Best thing I done to my 3406C was converted it over to a B model!! It's supposed to be 425 horsepower but it pulls right with my 3406E @550 horsepower with very little smoke. The thing that truck owners should do is flip the bird to California and any other state that makes these laws for a repower to be legal and refuse to go into their jurisdictions! Wouldn't be long before all of the shelves would be empty and they'd be singing a different tune! I was going to go help with the fire clean ups until I found out about all of the crap that I'd have to go through and do. They can live with their own problems that they create for themselves.

I operate under the premise that I owe no one an explanation about my tools. When someone wants to borrow something I lie, pure and simple. "Don't have one, sorry." People who want to borrow your tools have spent their money on bullshit. They have no respect for the value of our tools or what we went without to have them. You seldom get your tools back, if you get them back at all, from a borrower, in the same condition the tool was in when you lent it. So screw tool borrowers. "Sorry, I don't have one."

Drove a 9900i for awhile that had an ISX. Engine tag rated hp @450. But the facility that serviced it told me the injectors were upgraded to 500+hp. It ran like it, too. Got good fuel economy, and ran. Hard running truck, but rode like the axles were tied to the frame..

"Friends" like those, aren't friends, been burned a few times myself, lost a few "so called" friends that really weren't friends. Their loss not mine, my only loss was the cost of the $$$ to replace what they broke of mine. I stopped loaning out my tools!! If I borrow a tool, I return it in the same or better shape than I received it, I also return as soon as I'm done with it. I've never been one to borrow, have had to a few times though. Purchased what I needed later as money came in for it. You're definitely one helluva mechanic, "craftsman" and it shows. Truly enjoy your video's Warren. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series on this old girl. Cheers :)

I took the guard off my 4 inch grinder too. Was cutting a piece of metal with it using one of those thin blades. It kicked back on me and split the end of my thumb to the bone. After doctoring on myself for an hour(wouldn't stop bleeding)I put it back on never to be taken off again. Has since healed but sore as hell. Every time I bump it on something I think about that stupid guard. Gonna be a lot of work but I have confidence in your ability to make it so. Fab on my friend fab on..... DEF reduces performance and millage thereby causing you to use more fuel to do the same work and the result is putting more carbon in the air. How is this a solution to emitting carbon when you have to use up more fuel? The def tanks, the pumps, the maintenance are all creating more emissions.

You're exactly right! My old 12 valve Cummins gets 25 miles per gallon driving down the highway and my buddies newer Cummins gets 12 to 14 miles per gallon. More fuel more emissions not to mention twice as much fuel needs to be produced, refined, and transported! And then they have to manufacture all of the emissions equipment which has to be replaced or repaired which causes more pollution!

My understanding is soon, California will no longer register/plate CMV's older than 2010. As per this video, am I to assume that re-powering older chassis with 2010 and newer engines is now an option? My 2003 Intl 9400i has one of the very last non-EGR Detroit Diesel 12.7L Series 60 engines ever built which I just had rebuilt March 2016. I'll be damned if I'm going through all this just so my 2003 truck meets 2020 emissions. My driving career will end at 37 years and that will be it, give up CDL's and walk away. Us owner-operators won't be able to stay in business with all these new emissions rules.

Just trying to understand.mthanks
@james1307oak
@james1307oak 5 жыл бұрын
Newer Diesel engines have whats called Re-Gen capabilities. that blue tank is fluid that is injected into the exhaust when it reaches a certain temperature to burn out soot and other emissions caught in that DPF filter. (that big tank thing that was welded that will become the passenger side step. It has a big honey combed filter inside that acts like a catalytic converter on a gas car)
@crazyjdkid
@crazyjdkid 5 жыл бұрын
@@james1307oak Close. The DEF fluid is sprayed into the exhaust stream constantly to convert NOx gases to less harmful Nitrogen and water.The DPF Filter captures the black smoke/soot it the filter and the machine periodically does regens to burn off this soot in the filter. It just dumps large amounts of fuel into the exhaust stroke to heat up the exhaust.They are two separate operations that do attack different part of the emissions. Both are a big headache and kill reliability. But honestly the filter is a bigger headache than the fluid.
