to both questions. Often, a leg style or spinning Uchi Mata works well on taller opponents. We have some videos on that on our channel. Any type of effective tie-up (underhook included) has good success with Uchi Mata.
@mirkoparagano17447 жыл бұрын
And do you think about the hip uchimata? Have you a video about this? Thank you very much

would you guys be able to show the front uranage/uchi mata? cheers for the video, I especially like the one step uchi mata
@welcomematstevescott8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. We have a video on Kakage Nage, that is similar to what you may be looking for. While it's not exactly the front Uchi Mata, it is close. These throws are popular in sambo and you might want to look up any of our videos that feature what we call a "front thigh lift" or "leg lift" throws. Also, look up what we have on the Kharbarelli throw and this might be of interest to you. Since you asked, we will get something on the front Uchi Mata on the channel in the future. We enjoy practicing throws like you describe, so this gives us a good reason to do them again.

Hi sensei, good video. I hope everything is good with you and your club. I have another request if I may ask. I know your club teaches gi-based techniques most of the time in almost all your videos but I was wondering if you can upload one no-gi video for now. This no-gi video should be about what throws or takedowns one can execute using the Over & Under clinch or 50-50. If you feel like it sensei, you can cover Double Overhooks and Double Underhooks if you like. Thanks again sensei especially for that intelligent reply from that Sumi Otoshi video. I wanted to add something to it but couldn't find enough time. I hope to do that soon. Thanks again sensei. I hope this request will spark an interest.

We have a video featuring John Saylor doing some underhook as well as underhook and head tie-ups for O Uchi Gari (and some other throws as well). I will move it up in the play order so we can get it on the channel pretty quick.

Look for it Dec. 1. It's Pummel to O Uchi Gari with John Saylor. The video was made at our Shingitai training camp in Perrysville, Ohio and features John Saylor coaching underhook as well as other tie-ups into O Uchi Gari as well as some other throws.

We are planning some more Uchi Mata videos, but you might check out on our playlist for Koshi Waza or Te Waza. We did videos on the "traditional" Uchi Mata using the Tsurikomi action and Tsurikomi Goshi action in the past. I will check for a specific name on this video and post it a bit later.
