If it s a recesive gene then it s just less likely to appear, for instance blonde hair, blue eyes etc, they have 25% chance of appearing in a child that has one parent with them and another parent with brown eyes and brown hair. I think their mastery of regular ssj has gotten to the point where the other grades wouldn't really be relevant at this point. Tbh ssb became the new ssj for dbs in effect it was the goto transformation for any new fighter they came up against until jiren. Notice how the tension in dbs broly was that ssb wasn't enough after he became ssj? They jumped straight to fusion. Though that's partly because of being a movie and for the purpose of hype but still.

It was dropped back in the Buu Saga. Super didn't start it. Once Super Saiyan 2 was achieved, the grades became irrelevant. And thus, was dropped in Buu Saga. Remember when Goku went through the forms. He didn't show off the grades. He just went, "This is Super Saiyan. This is Super Saiyan 2. And this is RRRRRAAAAAAAAA....." Goku completely skipped the grades like it didn't exist. So it was dropped back in the Buu Saga.

Toriyama never wrote any of the OAV, not even Bardock or Story of Trunks. Takao Koyama wrote/created all those. So no wonder he forgot about Broly since he didn’t create him. I think Vegeta would had fallen in love with Launch instead of Bulma if Launch was around. Vegeta would be like, "What?... A human that can turn Super Saiyan?" and be intrigued with her. Toriyama forgetting is understandable. Back when I was writing fanfic, I remember things form my story. And forget too. But I could always trace back pages to what I forgot to keep it consistent. But once I stopped writing, nope, I can't remember and it's a hassle to dig through all those information from it. Toriyama had like hundreds of pages to dig through for information. I only had like a few pages and I already found it a hassle to dig through them. Even during when Toriyama was working on Dragonball, he probably felt it was a hassle to dig back through all those pages to keep things consistent and he probably didn't have time for it. Unlike us, Toriyama probably doesn't watch or read his own stories that he writes. We watch it over and over like more than a hundred time. So those information is pounded into our heads. Toriyama just went through it once. So it's understandable that he forgets.

the reason for goten and trunks not having a tail is because as u said its a recessive gene BUT only for hybrid saiyans meaning hybrids have a low chance of being born with the tail, gohan was just lucky as hell

Actually blackscape I got to call you wrong on that one. First generation half bread Saiyans can have tails as seen with Gohan because his father is a full-bred Saiyan making the gene transfer 50/50. Second generation half breed saiyans cannot have tails because they are Born from an already half breed saiyan generation like Pan because her father is Gohan making the gene trait 33/100. Trunks and Goten should definitely have tails since their first generation half breeds like Gohan. There's no mistaking it. This is just another one of toriyama's inconsistencies in story writing showing even after his death 🤦🏿. R.I.P. The goat though 🤷🏿.
