Long ago I practiced The South Beach Diet which was very popular here in The States. It was related to The Atkins Diet but not as strict with carbohydrates at least in it's second phase. Much of the sound Type 2 diabetes diets seem related in some degree to The South Beach Diet. One of the key points in The South Beach Diet is to not over eat portion size, and to accomplish that Fats are recommend to reduce appetite cravings. Also snacks between main meals within your carbohydrate allowance. One of my favorites was a Fudgesicle about two hours after the meal. I also make use of this diet principles now that I'm 71 and Type 2 diabetic. My A1C scores are below a 7. I do exercise mainly by brisk walking two miles a day and take medications. Not insulin however. I think your video was very useful and insightful. Thank you for posting.

Thank you for making this understandable. Sometimes, there is so much information you need to absorb that it can get confusing. However, you break it down in a type of point form information and explanation that makes it easier to understand and take out thr confusion. Plus tips on how to manage or watch for. I have subscribed and will be checking all your videos and going to your links

Wow brother. I'm super impressed. As a diabetic In remission, I can say you really know what your talking about except the bread. Brown bread and brown rice are just as bad as their white versions. They all spike my bloodsugar equally. You should know this if your instructing diabetics how to eat.

Appreciate the comment tony and well done for achieving remission. That’s awesome Re: bread and rice. It’s pretty well established that the lower GI carbs will raise glucose more slowly. I agree the overall carb load is the main contributing factor (the GL) so you’ll still get a spike if you’re prone to spikes eating that stuff regardless. But White and brown do not have exactly the same effect as you say. If you have documented evidence of that and captured over hundreds or thousands of people, then of course, some one like me would pay attention to that data - which is exactly what we do as healthcare pros - but if the evidence is anecdotal I.e. “I personally found this or that” - it’s not as valid. Not to say what you say isn’t correct for you per se, but when you look at large groups of people, changing from high to low GI will lower your HbA1c by about 8mmol/mol or just under 1% on average. Not to mention - anecdotally - consider I see an awful lot of glucose graphs as it’s my full time job, so I can get a pretty good feel of the difference between a brown or white for example and see it makes a difference typically for most people rather than just one or two people. Of course, brown can be misleading for some foods like bread as most brown bread is just white bread dyed brown. So there’s considerations on what type you’re having. Not that I know it all obviously, but I’ve seen enough and read enough to have confidence in this advice 👍 I think it’s fair to say the patient is the expert in their own care but the healthcare pro will have more experience across big groups as they see so much more data 👍

Might be a good video if you did one for prevention of Nighttime Hypo when would be best time to test and what to eat for slow steady instead of quick spike and going lower too quickly, so some foods we can eat so your normal in the morning. thanks
@diabetesdietguy
@diabetesdietguy 2 жыл бұрын
Hey bonnet Pretty much done this kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIDQoZuZit-moaM Best time to eat would be straight before bed if you’re having hypos so it lasts the longest amount of time However, if you’re eating to prop up glucose levels, it means too much insulin Video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIDQoZuZit-moaM In the type 1 diabetes section titled fixing overnight levels But can always record one specifically for hypos.

Just realised bonnet By watching the video you no doubt have type 2 diabetes However, the type 1 part is irrelevant I assume you’re on insulin so the same principles remain

@@diabetesdietguy I'm T2 struggling and going to try to reverse. I'm on full dose of Gliclazide. Lost half a Stone recently and wanting to loose another one and a half. Ive cut out Sugar now on Low Carb but recently I have had to take one tablet less in the morning or at night. Worried in case of Hypo's. Dont want to be going too far down especially overnight. Thanks 👍
@diabetesdietguy
@diabetesdietguy 2 жыл бұрын
@@bonnetnboot2128 ah got you So gliclazide basically makes your pancreas skirt out more insulin to accommodate high sugars from eating carbohydrates Now. If you aren’t eating or have gone low carb, this probably isn’t the right tablet anymore. And it should only be taken with food so just to clarify when you say at night - hopefully that’s not right before bed - if so - this is why ya going low! Better at dinner time. So well worth a discussion with ya doctor if you’re going low on it. As it’s over treating you currently if you’re going low Hope that helps

Yea that should be fine. Should be quite low carb but of course it always depends on what the manufacturer adds to them. But usually they should be ok.

Hi Iv'e just subscribed to your channel. My mom was diagnozed with type 2 diabetes. Would like to know what amount of sugar is she allowed to consume on a daily basis in grams? I do however give her sugar free rusks for bfast only 1.2 gm of sugar..all her treats are sugar free. Iv'e taken her off milk and put her on almond milk. I do let her eat bfast, lunch and supper and every 2 or 3 hours a snack like a green apple. Would appreciate your reply.

Hi Yvette. I suspect guidance will vary country to country. In the UK we advise no more than 30g of free sugars. But really it’s more about total carb intake. As lots of snacks can be low sugar but high carb - which still effects blood sugar levels. Like low sugar sweets for example. This doesn’t mean carbs are bad, but it does mean if you have t2dm you have a problem absorbing carbs which is when high sugar levels occur. But it’s also all relative to what they are doing day to day like exercise, body weight, total amount of carbs in the diet, how their blood glucose control is and what meds they take for this etc.so it’s hard to give general advice. The total carb guidelines in the Uk are to limit carbs to about 150g per day. The big carb hitters are starch and free sugars (chocolate cake sweets etc). Hope that helps a bit

I have had type two for 10 years. Your mom's allowed absolutely zero sugar brother. No bread rice or potatoes. No added sugar, reduce saturated fat. Fiber and protein are her friend. Green leafy veg, lean meat, coniferous veg. Keep it to that.

💥 Type 2 diabetes is caused basically by a high carb diet. With time, the body develops insulin resistance, and glucose can't enter the cells, and build up, causing all kinds of problems of diabetes. You need to end insulin resistance, by not ingesting carbohydrates, or keeping it to a minimal. While glucose levels are at the minimal, forces the body to run on ketones, which is a secondary path for the body to get energy, derived from fat and protein, that's why a ketogenic diet is good for type 2 diabetes. As time passes by, the body gradually reverses insulin resistance. But a wise person should never engage on a high carb diet again. ❤

Hi Dihelson Thanks for the comment But what you say isn’t accurate High carb diet doesn’t cause diabetes at all. Poor overall lifestyle and being overweight causes type 2 diabetes for the majority of people. In fact, the evidence is very clear. If you choose the right type of carbs and follow a general Mediterranean style diet the incidents of type 2 diabetes go down - basically every study looking at this shows this time and time and time again.
