My uncle owns a huge dairy farm in Arizona with all kinds of equipment and a fleet of bottom dump trucks to relocate all the manure. Never saw even one of his pieces of equipment washed. His dairy work day started at 4am and ended around 9pm usually seven days a week.

I always add a bit on for customers who bring my really dirty machines like this! I had to do a clutch change on a tractor that was a slurry scraper in a dairy. Everything was thick in dried on shit and everything was corroded and seized. Took over twice as long to do than a clutch on a relatively clean machine. Once sent one away to be steam cleaned before working on. Spending the day covered in cow shit was not on my list of favourite things to do!

I always charge for cleanup. Customers hate it until they try to clean it themselves.

When doing a clutch I charge to clean out the cab floor from all the chicken bones, fast food wrappers, petrified french fries four and a half pair of mismatched gloves, empty Marlboro packs, four season wardrobe, and the rest of the shit they leave in the cab.And after I'm done I throw it all back in the cab. No one ever questioned the additional charge.

I usually make some guide studs to slide them in on. I agree there are some shady places that claim to rebuild parts. Was all that debris from the carrier assembly or was a axle bearing bad
@amos39047 жыл бұрын
That's a good ole RA47 rear they're notorious for sheering ring gear bolts off usually they have rivets on them that one was rebuilt cuz it had bolts on it. Most of the time people don't put enough loctite on them that's why they loosen off. That bearing you saw in the pot was the pocket bearing for the pinion. I used to work on these everyday for fleetpride until they decided to have transaxle do their gear work for them. Thx for all your videos an tips you have you're a pretty mechanic.
@westerntruckandtractorrepa13537 жыл бұрын
+amos 390 Yeah that's exactly right, it's a RA47 and it was a rebiult one that was in there. They got that from Fleetpride, the first and the second one. Hopefully this last a little longer. Thanks for watching

I love your videos. Lots of great advice on how to do jobs, and on staying away from dealers' service shops. I often wonder about these places that advertise "rebuilt" driveline components. I have seen some "rebuilt" transmissions with "all new bearings, seals, and input shafts" that have gears left in them so worn and pitted that they are an absolute disgrace. I notice you seem to be talking most of the time. Sometimes I do not know whether you are talking to the camera to describe what you are doing, or if you are just mumbling to yourself about the mess you are dealing with, LOL. I mumble a lot, but mostly not out loud, so passersby do not get to know how frustrated I am getting with my tasks. Pressure washing is a great way to clean equipment before working on it, but often getting rid of the runoff can be a real problem. If there is no catch pond or runoff area available, the crap may plug up a drain or pollute a ditch or waterway, then watch out for a complaint from the local authorities, or the hassle of cleaning out a drain. In many areas you have to have a settling pond or filtration system to deal with the runoff before you can pressure wash much stuff. If the machine is pressure washed at the customer's farm yard of shop, then the customer can deal with that part of the mess. Or, better yet, have the machine cleaned at a pressure washing shop, where they are set up to deal with the mess. Then there is always the danger that the pressure washer stream gets directed at the wrong component and electrical connections or some other sensitive bit gets water or dirt in it, then there is another problem. Mumble, mumble, mumble. Anyhow, keep up the good work, and keep the videos coming. I am always impressed at the range of jobs you handle.

It would be nice to call the owner and make him look at that mess then hand him the bill. I’ll bet there would be a new operator of the truck. I know things break but the condition of the truck tells me how the operator treats it.

I don't understand people who don't take care of their equipment, all that mud and crap looked like cement. When the guy first started having trouble he should have had it fixed, he was lucky the damage wasn't worse. That mirror had me laughing when you grabbed it, thought it was gonna fall off. I hope this turd never goes down a city, or country road, didn't see a plate on it, figured it stays on the farm, but some people have multiple places that require using public roads. God bless.

how about a steel I beam or square tube with a pair of harbor freight ATV winch on it. so you can slip the I beam or square tube over the frame rail. if the top hole of the carrier is threaded over the normal bolt size you can stick a stubby bolt and hook in it. or even better a perhaps a bent bar that goes thru the U joint yoke saddle.. and sticks thru the top hole .. this would allow you to winch the old one down and the new one up by your self.
